The Kevin Smith movies are lost on me. Am I the only one? I saw Chasing Amy and it was ok, but Mallrats, Dogma were completely unfunny to me. I have a very particular taste when it comes to humor so maybe that's it....

Also, in the ad for Clerks 2, it shows Rosario Dawson is hooked with some chump working at a dead end job. Huh? How in the blue hell does something like THAT happen? Cause I couldn't see it happening in real life.....

Oh I forgot. It's a COMEDY. :/

You should check it out. One of his most accessible films for sure.

Yeah but that wasn't his direct involvement, right? I thought that was based off of a tv show.

I'm talking about the new one that he was supposedly directing. I haven't heard much in a while, so maybe it got canceled.

Take a look at the guy in the movie. Forget about the fact that it's just a guy working a dead end job.

In real life, I would find it hard to see a girl like Rosario Dawson dating and procreating with a guy like that. It makes no sense to me. But that is me. That in and of itself makes the movie seem odd and unbelievable to me from the get go.

Keep in mind, this is supposed to be 10 years later, based on the summaries I've read.

Oh darn. Youre right. Cancel Pirates 3, Disney!

Seems like you are more concerned about sales than about the actual movie. Who the hell cares if it sells better than anything else if it´s still a bad movie?? I think this is the first time I´ve seen a movie where absolutely nothing happens 50 minutes into the film.

I know it´s supposed to be a mindless summer flick, but I wouldn´t recomend it to anyone. Cars and Superman would be better movie choices if that´s what you are looking for.

As a summer blockbuster, it did everything it was supposed to do pretty much perfectly. Sure, it was way too long (so was the first one), and the first 40 minutes were superfluous, I agree. But it still managed to be genuinely funny, exciting and compelling for the last 90 minutes or so, though. Something that Superman forgot while trying to be a serious movie. People want to see Superman being, well, Super. Not being emo and stalking Lois Lane.

Anyways, Im sure youre just looking for a platform to leap into another "American movies suck blah x10 rant" Have at it. Im sure GAF is waiting with baited breath.

Yeah I know about HSX, it's not really what I'm interested in, I want one that works more like Yahoo fantasy sports where you set up the rules and have your own group to compete against over a year (for movies maybe we'd set up two seasons a year).

Wooot, that's what I want! We will, of course, set up a GAF OT league for the fantasy sports / movie BO addicts. :D

And, :lol at gambling real money on Hollywood box office. Now *that's* hardcore!

My little sis wanted to go see My Super Ex-Girlfriend on Friday, so I took her and my God was I stunned at how unfunny and devoid of entertainment value that movie is. The 'buddy' of Luke Wilson, I don't know who plays him but he's not funny in this movie. I'm not saying he's not a funny actor, I don't know, but in this movie he bombs. Also who told the casting director that Luke Wilson has a personality? He tries real hard to exhibit one in this movie but ends up just grating his teeth a lot, desperately trying to convey either happiness or pain (couldn't tell.) Stay away from this movie.

I think that shipped has sailed. I bought 50,000 shares when it was at $6.36. Net gain of $3,676,500.00. That is a testament to how much this movie will kick ass!

Looks like about $35 Million for Pirates, which will place it as the third highest third weekend in history.

About $24-$25 Million for Monster House, $19 Million for Lady in the Water, and then it will be close between Clerks II/You, Me and Dupree/Little Man.

$24-25 well deserved million for monster house.. I would love to see it have legs enough to cross $100M deomstically. the movie deserves it, at the very minimum for not being more shitty stupid kids movie drivel.

plan on heading down to chicago next weekend to catch it in 3D. anyone know if the crown village 18 will still have it in 3d next week?

True but most 30 year old working in fast food aren't taking their pick between being wooed by two hot chicks imo. Doesn't matter anyway. It's Hollywood. Ultimately there is more unrealistic stuff in the flick that is more egregious that takes it down a notch imo. That's including the last 20 minutes or so which is ultimately as syrupy as any Disney flick and as bad touchy feel as in a poor "chick" flick.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, just saying it's not the norm. For Smith who seems to be about keeping it real, it also strikes me as odd that he would cast it that way not that Dawson did a bad job or anything. She was one of the few characters that struck me as real. I'll say this. It's more of a Hollywood problem I guess than a particular failing of this film that normal guys are always pulling the hottest chicks on the planet suddenly. Yep, many's the time, as I worked my through college at McDonalds (True Story) that I was nailing Jessica Alba style babes. Not....It was more like that Chapelle Skit about WacArnolds.

Yes, my sheltered life is the reason I posted that. It had nothing to do with the fact that Rosario Dawson esque chicks don't settle on guys working at fast food restaurants. Is Rosario Dawson's character in the movie an idiot? It doesn't seem that way from the ads, so yes, you're right:

It isn't the unrealistic scenario in Clerks II.

It's my "sheltered life." :/

do you know how many hot chicks i know that are bananas over guys with NO jobs, let alone ones that work in fast food? This isn't some new phenomenon.

Lady in the Water is going to die a quick death. The daily estimates have it dropping 4.7% on Saturday - word of mouth is NOT good. It was the only move aside from Clerks II to drop from Friday-Saturday. Heck, Pirates went up 47.5% from Friday to Saturday.

I'm schocked Clerks II is so low, the theater was almost full when I went, and people loved it. Hopefully word of mouth will help it keep going, I know I'm going to see it again.

Clerks II rocked. And really, I doubt it's a problem if it doesn't make a lot. It was dirt cheap to make, and clearly a lobor of love. Smith hit his sweet spot with this one, so as long as its healthily profitable, I'm sure he'll get to keep making movies.

I was surprised at how good it was, frankly. Syrupy, yes, but on purpose and certainly funniier and more touching than the usualy Hollywood romantic comedy stuff.

Plus-- Kinky Kelly from Tiajuana!

Clerks dropped because Smiths audiance is very obsesive and loyal. The majority would go day one.

uh, there's no "poor kevin smith". it's already doubled its production budget.

i'm sure he's just fine. this isn't a huge mainstream movie, dispite what you may think. clerks ii was a movie made for the clerks 1 hardcore fans, without question.

should have done MUCH better because of how good it was, but absolutely NO ONE expected it to smash its production budget.

and dvd sales will be huge.

im hoping it at lesat ends up above crap like lady in the water, dupree, and little man next week.

That's wrongly assuming they get all that gross back. It doesn't. It'll make it's money back, but I don't think they were hoping to be behind a Wayans bros. movie in its second week.

Why would it increase gross in its second week? It'll probably drop out of the Top 10 altogether when Miami Vice, The Ant Bully and John Tucker Must Die hit next weekend.

but as clerks 2 was already in the black before the movie even came out, im sure they'll be just fine.

It's not hardcore, it's a safe way of gambling. If you are into the box office at all, you should be able to make more than you lose (I started 3 weeks ago and am up over $400).

He has a couple projects in planning at the moment. Film wise he says his next will be a comedy, but not viewaskew universe based. After that will be his low-budget comedy super hero film Ranger Danger(mentioned in Clerks II). He said after those two he might do a Dogma II.

He says he is also still planning to do a Direct-to-DVD Clerks Animated Movie.

Dogma II? No thanks, but I'll take an order of Mallrats 2 with a side order of Clerks animated please.

Dogma seems like a very odd choice for a sequel. The plot doesn't really seem like it would support one, but I guess he has an idea...

It probably didn't seem odd to the person who made it. I can only imagine:

He has talked a bit about ideas for another Dogma. He said the first was catholics and would want the second to be about muslims and the middle east. Sounds a bit strange for Kevin Smith.

Haha. Oh my.

At least that sounds like it would be Jay & Silent Bob getting into some kind of wacky trouble again, and not Smith trying to shoehorn the Bethany character into another religious quest where she doesn't really fit.

Edit:

Does anyone remember what the plot outline was for Clerks: Still Clerkin'? I know he's given a brief outline way before the real Clerks 2, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was.

Edit 2:

Nevermind, found it. It's about the Clerks making a movie in the Quick Stop.

a couple of comments about the box office.

first, I am sure smith is pleased with clerks II. as has already been said, the movie was dirt cheap to make, and the ONLY (literally ONLY) reason he made it was as a present to Jason Mewes for staying sober. If you've watched any of the documentary stuff you would know that he promised Mewes many years ago (after he said he was ending jay and silent bob) that if he sobered up he would make Clerks II especially for him. Mewes DIDN'T sober up, got worse, and then finally did sober up. a few years later he asked smith, as a favor, if he would still be willing to give him a clerks II. not only is clerks II a labor of love, but a promise made due to a very close friend.. smith deserves nothing but praise for what he's done, and that isn't even taking into account the movie itself.. the guy is just a really good guy.

I loved monster house, as I've already mentioned, and it says a ton that Cars still dropped LESS THAN 40% in the face of a direct competitor. And if a movie as truly great as Monster House barely erodes Cars' legs, I have no doubts that Antbully and Barnyard will have virtually no effect on them as well. It's funny that cars won't be pixar's highest grossing film of the past few years, but it WILL have the longest legs of any pixar movie in that period. It definitely cements pixar as one of the great animation studios in the history of hollywood, up there with warner, mgm, and disney. I mean their lowest grossing movie was a Bug's Life, which was still $166M ($188M taking into account inflation).

as for M. Night... well, clearly he needs to go in a different direction if he cares about box office results. I haven't seen the movie to know if it's good or bad (though RT doesn't look good) but out of the movies I have saw he has become less mainstream with each subsequent movie...

obviously I don't agree (nor does most of america) that cars sucked, however I do agree that incredibles was better. the problem is that it played during the fall with school in session. had incredibles had a summer release I have no doubts it would have beat cars.
