For those who refuse to game on a PC, what holds you back?

I know a lot of the general arguments in the past was that people would say they wanted to just load a game and go, or that they wanted to sit comfy on their couch... And it's now hopefully known that all those things are and have always been easily achievable via Pc gaming, but even more so now a days.

For me I personally am not like typical Pc users who condemn anyone who doesn't, but I look at it from a standpoint that people want prettier games, and with a Pc you really can have yourself some mind blowing experiences.

Not that I don't game on my ps4, but I wouldn't be without my Pc gaming as you really can take the hobby to another level.

Anyways just curious if folks still believe Pc gaming isn't as easy to fire games like a console. Or if there are other reasons I'd be curious to hear.

Because it is 100% impossible to connect a PC to a television in this day and age.

Once upon a time I didn't use a PC for gaming as I couldn't separate my actual work from gaming. I still have a bit of a problem but that is a mindset thing. I now play 99% of games on PC and have little-to-no interest in consoles.
 
Money.

I love PC games (the total war and starcraft series) but money holds me back. My 4 year old PC has to suffice which means I can't play the latest total war games (warhammer and atilla) but I hope in a few years I might be able to upgrade.

First quote, yeah graphics are awesome but Im fine with PS4 Pro graphics and Xbox Ones so meh whatever.

Second quote, is probably my biggest reason. Its just more comfortable for me, to play with a controller and not to sit at a desk. I sit at a desk for most of the day, I dont want to go home and sit all day at another desk so more. You can connect a PC to a TV sure, but Id still be using a controller. Logistically, in my case, using a KB/M where my TV is at wont work.

I had a gaming laptop which has since broke and I barely used it and when I did it was to play football manager. The games I did play I ended up using a controller anyways.
 
I just don't know where to begin really. I have no idea which graphics card or motherboard or anything is better than the other, I don't understand the metrics they use to measure the capabilities of each, and I don't know how to put it together, upgrade specific parts, nor really want to find out with stuff that costs so much money. If I got a gaming PC, I'd want a good one, which means a lot of money off the bat.

I could do plenty of research and find out which parts are the best, save my money and pay a little extra to get it built for me, and then set up bluetooth and connect my Xbox or PlayStation controller so that I can game from my couch.

Or I could just play on console.
 
- Price of PC's (i know in USA you can get a good price but in my country they are very expensive).

- I move a lot (different countries) so its much easier to bring PS4 around than a full PC tower.

- I like the ps4 exclusives.
 
I do game on a PC, but far less than on consoles. Main reasons are exclusives and almost all of my friends are on console. They look nicer under the telly as well.
 
I play on a PC and i sit on the couch with my 360 controller and i almost never play on my desk anymore.

Heck, i don't even need to touch the keyboard to change games or close the PC.

You guys don't know what you are talking about. It's not 1998.

Yet this is true for me as a PC gamer - I spent 2012 mid 2016 using the same mid-range laptop. By the end I was still playing some of the latest games with low & medium presets without issue.

That flexibility to do that with different form factors and still benefit from the same games being massively improved on better hardware is a hugely important to me.

You'd just use a controller, not a KB/M with most games. It's what I do. Add that with Steam Big Picture Mode and it is unbelievably simple to do.

Does that really still happen to a lot of people? I really haven't had any installation problems for ages. And drivers, yes, sometimes Nvidia or AMD fuck things up which can mess up your games, but they're (usually) fixed fairly fast with hotfixes etc.

And you don't just insert a disc and play on consoles anymore, maybe with Nintendo. With Sony and MS you still have to install the entire game and have huge (day one) patches. And publishers also releases patches which fuck up some games. Consoles are becoming more and more like PC's.
 
-Working on a PC for a decent amount of life
-Comfier/more convenient to play on a console
-Enough enjoyable console exclusives meaning that they'd need to buy a console anyway
-Physical games providing a greater sense of ownership and the ability to resell/lend games
-Less chance of a game not working, without it being well-known about
-Only need to upgrade once every 3+ years regardless of technical advances
-Don't care for graphics enough for the more powerful hardware of a PC to make a difference
-Not technically capable of what a PC requires of a person to play games on it.

There's numerous reasons as to why people play on consoles an they're not all valid all of the time, but most people that do so are probably choosing consoles because a great enough number of these apply to them that it suits their life situation better.

PC is absolutely the superior system in a vacuum, but most people have individual circumstances which add up to make it less appealing.

There are more exclusives on PC than the entire library of ps1,2 and 3 combined. There are entire genres that arent on consoles, with entire histories, hyped games, surprise releases and big dissapointments.

I can assure you there are heaps of games that could interest you, but since you dont game on PC, how would you know ?
 
My reasons :

1. Most are on console controller (COD controller vs mouse does not mix well)

2. Parity for online (that guy with 144 Hz monitor, his nose to the monitor clicking dem pixels)

3. Cheats - yes, its easier to cheat or mod on PC, or even advantages (FOV, frame rate etc). Mods benefit single player though

4. Games play different (on PC COD, snipers rule, on console no aim assist matters more)

5. Friends lists and party chat etc

We have 2 Ps4 pro (and 2 old Ps4 lol) and me and son (13) game together coop. Ps4 is much better proposition for this. Also 2 x Pro is not as expensive as 2 x rigs.

I have been considering a rig for PC solo games where controllers are supported than run like shit on console, but that would be it. Also undecided on VR and whether PSVR or VIVE + Rig.

And yes, UK prices for PC is not USA, it is very expensive
 
Not portable. Being chained to a screen in my house feels archaic and limiting to me these days. Obviously I feel the same way about home consoles, and it's mainly down to a mix of a long commute and a young family changing the way I interact with media.
 
I game a bit on PC(nothing intensive just a handful of indies) but whenever I do I never feel completely at ease like I do when I game on my handhelds or my PS4. I think that's related to spending all day at work on a computer and not wanting to do that when I get home to play video games. I game on PC is short bursts and then have to get off whereras consoles I can going for hours.

Not to mention graphics mean little to me so trying to tell how much better or prettier PC's pixels are literally means nothing to me. I also heavily dislike gaming on a mouse and keyboard.

Not to mention regardless of what the loyalist will tell you PC very much has a higher barrier of entry to console and that is honestly enough to keep me away. Not to mention I like being able to sell my physical games later.
 
I have an ok PC rig but I always find myself playing more on console simply because all my good friends play on there. So I guess you can say I'm kinda "locked" into their ecosystem
 
Cost, convenience, controls, lack of japanese games and lack of interest in PC genres like MOBAs, FPSs and online competitive games in general. Plus I value style over graphics. Wind Waker will always look a hundred times prettier than Battlefield One in my eyes.

I do play old games and indie games occasionally on my laptop and I go back to WoW every once in a while since it can run on anything. I don't have a stance against PC gaming, it just doesn't suit my tastes as a gamer. I'm much happier with my Sony / Nintendo combo.
 
I sometimes run a cable from my pc to the tv and play a game but, a part from the hassle (which may be minor), the controller setup is really annoying me as I cannot get a constant connection with my pc and I usually have to daisy-chain usb chord extenders to get to a usb port.
And no, I cannot move that PC because I use it for photo editing and for office stuff.

My main reason tough is power. The trade off is not worthy for me. Every PC I'll ever build will only rival in power a PS4 (or contemporary equivalent), so it's only natural for me to stick to a closed system where games are optimized for a set platform. I can the advantage if you spent some money on significantly more powerful machine.
 
As someone who has gone back and forth between PC gaming and console gaming over the years, I must say that I don't enjoy "maintaining a PC" because it tends to become a hobby on top of another hobby (gaming) which I don't wanna deal with, given how much time I already spent *playing* video games. And I don't mean that it's too hard to do so, but it's just something that doesn't appeal to me anymore. Also never been one for super high-end graphics, so I'm perfectly fine with what current consoles are capable of putting out (although the frame rate could be better sometimes, thank you)

It's funny. I have a gaming rig with a super comfy chair where I can play but I find myself not playing there or even on the TV, but with my ultra portable laptop which has a very capable gpu - on my lap. Makes the 13" screen look huge by portable console standards, and in terms of perspective it's larger than a 50" lcd teen feet away.

Plus, it's 3200x1800. I play my games at 1600x900 but due to the pixel density I don't even need antialiasing - you simply can't notice jaggies on a screen that small.

What's best, I can play it anywhere,but nothing better than sitting on my comfy sofa with my feet propped up on the Ottoman.

That I can easily play on the tube and carry to work? Not very likely. I much prefer smaller devices.

If I only used a train where I could guarantee getting a table for an hour every day I might think about it as I like strategy games, but I do a lot of standing up and changing trains. To be honest if I could get a table most days I'd probably chip away at my work instead.
 
I have a PC and even I agree that PC gaming isn't as easy as console gaming, I spend a considerable amount of time setting up my games settings and fixing bollocks stuff.

It took me a couple of hours getting fallout 4 to play nice with my 21:9 monitor, stopping the weird frame rate halving bug and UI issues.
 
Besides overwatch, I don't play on the PC much except for occasional games here and there. Not everyone lives in the USA, the Japanese steam sucks.
Plus the lack Atlus and Naughty Dog for me.
 
The social aspect to it as well as sitting on the couch.

I watch my brother play on PC sometimes and it's too "claustrophobic" for me. Seems way too complicated too with parts, RAM, CPU and whatever else gets mentioned in threads on GAF.

I like picking up the controller and chilling on the couch and blowing some shit up.
 
Maybe this thread isn't for me as I am PC gamer exclusively, but still I will just say that on PC you can do so much more than on console including emulating any retro console games.
 
No matter how much detail I can go into, the straight forward answer is that I find PC gaming uncomfortable. I have tried it before and played some of the best games I ever played on PC, but I prefer the experience of a console and have put PC down indefinitely. I am not against PC gaming, I just don't enjoy it myself.

this only applies to people who refuse to game on Pc and will quit gaming than to try it

i may be wrong, but seeing the answers in this thread, my hasty generalization fits right in

For £ 300 switch, the alternative of a gaming laptop with a Ps4 controller and steam is looking attractive - you can get borderlands and such games on steam for peanuts and use your existing controllers.

If Switch was not looking like £ 600 for console + controller + online + 5 or 6 games then we would talk, and the moment its just Nintendo like profits and far too much for what it is.
