Dear forum people:

I don't know if this is possible or not, but I think it would be great if there was some sort of tweak that could be made to the forum for really big threads.

Multi-page threads are listed as (Pages 1,2,3,4,5....Last)

but it would be aweome if they were listed as (Pages 1....13,14,15,16)

Don't know if that can be done or not.

That's right keep fading!

Edit: What benefit does listing the last page of the thread have over simply saying 'last'?

Clicking into a thread reveals quickly how long a thread is.

hey, the link to offtopic just got changed to O-T. that's enough crazyness this year.

That's not what he's talking about. Sometimes the most relevant information isn't on the last page, and being able to jump closer to it via number is faster than hitting "last" then "back" x times

But sometimes, the most relevant are on the first few pages before a thread devolves into a flame war or into off topic territory.

The only use for it would be if the latest posts in a thread contain the most up to date information, but if a thread is made for that purpose, there's usually someone who goes back and edits the first post with the updated information, files for download etc.

Wouldn't this make jumping to individual pages a pain in the ass?

1

1, 2

1, 2, 3, 4, 5

1 ... 3, 4, 5, 6

1 ... 11, 12, 13, 14

I'm in favour, but the issue itself rates about this [-] much attention.

<Cooters> IM BILL MCNEIL! ON CRACK! I LIKE BOYS!

<BOOZE_Rx> I love how people post suggestions

<Cooters> haha

The little O-T is hard to click, and then the name of this forum is still "Off-Topic." Change them both or change it back.

Yeah I prefered the "Off-Topic" link too, just 'cuz we're all so used to it.

Keep the forum as it is, it's great :)

I can't click on the O-T..every click towards the O-T is like an adventure. In unrelated news, I suck at FPS!

hmm, if we're open to suggestions, how about this one:

if you go to fatwallet, you can see that there's a space reserved after the first post of every thread. this empty space acts as a "summarized" post, which can be edited freely by other members. this would be very handy for threads such as NPD or even things like the Xbox Summit where media and trailers trickled in one by one. instead of going through huge threads, people could just go to the first page and see all the relevant info rather than wading through speculation and unnecessary trolling

or have mods edit the first post of the thread with the relevant stuff...

Yeah, the point isn't to seeing how long the thread is, but if I've been active in a thread, a huge thread, but I've been away 24 hours, if it's active enough, two or three pages have already gone by. I'd love to be able to say, "OK, last time I posted, it was only on page 22" and just click there, rather than clicking "last" and then the next two pages. Who's going to be stuck on page 2? The link is useful to nobody.

If it's a thread where all the interesting stuff is up front and it's 33 pages of flamewar, chances are I'll start from page 1 and by he time I get to page 3, I'll say "well this is enough of this."

It's not a huge deal, but it would be a nice addition to the browsing experience, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

With a large thread it's hard to catch up where you left off. For the PSP 1.50 sticky for instance, the only sensible option is to hit Last, which goes so far as to take me to the very last post, so I've got to backtrack a bit to find what's actually new. If a new page has started, I must first go to the last page, then choose the previous page.

Of course, the option to just go to the first unread straight off would take care of this nearly as well.

Change back the Off-topic button. I mean, did we even get a reason why it got changed in the first place?

Also the Online bit.. just close it down and call it quits. I don't think anyone will mind re-merging it into gaming again.

What more? Oh yeah, more smileys! Back when I joined we had tooons of smileys, and they where all equally hilarious and over u... never mind.. just hilarious. :D :D :D:dd

Can anything be done about the jumping to the last post when you click on "last page". Its annoying; you always have to scroll up again after the page has loaded. And I do agree with Sickboy's suggestion.

Yeah, for me it first loads the HTML code, without all the images, then skips to the last post, then starts to load avatars and eventual images posted in the thread, it skips all over the place before you get any control. :/

Personally, I'd like to see some system for knowing WHY someone has been banned implemented. It could be as simple as making the "banned" part under their username a link to the thread that motivated it. I hate when I see someone has been banned and then having to search through their post history trying to determine what did it.

I second this motion! Not that I revel in other's pain or anything...I just want to know how banned individuals did themselves in...for...research purposes. Yes.

Actually its more fun to go through their post history to figure it out. In some cases, you can slowly see the wheels coming off in other posts they make. Sometimes it's hard to tell.

At the very least, it would make mods accountable.

I really think this is a great idea but I'm sure nothing will ever come of it. Instead, there will just continue to be confusion as to why after the fact.

Hey, I'm willing to take one for the team...

Okay, maybe not but I still think it's a good idea, dammit!
