Formula Fusion (futuristic racer by former Wipeout devs) Kickstarter is up

There's more than one reason why this wouldn't work, lol.
Blame Interstellar, it's all about time paradoxes now!

But the point remains: Sony had no problem making Wipeout after F-Zero, and Koei no problem making Fatal Inertia after that.

And don't forget EA had no problems putting out Hi-Octane... and if you were gonna stop one of these games existing, that was the one....

Just me or does it look really slow? Anyway, 20 pounds is way to much for me to be able to pay just to get the steam early access version. Hope it does well though.

The game looks great, I'm glad the ships look more like WipEout ships now and properly bank when turning.
I hope there will be a first person view (just the simple classic one, though the VR add-on would be great) and that I will be able to use my neGcon controller connected to the PC with it.

The backing rewards look okay now, I wish there was a way to exactly combine the things you want as a reward, like: Physical game, soundtrack, poster and art-book or any other combination.

EDIT: And WipEout 2097/XL style air-breaks where they turn your ship before you enter a turn would be really great, as well as a pure mode without barrel-rolls and side-shifts. And don't forget the speed-laps!

I've pledged but I'll only be handing over my money if there's a PS4 version, if not I'll just withdrawal my support.

I'm trying to be positive but I just don't see this ever being released unless Sony get exclusive rights as I can't see it being anything other than a copyright infringement of the Wipeout brand from top to bottom, it's like they're going out of their way to be Wipeout and there's no way in hell Sony would give up that without a very good reason.

But .. but ... didn't Sony dismantled Studio Liverpool? I think that that means they have zero interest in the brand. Also, Sony doesn't have the rights to the "antigravity racing genre", because if they had, they need to take the broom and take a visit to the mobile stores

Although I've already covered what you mention about it being a futuristic racer I'm not really understanding your comment about Sony not being interested in the brand?

i've just asked them if i pledge £30 and they then reach their stretch goal, if they'll offer platform options. becasue i dont want a PC key. i just want the PS4 version.

R8 Games Ltd says:

Hi Anthony
You’re hiding in the office aren’t you? We’ve just been discussing that.
We’re doing a big massive update in about 2 hours which includes that point.

So short answer: Yes if you buy the game but want it for Console instead of PC we’ll give you that key instead

Cheers
R8Team

there you go. now i can safely pledge...well...assuming it reaches the stretch goal for consoles.

My big problem with this Kickstarter is that the tiers are dumb. There's a separate £20 tier for the game, and the next tier that includes the game is £60. All the other sub-£60 tiers don't include the game. It's a baffling decision.

Going to pledge with hopes for the console edition, I wish they swapped the Mac and console tiers (something tells me there's more people interested in the console version than in the Mac....) :)!!

i think that's a mistake. the £35 tier includes the game too. but the £150 tier doesnt (the Q&A rectifies the mistake and says it does)

they just messed up i think. i think everything including and after £20 includes the game.

Not for the addons, iirc.

That confusion is getting cleared up this afternoon in a big update we’re doing.
Long story short if it doesnt include the game its an addon pack for people to buy in addition to the game for more content on release.

If anyone has any questions about it they’re more than free to contact us and we’ll resolve any problems that arise but we’re fairly confident that this update will make things a lot clearer.

they're clearing everything up later.

Backing this as soon as I'm back from my holiday. Love the look and feel of this! Cool to see DR involved.

So this finally hit it's funding goal. It looks like it's on track to at least hit their first stretch goal as well, which is nice.

Happy to see we'll be getting another future racer, one way or another.

They've lowered the console goal to 100k £, that's great though I can't see it getting there at this pace :/

edit: I think they've also changed something about the baseline? Now the 35k base goal, which has been reached, should guarantee at least the game with 8 tracks(designed by the WO3 track team)

So they list Xbox One and PS4 as stretch goals, yet if you pledge 20 Pounds you are guaranteed a copy? It sounds like one of the backer rewards is something they can't promise which is something Kickstarter has expressively told developers not to do.

I was ecstatic when I saw this thread, then I read the rewards... could they be more confusing and poorly thought out?

The first three rewards don't even include the game, the console version doesn't have a pledge including the soundtrack while the PC version does...

I want the PS4 version but a) I don't get the soundtrack and b) it sounds like if they don't get to £100k I could back the PS4 version and won't receive it.

So disappointing the way they've handled this.

They also don't have a pledge for an Xbox version just PS4.
Not that a console version is even guaranteed anyway.

More updates are up, all PC backers will receive early-access keys, which should be sometime next week. There's also a reward matrix now, which should clarify things.

You could also pledge five pounds and add all the other stuff you want as add-ons.

Vita version? I thought they were using UE4 which does not support the Vita (unless they make a Unity port or something).

I guess that is why that stretch goal is so high. UE3 does run on Vita, but I don't know if it could easily be down-ported.

Pledges and strech goals are so stupid I can't believe it. Really, they could have 3 times more money with simplier kickstarter.

Exactly. Even when I got my head around the various rewards I came away not wanting to back it because there were so many permutations, conditions and uncertainties that I can't be sure I'll actually get what I'd choose.

Physical copy only from the 150 GBP tier? Ew. hopefully there'll be an option to get it physically later. And DRM-free.

Aww damnit, please tell me this is not going to fail because of a messy kickstarter page. This might be our best shot of getting a decent futuristic arcade racer. Possibly for quite a while. And it looks like the right people are involved too. Really hoping they can pull this off and make it great. That said, the kickstarter page really is messy and unclear.

Screenshots of the untextured prototype track that will be playable next week are up, looking very nice, typical WipEout style.

EDIT:
Why are there no images in this thread?

Finally had some time to look at the Kickstarter page.

Wow ... this is one of worst Kickstarter pages I've seen in ages, the pledges and stretch goals are so bad that I don't even remember the last time I saw someone having them this bad.

Secondly I am not a huge fan of basically no gameplay in the pitch video, I guess times have changed and my expectations for a pitch are higher today.

It's also a total console focused genre so I am not sure how much success you can have with the PC being the main version for a start but I understand that it's the only way for them currently.

Will probably pledge for this, but more because the genre is important to me and not because of their awesome pitch (craft designs look a lot better now though and I am sure they can actually produce something good).

There is something I don't understand.

There is a pledge level for buying the console version.

Yet:
1: it is just for PS4 (why announcing the Xbox One version then?)
2: the whole console version - including the PS4 version - is behind a 100.000 GBP stretch goal

So... what if one pledges for the PS4 version and then the console stretch goal is not met?

Also, what about people like me who wants to buy it on XB1?

That's weird.

So... what if one pledges for the PS4 version and then the console stretch goal is not met?

I assume you either get the PC version, or you will have to wait for them to make enough money with the PC version for the PS4 version to happen.

Either way, the thing is a total mess.
