Details:
Fullmetal Alchemist - Brotherhood is a brand new animated series based on the popular manga of the same title. It is a reboot of the previous animated series, aiming to follow the original manga's storyline more closely. As the manga is expected to end within a year, the anime series aims to conclude as close to the end of the manga's serialization run as possible. While it will be more of a manga adaptation than the previous series, it should be noted that there will still be original material exclusive to the anime to keep events fresh for at least the first part of the series. For example, the anime original character Isaac is created and designed by the manga author herself, based on a specific request from the anime director.

The visual style looks kinda iffy and a little bit unpolished, but maybe it's just that they haven't grasped the style of the manga yet.

really, I thought it looked closer to the manga than the original.

those images look like they could have been drawn by the author herself.

What time zones are those airing times in? I might have to catch an online stream or something(even though I'll understand nothing :lol I guess the first episodes will be recognizable enough), seriously hyped for this.

Can't wait it's funny you don't realize how great FMA is till you read the manga

Fixed.

I don't think I could stand the last 15 eps or so of the first anime now that i've read the manga.

Glad they're spicing up the beginning. As I recall, I didn't like the first bunch of episodes.

Also, manga storyline. Woo, now I don't have to read it.

No matter how the adaptation is, somebody will say the manga is still better.

I'm still unsure about the visual style. It's different. Though it doesn't look much better than the original show. Too bad it can't match the style of that first poster, which is really hot.

While the show looks darker, it still looks too clean. :\

What is so great about the manga compared to the original anime?

Put it in spoilers, I don't give a care. Just try not to spoil TOO bad!

It's a completely different plotline after
Hughes dies
Different end villain and homonculi and everything.

I don't really like the fact that they changed the beginning, but as long as it doesn't create continuity problems, fine.

They're just not running the same episodes as the first series. I don't think it'll really change the plot, it'll just be different filler episodes leading up to the actual plot.

It's longer, more epic, there are more characters, and basically everyone has a more important role.

here are some differences
1. No parallel worlds bullshit with the FMA world and the "real" world.
2. Diferences in Homunculi: The anime Pride, Fuhrer King Bradley, is the manga Wrath. the manga Pride is Selim Bradley, the Fuhrer's son. The manga Sloth is a hulkish brute (who also happens to be the fastest homunculus! :O )
3. Homunculus are NOT created from a failed human transmutation.
4. Ed and Al meet a group of travelers from the country of Xing who are also searching for the philosopher's stone.
5. Dante doesn't exist. Rather, the main antagonist of the show is a man known as 'Father'.
6. Hoenheim's backstory is completely different. It still remains tied to the main antagonist of the series, though (Father).
7. Scar kills Tucker along with Nina early on in the manga, rather than just killing nina.
8. Armstrong's sister is a completely awesome general charged with guarding the northern border of Armetris.
... and many more
.

The manga and first anime diverge around the halfway point of the first anime, which is around Chapter 20-ish of the manga, when
Hughes is killed by Envy

Manga chapters are serialized monthly, with about 40 pages per chapter. Chapter 93 released early this month, and Chapter 94 should be out in a week or two.

WoW another FMA series? I just bought the entire FMA anime dvd series last year + the movie :lol

I just hope it will be drastically different. As in the the middle arc and ending since the original FMA series ending was a bit of a letdown considering it's awesome premise.

Whoa so many more than I ever knew!

How long does it usually takes for the fan subbed episodes to come out?
Considering this *is* FMA, I'm guessing a day at most.

Actually, considering everyone is going to be subbing this, 24 hours might be too much, if your definition of fansubs involves dubious spelling/grammar, reduce that number even more.

I've heard people liking the original anime better than the manga because the manga doesn't make sense or something. I've yet to read the manga and with that said, should expectations for the latter half of this series not be high?

Uh... I haven't heard of anyone who has read the manga who likes the anime more.

You must be making this up, because I have never heard of such a case.

I think it's the other way around. The anime makes no sense towards the end.

Why is it that people hate on anything that's Anime Original? The anime is just as good as the manga. It's just that they have vastly different storylines.

First time I've ever heard this, too.

Best comparison I've heard in favor of the anime is that the characters are much more likable. I haven't heard anyone say the stories are equal in quality.

There was nothing wrong with the anme story, it just didn't have as much breadth as the manga one. As a straight character storyline of the two brothers I rather enjoyed it. Made the movie scenes that much more poignant.

the first anime was one of my favorite animes of all time.

and after reading the manga, I'm pretty sure this one will easily top it.

I feel that in some limited comparisons, the anime is easily better than the manga. When comparing how the anime and the manga starts up, I felt the long extended flashback nature of the narrative in the anime develops the characters in a much more effective way than the manga did early on. In terms of actual fights, I would say the Ed vs Greed (ep34?) and Ed vs Envy (ep50) scenes were really well done in terms of being original fights that aren't in the manga. Ed and Al vs Wrath is another pretty impressive showpiece. The Scar episode near the end with Lust and the creation of the Philosopher's Stone was also really solid original material. The manga has really awesome fights that aren't in the anime, but I would say the anime's material stands up quite well for the most part.

Where the manga has a huge advantage over the anime is in the actual payoff. Since the original anime was still ultimately bonded to early manga material, it had to come up with its own explanations and payoffs for the foreshadowing early on. This is a weakness because the team did not come up with those scenes on their own, but yet they had to make up stuff to explain them. Here the manga clearly has the advantage since Arakawa created the original scenes, and she knows exactly where the story is eventually headed so when the payoffs happen they feel much more natural, logical and satisfying.

So this is a complete retelling all the way back to the start? Wow, has this ever been done before with the same creative team at the helm?

I LOVED the first series, but I never saw Conqueror of Shambala.

I'd put it right up there with Gurren Lagann and Cowboy Bebop in terms of awesomeness.

Its not really the same creative team

It may be by BONES, but the Director, writer, character designer, are all different

Evangelion?
First of all, the EVA thing is a theatrical adaptation, so it's not another TV series.

Secondly, GAINAX is not animating the movies.

Also, (in reply to the "thread rules"), BONES is awesome, why would anyone want to talk shit about them?
