HELP! Two days ago my microwave turned to shit!!!!!

Whenever I opened its door the fucking thing turned itself on automatically. Even if I pressed the "off" button it's still on. FUCKING radiation leaking out! I closed the damn door immediately then it turned off. Then I opened the door again it turned itself ON AGAIN!!!!!!!!! I've food inside and I'm not going to reach my hand into it when it's FUCKING ON!!!!!

HELP! Any one experienced this before?? My microwave is nearly 10 years old. It never had any problem until now! How dangerous is the microwave's radiation leakage? I opened the door slightly a few times and that was it. NO MORE. Should I go to see a doctor and check up??!??

Also anyone know how to fix this problem? Without the microwave I haven't eaten anything nice for some time............PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Watched Myth Busters, it's not _that_ dangerous, just dangerous. :) Get a new one, don't try to fix it. If you can't afford one, plan ahead and taw your hamburger buns a couple of hours before you eat. :p

Yeah I'm going to buy a new one. I was just thinking if there is an easy way to fix this then I'll do that. But if not, of course I'll just buy a new one. In these two days I realize microwave is by no doubt the best furniture.......

And second reason I made this thread is to know if anyone ever had their microwaves acted this way and not just mine? Or it's true that the world is just out there to spite me so that I couldn't even have a simple, cheap, and quiet lunch? :(

And the radiation from a microwave isn't that dangerous right? The door was slightly opened a few times by no more than 5 seconds, and I didn't reach my hand inside. No need to worry right am I right?

No, they won't give your cancer or radiation poisoning, don't worry.

They are snug between IR and radio, so unless your blood is boiling RIGHT NOW from the water in your body reacting to it, I am pretty sure you are fine.

Actually, exposure to microwave radiation isn't good for you. Low levels are benign, of course, but you can have minor heating of tissue without noticing it much, and long term exposure does carry an increased risk of cancer. Basically, the heat damages the tissue's DNA, which leads to nasty problems down the road. Since microwaves ovens are specifically designed to heat things like tissue, (eg. food), you've got a potential problem And there's not much to do about it, and the problem will only show up later, so there's no point going to a doctor. OTOH, since minor exposure doesn't carry much risk, you're almost certainly fine.

Crash course on microwaves -
They essentially run on the same wavelengths as 802.11b and most wireless phones (2.4 ghz) so they aren't so dangerous, except microwaves are much more powerful. What happens in a microwave is the electromagnetic waves act like a switch. At this wavelength/frequency they are able to flip bipolar molecules (h20 (aka water) is a nice example. So now that we know the basics heres what happens: the electromagnetic waves flip back and forth really fucking fast causing the water molecules or whatever else is bipolar to flip as well thus making a lot of friction and a lot of heat.

In other words your safe just as long as you don't stick your head in it, although over time it can kill you or do some nasty things to you.

In conclusion, get a new microwave.

If you need a workaround for the next day until you get a new microwave, simply unplug the thing when putting food in and taking it out.

Isn't that risk really only taken if either a) hes a maintenance guy at a microwave tower, or b) he doesn't get a new microwave within lets say, the next 5 years?
