The story makes sense. If Madrid are sure Ronaldo won't sign a new contract, they most likely wouldn't risk selling him with only a year left on his contract, where they'll most likely be forced to sell at a lower price.
For United, I doubt we would have gone in for him unless there was financial backing from other companies like Chevy and Nike. It benefits all parties to make the deal happen this summer. Madrid buy Bale and it'll lessen the impact (they hope) on Ronnies departure.

I hate the usage of 'overrated'. Oddly though I don't mind 'underrated'.
They weren't that great in what they were supposed to accomplish true but they had everything I mentioned above, especially the speed and power. Now if he had just scored on most of them...
edit: let's not also forget his running speed. Guy was insane when it came to it, I still remember when he'd go up and take a free kick and then run back like a mad man to his position :lol. Seriously you won't find many left backs who were as offensive in their play as him, at least not at his quality.

Since when in history does that happen? I honestly think Bale won't ever reach the same level as Ronaldo. Another player, 10/15 years down the line will though.
He has the confidence of the majority of madrid men, only here and certain areas does he lack support. It matters not. Benzema has the confidence of Carlo and Zidane, and that's all that really matters. You will see the light soon enough. Or maybe never. Oh well.
