Pirates 2 crosses $300M tomorrow. Fastest to $100M, $200M, and now $300M. Most impressive. Still saying it won't break $400M, however. $390M max.

I'm taking it up the ass on Super Ex-Girlfriend. Seemed like it could make at least 15 million... gonna be down over a million bucks in HSX come tomorrow. :(

Maybe next time they'll try and cast a male lead whose personality doesn't resemble that of a popsicle.

I liked it. Surprisingly dark at a couple of points, for something billed as a family movie and there's some terrific characterizations throughout.

Oh and Cars seems to be the least successful Pixar film since A Bug's Life. I wonder how will the unpronounceable movie about rats do.

My brain just hates it even though it might be really good. I just can't get around the fact that they could've made this great Gooniesish live action flick instead of...

another. CG. movie.

Damn I wish somebody was able to setup one of those box office fantasy leagues like Bill Simmons wrote about. I'd have bet half my salary cap on PotC2 and still looked like a genius.

Don't really want to bring the discussion back up, but I think it's justified that Cars doesn't do that well. I think it's the worst movie of Pixar so far. That doesn't say much, 'cause Pixar has a record of fantastic movies, but boy, did Cars suck. :(

Clerks 2 Budget - $5 million

Its great that clerks almost made back its budget in 1 day, but I bet they spent at least $15 m on marketing

Either way, it'll make its money back in spades

Whats Kevin Smith doing next?

It may not seem like a big deal but Clerks II is on way to make 12 million this weekend, biggest KS opening weekend of all time. Previous was Jay & Silent Bob and that had a bigger budget, bigger marketing, and bigger stars. Quite a win for Smith.

He has a couple projects in planning at the moment. Film wise he says his next will be a comedy, but not viewaskew universe based. After that will be his low-budget comedy super hero film Ranger Danger(mentioned in Clerks II). He said after those two he might do a Dogma II.

He says he is also still planning to do a Direct-to-DVD Clerks Animated Movie.

I remember Kevin thinking that JSBSB was going to do amazingly well - he was trying really hard to sell it to the American Pie 2 Crowd.

Anyways, I dont know why I want to say this, but Dogma was the best Jay and Bob film.

This year is being terrible for Warner, first Poseidon bombs spectacularly, them Supes underperforms greatly and now Lady in the Water bombs as well. And no Harry Potter this year, too. :lol

My wife & I saw it last night in digital 3D. WOW, 3D's come a long way. The effect was fantastic. The movie itself is a lot of fun -- the animation technique they use (basically, motion capture) works extremely well, as even with the distinctive artistic style, the characters move with weight and believability. It's weird, kinda dark, has a bit of humor that'll go way over most kids' heads, but it's also very funny. We both enjoyed it quite a bit. 3.5/5. See it in 3D if you can.

Wow...that site is really neat. Not only to can you buy stock in movies, you can buy bonds are as they call them "starbonds". They represent the starpower value of individual actors and directors.

Little Man was funny. Stop listening to RottenTomatoes.

Many movie critics dont go to the movies to have a good time. Go to see Little Man for a good time and you'd be well satisfied.

They panned many funny movies before.

It's too earLy to make that determination about Cars. It's stiLL tracking weLL ahead of Monster's Inc and has made more than Toy Story 2 at the same point in its reLease.

Yep. It's also caught up to The Incredibles' pace quite nicely being $30 million down not too long ago, and now only $10 million back. That and the merchandising puts it way up there as a money maker. Sadly, I don't think it's as good as The Incredibles or Finding Nemo, but at least Pixar didn't trip up with it. Ratatouille I'm sure will be great. Especially with such a unique style going for it and Bird directing again.

I hope. Supposedly Kevin Smith's films can't do more than 30 million total. This opening is only the slightest bit bigger than it's others unfortunately, and did have a lot more advertising going for it. I'd love to see one of em hit $40 at least.

I use my older sister to jauge Pixar movie sucess. She has cared for every Pixar's movies before Cars. She didn't like the idea and the trailer for Cars. She loved the Ratatouile trailer.

Cars -1
Ratatouile +1

who the hell said cars is the least successful Pixar movie since bug's life? are you kidding? it is having the longest legs of any pixar movie this side of nemo.. it should go on to do over 4x it's opening weekend, thus making it the longest legs of any pixar flick aside from nemo. if anything Cars is a big FU in the face of everyone who said its $60M opening weekend makes it a flop.

Yeah, impressive sales. Too bad the movie isn´t a good one...and the Matrix Reloaded esque ending sucks.

Oh darn. Youre right. Cancel Pirates 3, Disney!

Do a remake of Pirates 2 instead and this time don't give it a cliffhanger ending lolz

I'm kidding, I haven't even seen Pirates 2. This weekend, perhaps MY ticket will push it past the $300 million mark!!!

Agreed. Cars legs have been very strong.

Clerks 2 had a pretty small budget too. Not surprised though. Will Kevin Smith movies ever break the 30 million barrier? I've seen Clerks 2 ads everywhere, so I wouldn't be surprised if the advertising budget is 3 times the production budget. Might as well not spend a ton of money advertising his movies anymore anyway, as they always do nearly the same amount in the box office.

Says it will be starting soon. This is the one Bill SImmons was talking about.

The Box Office Challenge runs each 4 times a year, and is alot of fun.
You are given a budget of 250 mil to buy movies from the marketplace (all the movies that will open during the season that the game is running) based on how much you think thaey will gross in their first 3 weekends. The price of the movies in the marketplace change twice a week based on buzz, and buy/sell trends. The site also has a few other games related to the box office.

Now if you want ot make it a little more exciting:
http://www.pinnaclesports.com/ lets you bet real money on the weekly box office.

The Kevin Smith movies are lost on me. Am I the only one? I saw Chasing Amy and it was ok, but Mallrats, Dogma were completely unfunny to me. I have a very particular taste when it comes to humor so maybe that's it....

Also, in the ad for Clerks 2, it shows Rosario Dawson is hooked with some chump working at a dead end job. Huh? How in the blue hell does something like THAT happen? Cause I couldn't see it happening in real life.....

Oh I forgot. It's a COMEDY. :/

As opposed to another live action flick? I mean you've either got animated or live action, basically, and CG is just a newer way to do the former.

Man...Disney is coming out gangbusters this summer. Pirates is an absolute monster, Cars continues to perform well enough to now become pretty much guaranteed the second highest grossing film of the summer (Barring Snakesanity), and they're even getting to give a huge FU to M. Night in the form of nearly doubling his box office opening with their third weekend.

As for Superman...it's only hope for $200 million is for a bit more leveling and continued strong IMAX returns, but this should prove difficult with Ant Bully also releasing in Imax 3D in just a week and likely grabbing some screens.
