Very cool - thanks for the heads up.
I knew it was only a matter of time till it hit platforms other than the switch - but we didnt know when.

Im hoping this 2nd one shows some improvements over the 1st remake. The SNES original was simply better than the remake - even the fanmade translation was of a higher quality than the official release.

This release landmarks having an English translation for the full core series now. FM2's translation was only even partially complete by fans.
FM5 has had an excellent translation for years now.

In combat it looks alright, snappier than the original, but how are the cinematics and presentation of the rest? Is it upgraded from what the PS game did or just in a different style that is no longer low res/pixelated and what not? These games were ambitious & cinematic at times, in engine and fmv.

Front Mission 3 is one of my favorites, but I'll definitely play anything we can get. This will be a lot of fun on the Switch/Steam Deck.

Oh huh, this one fell off the map for a while there. (The FM1 remake only came out in 2022, I guess it hasn't been that long, but Forever Entertainment seemed like it was on a roll, for good or otherwise, with its Square and SEGA remakes, then I haven't heard anything new from them in a while.)

Hope it good. I didn't play the first one, but their redo of FM1 appeared to be a tasteful and respectable update that kept the gameplay style while dressing it up well enough to fit in with games today. This isn't an ace studio doing AAA work, but I appreciate their reasonable, not overdone approach to remastering games.

Does this release include the patches?

IS THERE A PHYSICAL VERSION??

Fam, I didn't know you were such a fan of physical copies. :p

Anyway, it seems that there is already a physical release for the Switch: 1) the Japanese multi-language version available through PlayAsia, and 2) a PEGI (European) version handled by Forever Limited, a game distributor from Poland.

As for the PS4/PS5 physical edition (Japanese multi-language), it appears that we will receive news later this year. At least, that's what 4GamerNews is reporting here:

The PS5/PS4 packaged version will be released in late 2024, and an official release date will be announced as soon as it is decided.

I think it will probably get a wider release (ESRB and PEGI) at specialist retailers just like the first game did.

Love this news. Can't wait. Front Mission 3 Remake is next, and that was one of my favorite Front Mission games. I've must have played FM3 at least 3 times (both scenarios) over the years!

God fm is so fun. I haven't played in a long time. I did pick up a complete copy of fm for swan, though. Pretty nice souvenir. :> if I wanted to really play though I'd jump into the fm1 remake. I did play that with an English patch a long time ago and it was really fun. I'd say I've played fm4 the most.

Bundle available for both to save more money on steam.

Curious:

FM2 looks vastly superior to FM1. Do I need to play fm1 to understand fm2?

Each game is pretty self-contained, but they do take place on the same world / time frame. The first game is literally self-contained, on an island. Both the first two games have a pretty massive lore-dump throughout, so you should be fine.

That being said - don't let appearances fool you. Personally, I feel like Front Mission 2 is the weakest game in the entire franchise (outside of the modern garbage like Evolved or Left Alive). The first game is my favorite, followed by 5, then 3, then 4, then 2.

Do any of the others one have the same fake internet as 3?

That was my favorite thing growing up. It was a lot harder to get info on it since I had to go to school or the library to boot up Gamefaqs back then. I had a notebook with all the passwords and logins I would find. Just dumb fun for a young maiden.

The second game has a "network" function, but it's basically just a help screen / tutorial guide with massive amounts of extra lore dump. I don't remember there being any hidden secrets in it like the third game had. It's been a few years since I played 4 and 5, but I'm pretty sure that was scrapped entirely after 3.

I believe there is one Wanzer achievable by doing some "interweb" surf/hacking in the original one. I've dabbled with that version with game FAQs/script translation, but the game was barely playable even in the 90's. Every single battle sequence has 20/25 seconds loading.

Anyway great news, I'll download it today.

Then they've captured the spirit of the original on the Switch release haha

Download it here.

I don't remember this game being that hard, so of course i started on hard.

Got myself obliterated on the second mission. So let's restart on medium now...

I'm on mission 4 of FM1 and I forgot how RNG old games are. At least I can fast move & combat while I save scum through the campaign. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I wish by these remakes, they will make the chance of FM6 in the future. Such underrated series, its like smaller market than it deserves.

You can also still buy Front Mission 3 on your Vita or PS3. I bought FM1 and 2 on Switch. 3 is still my favorite. I will give 2 another shot.

I'm still waiting for them to actually officially release a localized FM5.
I would love this. As I said above, it's my favorite game in the series outside of the first one.

Front Mission 3 is next up, it's already been announced way back when.

I hope they skip 4 and go straight to a 5 remake.
Both games could use this remaster treatment really. It's easy to forget how old these games are - coming out on the PS2 meant they were 4:3 aspect ratio and like 240p.

Playing them with widescreen fixes in PCSX2 is like a night and day difference in and of itself.

Nice. 4 is my favorite, but I never got to play 5. Language wouldn't have been an issue since I can understand Japanese, but I just never had a Japanese PS2.
