Forza Motorsport 3 - October 2009 release (ignore the OP at your peril)

Witchfinder General

punched Wheelchair Mike
I know I'm a little late but I finally managed to download the demo. Wow, what a fantastic experience. Graphics are a marked improvement over FM2 and look stunning overall while the handling and AI seems to be improved. The game seems to have a level of fun that seemed lacking in its predecessor. I'll be buying day one.

Any news on the official guide? I got the one for Forza 2 and wouldn't mind one for F3. Aside from the informative in game menus\help, it was great for me to read about tuning\tuning tips away from the game. Yes of course in the bathroom...but on the deck too! :D

You'll find 10 sweet cars on 2 separate pack-in cards within the LCE.

BTW, we just got the LCE retail versions in the office yesterday. I need one!

Tease! lol Cant wait. will the cards we unlock be available in the garage or just available for us to buy ingame ( i think thats how it worked in 2).

I ordered it today as well! With the pedalstopper because i hate having it slip underneath me. Hopefully late october means just before the FM3 release so by the time it arrives the game wont be out for too long.

late october? is it not in stock?

Not at all. In fact, I recommend it. Race that way until you are REALLY comfortable with the game. Then, one by one, and one at a time, turn off one assist. Then race a bunch more that way. Then turn off another. If you turn one off and just can't get it, turn it back on. There's nothing wrong with making a game fun for you.

Thanks shpankey & dejay!! Will surely do the same..oh yeah n putting foam under the breaks seems a good idea!

can you tell who it is?

Pretty cool man, looks like a younger (hair lol) bj Penn. I miss working with the livery, so much fun. You've gotten me very interested in making a rampage one once F3 hits hehe

This was one of the last ones I made for forza 2. The pic is from the f3 livery thread op. I also have a ton of unfinished ones like a ken and ryu puzzle fighter car and some misc airbrush attempts.

I think I still have this car in my FM2 garage. You did some cool shit back in the day!

the BJ one should have the obligatory "go to bjpenn.com!" somewhere

wish i still had my sierra nevada, rancid and operation ivy vinyl pics to post (suppose i could retake them in forza 2...).

The impressive thing about designs like Jube3's is that it's more than just drawing an image on a car. The entirety of the car has been taken into consideration for the design and the livery accentuates the curves and lines of the body of the RSX. To me, that's what separates a livery from just a layer group (decal/logo/sticker).

absolutely. i was looking at that car and thinking the same (what with the rivets to tie it all in). liveries are art, but at the same time, i love a well done vinyl that can be applied in any way. i really LOVE that forza 3 will have a marketplace for these without having to buy a (possibly poorly) designed car to go with them.

Yea the AH, livery, and storefronts are what make forza that game I can stick to for so long. I mean you can play for 3-4 hours and then go do storefront, videos etcI cant wait to mess with the vinyl storefront. Even after I had stopped racing in forza 2 I still played it for a mont h just making cars lol.

Ill have a lot of random vinyls like different state/country license plates, mock gaf sponsorship logo stuff on my storefront for people to grab asap.

I have more questions:

License plate customization this time around?

Will I be able to become a VIP member without buying the LCE?

Will I be able to purchase the cars I'd normally get from the LCE/normally get for being a VIP member on LIVE post-launch?

Will there be a way to filter out custom content (i.e. layer groups) so that I can see the top downloaded, etc. instead of sifting through the crap?

Will paint jobs transfer over from one car model to another with minimal distortion? Thought this was a bit of an issue in FM2's editor. I can't blame them if it isn't resolved, its pretty hard to get something like that to work.

Yeah, turning them off one at a time is really the way to go. That way, you can concentrate on dealing with just the one issue created by turning off that specific assist. If you turn them all off at once, it's hard to adjust to half a dozen different problems hitting you at once.

I'd suggest turning off ABS and Braking line last, but that's just me.

Thats a sick car smarkel, both literally and figuratively hehe.

Yeah, all my stuff is going to be vinyls. I was never good at fashioning a whole car, but man that Noodle came out good as hell.

in F3, does anyone know if we can just load up individual paint liveries kind of like Shift that we have purchased made etc.. instead of having 50 of the same car with different designs...

Yea I think theres a blank canvas mode with a grid in this version.

I've paid upto a million forza bucks for some cars, and when I was done playing sold my left over points on ebay, crazy! I never used that "cheat" it was all hard earned!

I think it may be time to start a custom livery thread for design ideas.

I got an OP ready for custom livery's but it might be a bit too soon. My guess is it would be filled with just f2 work.

Yeah, way too early. Unless Che can hook you up with some images of the livery, there really woudln't be too much to put in the OP.

And I'd suggest that all F2 work, as incredible as it is, be kept out of the F3 livery thread. Would be nice to see the whole thing be built from day one instead of everyone throwing their best work/best purchase from F2 into the first 10 pages.

The biggest improvement, or modification to liveries is how they're sold imo. That's gonna be so awesome to sell limited qtys of liveries via the storefront and truly make your creations or purchases a "collectors item". I'm sure some of these epic designs are going to go for a ridiculous amount. All hail the storefront.

I guess links to the FM2 livery thread would be ok if people wanted to post examples.

A coworker of mine just bought a Wheelstand Pro for both his G25 and MS wheel. I gave it a try yesterday at home with my review copy, and damn I can't believe the difference it does to actually be in a good position when driving with the wheel. I just ordered one for myself, can't wait to do some more drifting on Fujimi Kaido :)

Seems to have been eerily quiet on the update front since the demo hit.

I hear Che is working on the full car list for release next week.

Would be great to have a little something to tide us over till then.

I already have one of these, but that wheelstand pro looks like an awesome addition for another room, or for when I can't be bothered getting the cockpit out of storage. :D

Totally agreed.

Returning to a discussion in the thread a while ago about the clutch implementation on the Fanatec wheel in Forza...

It's definitely progressive / variable, i.e. clutch isn't just on / off, you can control it exactly how you would in a normal car and it reacts accordingly.

Excellent news for those of us with one on order. On / off clutch would have been shit. :D

Oh god don't tell me this... I can't afford a $400 expense right now. :(

That clutch stuff looks great.

Guys who have that wheel on order and others should start a wheel thread (like the fighting stick one).

I have the MS wheel but want to be pushed over the edge.

Probably not a lot of point really... last I checked there are 6 of us on GAF who have ordered one. :lol
