Forza 7 Pre-Release Discussion (50GB Day1 Patch, Achievements, Demo/Previews on 19th)

I could see them doing a later goty version with a car pack dlc voucher and the game data on 2 discs. They'd better because 50 gigs of download is rough, RIP the 4.9 million US homes without broadband access and the millions more with predatory download limits.

I was actually looking forward to FM7 as the last one I played was 3, but now I'm just going to have to cross it off my list cause my data cap won't really allow even the physical version.

Damn that 50 gig download and 100 gig install size is absolutely insane. Especially for people who cross play and install on both PC and xb1. My ISP now implements a 1TB data cap per month and I come out to around 600gb with streaming and stuff, I wonder if publishers are getting concerned about their games and people getting new lower data caps.

I'm keeping my ultimate pre order since I got it for $64 at amazon but I really didn't enjoy FM5 or FM6 that much whereas FH2 and FH3 are two of my fav games, so I'll probably play for a while and trade it in. Hoping the ultimate "upgrade" sticks to my account and doesn't require the disc if I rebuy base game digital down the road.

Really cool to hear forzathon is back in FM7, thats one of the funnest parts of FH3 for me, just a reason to play every weekend. Hope they get rid of the "win" and "co-op" forzathon events though.

Microsoft has gotten into a very bad habit of shipping part of a game on disc, and then expecting users to download a massive update to get the rest of the game. 50Gb on day one is completely unreasonable, and I presume that the Xbonx update in November would also be large.

What kind of Internet connection are you people on with these caps? Mobile broadband? Haven't seen these caps in my country and we have fiber optic almost everywhere. Before that xDsl up to 60mbit/s. But never caps. Only on 3g and 4g connections.

I would never approve a broadband connection with a cap on it. Is this the only thing you can get?

I already have Halo 5 and Gears 4 with almost 100GB, this is insane!

And 50GB as additional download for the physical version is just... too much.

Somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of Americans have only one broadband ISP (or none) and usually those ISP's are trying to also sell cable TV so they discourage Netflix and streaming via data caps. As they're the only broadband ISP in the area, their customers can't take their business elsewhere short of moving.

That said, most other developed and even some less developed countries are better overall. US internet on average is pretty bad on a world scale especially when you factor in cost as well.

Don't own a Xbox but sorry to the people with capped internet (or very slow).

I don't think a dev would release a day 1 patch that size though for the hell of it so it should have some decent additions

I'm pretty stoked for this. That patch is the sort of thing I'm used to with games larger than a dual-layer BR, but especially for people with shoddy ISPs, that's not exactly a rolling start. That said, previous Forza games with this sort of arrangement really did have the core of the single-player on-disc, so you could play plenty without needing a "right away" download.

I'm hoping to see impressive things, re: their optional-packet feature for keeping down download and hard-drive size. It's something that the industry at large needs to adopt more consistently.

In Windows 10, can we able to install to another drive other than C now ? It wasn't possible at the beginning.

Yeah, that's been in there for a while. There's a setting for default, and you can choose a drive when you first initiate the install in the store. In the normal installed apps panel, you can move stuff from drive-to-drive if it ends up in the wrong place.

It's true that the initial install doesn't include things released in the future, yes.

I hate that crap. Games like BF1 and DOOM are bad enough but having 100 GBs before any patches (which will no doubt be huge) is bad.

At this rate a console can only hold just 4 games.

you can upgrade your storage on console. 1TB drives don't cost much. definitely cheaper than buying the 1TB console models. i just bought a 500GB ps4 and put a 1TB drive in.

you could get about 9 games at 100GB on a 1TB. if that's not enough for you then you can get a 2TB!

Another enormous patch. The patch is bigger than what comes on the disc for most full gen 8 games.

I know it hasn't been done this generation but I liked the way they handled this on the Xbox 360 ... you got two discs when you purchased FM3: The main disc, and a content disc.

They're really going to have to start using bigger discs.

This is ridiculous and not sustainable

It's the way of things. I recall reading a C64 game mag, where people were bitching about Epix Summer Games shipping on multiple floppies. The difference is now we're moving slowly into a game space where sales are going to be moving to online more and more. It's already 100 percent with PC. It's coming with consoles.

I live in a good place for internet speeds/price/uncapped. Other do not. That's the crime here.

It's a good joke made funnier in that this has actually happened in the past. Street Fighter X Tekken had all future content on disc that trickled out over time via paid DLC small unlock codes. Also internet matches were rife with cheaters who hacked all the DLC and steamrolled people online with OP pay-only gems.

Sorry to hear this. I hope your ISPs wake up soon and get rid of these caps.

Wow. They had no problem releasing games with 2 discs on the 360. This would take 2 days for me to download.

Not enough hate for the Underdog achievement in this thread. I will say I'm happy I don't have a data cap with my provider. Curious to see how big the 4K update will be. Another 20GB for updated textures?
Still, Day -4 with my ultimate edition!

I don't think the Xbox One supports multiple discs.

Assuming FM7 is 100+ gig because it ships with 700-odd highly-detailed cars, many of which most people won't even use, then why not let us delete whole swathes of cars (hell - or even tracks) that we have absolutely no interest in to get the file size down?

There's an awful lot of padding in that car list.

Or just have 300 cars and when you want to buy one, just download that one.

Sadly I get the "this service is currently unavailable - try again later" bullshit when I try to sign in into Windows 10 store. I have no idea how to fix it even after following tutorials online, and I don't want to reintall windows, so I'm locked out of playing FH3 and trying the F7 demo. F you MS, F U.

I keep getting the "VIP installation failed" popup on my PC preload. Does anyone know anything about this??

The error message is saying it's failed because I can't install this app on an sd card. I don't even have an SD card in my rig.

Oh god.

Something tells me I won't enjoy the process of trying to get this downloaded and installed.

You can't do that if the game has online multiplayer and someone could pick any car.

The game is massive because it's loaded with content..explain to me how that's bad?

Also if you're not into Forza at all why are you here?

That means that driveavatars and online players can't use those cars either as the data needs to be on the drive.
Drivetars use cars that you have on drive, but for online i agree with you, it needs to be on drive or you download that car. Most people will use single player in the beginning, and you can than download cars at later point. I am just thinking out loud as i dont know how many MB one car has.

Gotta fill up your HDD so you can feel like you actually have games when you look at the free space left. I kid. It's almost crazy how big these patches are getting. I had to do a double take when I installed Doom on my PS4 Pro a while back. Jeez.

This is where that cloud streaming tech for games would be super handy. Only have the tracks on disc and stream every other car as you need it.
