Slow day at work so here´s my 2 cents on United
I don't know what's going on with Amorim, honestly. The man is a great coach, but there's clearly something not working there, he is a shadow of what he used to be, and I fear that, like many others, he will end up being fired halfway through the season.
The attitude he sometimes has during matches doesn't help either; like when he lowered his head at Fulham while Bruno was about to take the penalty or during corners, it just shows that he doesn't believe in the team.
I've thought that Amorim might be a one-hit wonder and that what he achieved at Sporting was just a beginner's luck, and that he discovered Gyökeres, who is starting to score in the English league,
but I want to believe that it's not true because the work he did at sporting was really really good (and im a benfica supporter) and you cant be a one trick pony doing what he did at sporting. so something else must be going on...
He should never have gone at the middle of last season, but it was a requirement from United at the time.(i dont know if many United fans know this but its the truth, he never wanted to come in the middle of the season , only in the beginning of this one) I understand the cleaning of the squad to start this season, and it was much needed, but either he makes some changes to his system or he'll end up like all the others.
I also think he should be given a clean slate, but of course, that won't happen. Fans have no patience these days.
The team is better than last season, but it has giant gaps in midfield and in goal mainly (every set piece, corner or foul near the area was just laughable regarding the goalkeeper's position during the Fulham game) and especially in matches against lower-ranked teams in the PL, he always struggles; usually, against the top 5, they always perform well, it was the same last season.
The sale of Bruno is a significant amount (rumored to be 100M) and perhaps it would be enough to bring Hjulmund from Sporting, to be fair, I really like Bruno Fernandes and last season he was decisive, but at the moment for his position
you have Cunha and Mbeumo (both signings this season) and it's clear that Bruno doesn't perform at all in midfield, especially with Casemiro being far from the Casemiro of a few years ago and an Ugarte who always messes up whenever he comes on. you have Mainoo who is still young, I don't understand why Amorim doesn't bet on him.
Back to Bruno, as captain you can't have tantrums like he had regarding the penalty from there, the whole team fell apart, and then you come to the flash interview saying that the referee was to blame for your lack of focus.
I understand that Sesko is not a starter yet, but when he came on, the ball didn't reach him either. You could have Ronaldo or Messi as strikers, but if the ball doesn't reach them, they can't score either and I think the same applies to Hjlund, who I also think its a good player but just doesnt get the balls
Let's see if things straighten out, but it's not looking easy at all.
