For those that seen Tenet...... do you rate it below or above Inception

I haven't seen it yet but inception really was too good for it's own good it got meme'd to hell and is too mainstream now, to praise it feels too normie. when it was because nolan executed the film in such an incredible manner that it made the film effortless to watch.

They are too different. (Possible light spoilers)

if anything the concept in tenet (the core sci fi driver and Nolan’s mystery box) is much harder to get your head around. Than populating dreams with other people and seeing what happens when you go further into other dreams (And what happens with the nature of time, when you do)

But as movies. I felt more satisfied with inception when it was done. With tenet, it felt like we were just getting started and that this was the first film in a series.

Perhaps that meant I was content with the story inception told (the end of cobbs journey), but with tenet I wanted more or to see the protagonist’s story play out (the start)

I thought some of the roles could have crossed movies (Jgl could have been Neil, Eaves & ives, etc ..... but that might just be from Nolan’s writing)

both Awesome movies, with inception being slightly more cinematic in its imagery and as a spectacle

my 2 cents 😎

what was the reason

Well, I don't want to spoil anyone, but I think the plot is relatively light and sometimes predictable.
Even when the reveal scene is unsurprising. The action scenes are still incredible, though.
Inception is something else, even post-movie, there is still a lot of things that can be discussed.

tenet gimmick is a bit too silly even compared multiple layers of ever deepening dreams

i mean bad guys coming after u in a car that is driving backwards is treated super serious but looks goofy

I can't see Joseph Gordon-Levitt without seeing Third Rock From The Sun. It ruined inception for me.
You’re just mad that he makes you feel confused now

Interesting concept but it was missing something which I can’t put my finger on

if I was to take a stab I think it tried to be too clever and ends up confusing your audience...I’m a great sci-fi and Nolan fan but the concept Itself has so many holes and Nolan movies have always been semi based on reality....the premise then becomes more of a gimmick

Great cast and acted very well but that never saves a bad story...it needed to be more contained.....would people not notice a boat travelling backwards???

Way below. It's the only Nolan movie I've seen that was bad.
Inception was 3.5/5 and 4/5 at best, Tenet was 1.5/5 and 2/5 at best.

Below.

- I don't even think Nolan understands what his movie is about
- Too much of the story involves a family and an abusive husband. Think about this: you have a cool idea but you don't focus on it, you're told to not think about it, but you're forced to watch this family and be a main focal point

It was still okay.

Above. I found the breakneck pace of Tenet exhilarating. The music was bangin also. A uniquely brilliant experience at the cinema.

Didn't even think Inception was the second coming. But I appreciate it more now after Tenet.

Below, but I still really liked it.

I genuinely don't know yet. A second viewing of Inception was recommended, whereas a second viewing of Tenet is mandatory.
Grasping every concept of this movie a lot harder than in Inception.

And of course it hopefully looks like the beginning of a series, which means we only got one piece of the puzzle, so trying to rate it or putting it above or below Nolan's previous works is a moot point right now.

Somewhere around the same level

1. Interstellar
2. TENET/Inception
3. TDK/TDKR
4. Dunkirk
5. The Prestige
6. Batman Begins
7. Memento
8. Insomnia
9. Following

Off-topic but Nolan isn't really a great director, is he? That's a good list but nothing really special (I haven't seen Tenet or Following but I don't think my opinion will change).

I'd say at the same level as Inception. And Inception is one of my favorite movies. Maybe Tenet is slightly above because of the novelty factor.

Below but that could be because I couldn't hear a lot of a dialogue in Tenet.

I have the unpopular opinion that Memento and The Prestige are both better than Inception though so 🤷‍♂️

Agreed. It was too big of a concept for a cinema movie, should have been a short series. It just went too fast, and there was no motivation everyone just went with the flow of everything. Zero character development.

I can't believe you guys are actually advocating for a series there's no series in existence that has action scenes like this that is this big this cinematic and this expensive. You would lessen the film just to have slightly deeper characters and more expository dialogue. I'm going to give you guys a wake up call on this but not everyone watches movies for characters some of us just need the characters to be fine in the same sense some of you don't care if the plot is stupid in almost every action film that's come out in the past 10 years especially including MCU.

I just watched Inception again last night and I do think a lot of it is very contrived.

I think Tenet and its action sequences bang harder than Inception, although I only have one Dolby theater experience with it, maybe it will be different at home. I'm going for Tenet for now though.

think your going off the deep end a bit there dude !!! You alright ?

I meant series of movies, for reasons that I won’t spoil, but the film could easily go in several different directions. Should they make a sequel, or ‘connected universe’.

if you have seen the move, you see it isn’t really about the characters or personalities they have, bring or become. This movie is totally obsessed with the Maguffin and how that functions (anything else would probably have just added to the mental madness 😂)

the protagonist up until the part in the car at the end, is practically a confused audience surrogate.

i actually think a spy type movie, generally, is filled with people who by definition of being spy types. are trying to not show personality, motivations or stand out traits. Wouldn’t that be giving the game away for the or jobs ?

If the movie is about the MacGuffin then it's not a Macguffin. The entire idea behind a MacGuffin is that you could swap it out with anything else and the film doesn't change

Below. I could hear what people were saying in Inception and follow the plot. Tenet not so much. Plus too tall woman was super distracting towering over everyone like they were midgets.

Could have been a first, there always needs to be a first. I would lessen the non stop action to get a bit more coherence and logic, yes - this would have made the work much better. I doubt Nolan was going for a silly action movie, just had to settle on it in montage given cinema time constraints.
