Former FFXI players, you may want to consider logging on

Not a chance. I gave that game 5 years of my life and I'm never going back. You can't go home again.
It's not so much about going home, I'd just want to grab the rank 1 prize. Maybe play with it a bit, and then log off again. In fact, that's my plan.

For 99.9% of the players, the rank 1 Bonanza weapons have been a pie in the sky pipedream.

I'm not familiar with it. Must have been after I left. That's cool though for those playing. What's the WHM one?

Ah yeah, it looks like the first Bonanza may have been in 2012. Here's the WHM one:

For Mog Bonanza, typically only a few people from all the servers win the rank 1 prize each year, and the weapons that you can get are quite busted, especially the NIN one.

Nope. It if isn't a remake or remaster I've put that pipe down.

Best game I ever played but that time has come and pass.

Which ones are good?
Yagyu is probably the most busted. It applies the effect of Utsusemi to everyone in your group. I'm not too sure outside of that, doing research myself.

Ugh I'll do it but just thinking about the install process is giving me a headache. Also have to install Windower again I guess
It's a pain to get through PlayOnline still, but if you have any questions, I'll be happy to help. I logged back on for the first time tonight as well.

This might have been my favorite MMO over Guild Wars years ago if it wasn't for the unnecessarily arduous login process.

Is it still like that?

Eh yeah. Account management has been migrated to the Square Enix website, but logging in still goes through PlayOnline.

They mentioned the game's spaghetti code relies on it in ways that would be impossible to remove it entirely lol.

But you're interested enough to come do a drive-by shitpost in here apparently.
Not sure why you're raging at my opinion. I saw a post related to a game i tried and didn't like at all, and left my opinion about it. Are you always offended when someone isn't positive about your favorite game?

Damn... that's actually a compelling reason to log in again. I tried it again after Trusts came out, but all the soul of the game was long gone by that point.

I always wished that mobile port was true and actually relelased.

Anyways, what the hell, might as well.

*edit*

Did they improve the login/update method yet, or are we still locked behind the hell that is Playonline?

I might have to log back in for this just to check it out. Although, the sad thing is I never got to Level 99...i stopped playing shortly after the level cap went higher than 75. I still love that game so much in my heart, but it also just feels like something I can never go back to.

Not raging, I just don't understand the logic of coming into a topic to shitpost if said topic doesn't interest you. If it doesn't interest you, why waste time coming in to the thread to tell us that and to diss something you obviously know nothing about? Wouldn't your time be better spent posting in threads that do interest you and where you're familiar with the subject matter?

Surprisingly, I had PlayOnline and FFXI already installed. I must have thought about booting it up again recently.

God damn, even this PlayOnline music and interface makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Oh man, I had almost forgotten about the trees with boobs :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Edit: I'm starting to feel indecisive about what to actually pick now that I've logged back in for a free goodie. I haven't played this game actively in over a decade, and I've always thought about returning but have always been unsure how to approach the game now. I decided to login since it was free to get one of those free goodies, but I have no clue since none of my jobs are 99, and these are all 99 gear it seems. The last time I played, jobs were just starting to be increased from 75.

So as it stands, my highest job levels are Thief 75, Dragoon 75, White Mage 65, Red Mage 64, and nothing higher than 40 after that. A lot of level 37 jobs because that was subjob level for a long time.

Can I just say that PlayOnline is one of the worst pieces of software ever created by mankind? It's so bad, it easily could've come out of Silicon Valley.

Yeah, it's a launcher mainly. Was a bit more than that back then (and also intended to be more than that originally). It was basically intended to be an online platform. But that never panned out.

Yes, some give their opinion about games they dislike, or don't intend to play. Imagine that.

Yep still locked behind PlayOnline.

It's totally different now, but it also seems to be the easiest it's ever been to do things solo. Suppose it'd be a good way of playing the game casually now.

Also, just posted:

The race change thing is crazy. They also posted additional details on their 2025+ roadmap: http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics/ff11us/detail/22548/detail.html

Returned to the game last year and made not one friend. If I want to devote some time to a social game, it's Blue Burst these days.

This is not a reason to jump back into a dead game. One I played countless hours on a PS2 a long time ago. Maybe one day they will get back to the remake!

You're not going to last long around here. People get banned for shitposting all the time.

Yep still locked behind PlayOnline.
It was an antiquated way of updating the game like 5 years into its lifecycle, but it doesn't surprise me at all that they're still using it lol.

As I went to download the client, I noticed it's still in a 5 part .rar download. Too fucking funny.

Man, memories came flooding back as I was looking at that early 2000's website (the official one).

Definitely, they tried to make Steam before Steam was a thing, but missed the mark. The game itself is dependent on PlayOnline, so while they can never get rid of it entirely, I do appreciate that they've extracted the account management and download/installation portions to outside the client.

A small part of me is glad that we still have to log in through PlayOnline lmao, that music is nostalgic as fuck.

Yes it is.

They're giving away dream weapons that 99.99% of people will never be able to get again, and they're doing it during a free login campaign. It'd cost nothing but an afternoon to grab one.
…and what would someone do with that weapon? Nothing, the game is dead which is why they're just giving this away at this point. What point is there to having a weapon everyone can get, in a game an MMO that few to no people play?

Unfortunately the time of FFXI, a once incredible game 20 years ago, has come and gone.

Hopefully someday we'll see a remake of the OG.
