The fan fiction part of me wishes
the occupation
and
the Pegasus/Cane or is Kane arc
were longer and more central as both were highly compelling plotlines and what followed after both to me wasn't as compelling.

Thinking back, I wouldn't have minded more "filler" if by "filler" we mean maybe some more of that "oh the Galactica needs some more phloogenflagen derpity-doo in order to remain operable because the transfluxtoponodometer's on the fritz" leading to more sweet fancy space battles which this show does so goddamn well.

Of course, "filler" has generally come to mean "Chief Tyrol organizes a labor union" retardation. So... ugh.

Well, just finished all of season 2.5.

I'm really confused as to what to make of this show.

The line separating the good guys from the bad guys was clear in the beginning, but at some point in started getting blurry and chaotic. They're trying to portray the tall, blonde Cylon as a "war hero" and a compassionate entity, hoping viewers would forget that
she callously snapped the neck of a baby in the start of the first season.

Eh, she was on the verge of tears after she killed the baby. I thought it was generally accepted she did that out of mercy, as it was either that or the baby would die in the coming apocalypse.

No. The only thing that becomes clearer is that it's somehow easy to randomly find shit in the vastness of our galaxy and that the Cylons have to idea what the fuck they're doing.

It seems that they don't.

They had such a simple plan: find and destroy the humans. They used to do things so efficiently and diabolically --- with a clear purpose in mind. Now that purpose isn't so clear any more and it's frustrating for me.

I don't mind Chief Tyrol organizes a labor union, if it's brought up or hinted at that such problems exist prior or if it has some consequence later. The problem with some of these episodes is that the problem doesn't exist until it needs to for an episode which is the Trek problem.

Although why do a have a feeling that of all the filler episodes to complain about, you would pick a labor union one ;)

I suppose I could talk about the one where they bothered arguing about abortion when the species was down to under 50k and in the very first episode you had the President explicitly talking about how important is was for people to start making babies. :lol

God, there were some useless and absurd episodes in the name of being political / topical.

I didn't much care for the "See, Apollo's not a boy scout, watch him fuck this whore and shoot a druglord" either.

As a general rule, the political/topical episodes I generally like, although I'm open to someone not liking them although its always been clear Ron Moore has wanted to address these issues and I think some of the fandom tunes in for it. I do at least.

Most of my personal issues come with having to fill 20 episodes seasons which requires tight plotting when telling a serial. Something BSG has not always been exceptional on past Season one. I think some of it isn't their fault because I think the Sci-Fi channel puts on a little pressure for the show not to be as dense as possible because they were always trying to get people to be able to step in to viewing to boost ratings.

EDIT: My problem with things like the Drug lord episode is not so much that I don't like an episode like that in theory, it's more like it doesn't feel like BSG. It feels like a different show which is alright but not in the BSG universe. Also it's another instance of where that whole thing came up just to create a situation and then is never referenced again. Trek literally has hundreds of episodes like this (even decent to very good ones) so I always feel a little guilty complaining about it but I just expect more out of BSG.
