We really do need at least one quality CB. Any fan of the club knows that there will without fail be a few defensive injuries at the same time - this is bad enough when you're playing a formation which only employs 2 centre backs, but stretched to breaking point if we're going ahead with 3.

It's maybe not quite as horrendous now our 2 most injury prone defenders have left, but there really does need to be investment to prevent a potential disaster.

It hurts but I'd eventually come to terms with Shinji leaving if it allowed Hummels to come the other way. I'm not sure which other defenders I really want, it's most likely we'll end up with someone from the Dutch squad which is still an acceptable option at this point.

There is a defender where a chance exists and it is Benatia

Then there is a chance with Blind

I don't actually expect it in any way, Shinji and a big boat of money would be the only way I can see them being remotely tempted. It's nice to want things.

Its not easy to sign good players when you don't have any CL football to offer.

Ask Tottenham.

Funny about Zaha. And Man United fans were saying he was going to be better than Walcott... Guess we will just have to say this is Moyes' fault.

Some United fans will defend a piece of turd if it was bought by United. Some of us on here already knew Zaha was shit before he was even signed.





Januzaj is nailed on for the #11 shirt. It's not a coincidence that he replaced Giggs in the kit reveal ad.

But who can they sign that will really improve them without paying stupid money/wages?

The risk is even bigger now that they don't have CL football. If they spend big and fail to secure a CL spot once again then where will that leave them?

I think its better to gamble with what they have now, focus on the league and get a CL spot (like Liverpool did last season) and then build from there. If they gamble the other way and throw lots of money around then they run the risk of destabilising the long term future of the club from a financial standpoint.

I'm sure that Adidas deal has various clauses related to securing CL football.

Lets not forget that Fergie won the league with 80% of the players in that team now. LVG is a similar type of manager wherein he sets his teams up so that the system is greater than the sum of its parts.

It has a substantial clause that kicks in after a few years of non-Champions League football.

Wouldn't put it past Woodward to panic if it was approaching and splurge on the wrong players.

I dunno what De Jongs wages are but he'd definitely improve the squad.

Don't think Blind would be all too expensive either, but I know less about his situation.

United will turn over £100m profit soon.

Wage:turnover ratio is still one of the lowest in Europe.

They can easily afford a few big risks. Like £100m worth of risk, easily.

A player like De Jong would represent a short term fix. His wages will be high and he is a player on the decline. Man United fans should trust LVG when it comes to his assessment of Dutch players for obvious reasons. If he is not signing someone who he has worked with from the Dutch NT then there will be a good reason for it. The guy clearly isn't stupid, this isn't Moyes anymore.
