this is gonna be good, i can feel it in my bones.

Don't need to be a psychic to tell us that a direct anime adaptation of an excellent manga is going to turn out well, especially when an earlier adaptation of said manga with a weaker storyline was so well received.

It's not a direct adaptation though...

Not HD, and still poop, but at least it's not Nico!

Is the woman that speaks at the end of this (awesome) video anyone noteworthy?

And a side-note, just going by the trailers I'm really curious to see how this show handles the not-so-serious moments, since the trailers make it look much darker than the previous anime (which I'm guessing is closer in tone to the actual manga). I enjoy darker fantasy, but especially enjoy it if it's well-balanced with meaningful, light moments. And I should probably stop talking about this for fear of manga spoilers. So I will!

I've only seen a little bit for the first anime (and liked it), and I've never read the manga. Would it be a good idea to watch this first?

Since chances are this will be better than the original anime, I suggest you watch that first.

Probably watch the original anime first. If the manga story is better (just going off what other people have said, I haven't read it myself), then watching Brotherhood first will probably ruin the original anime, which is surprisingly good for what it is.

Funimation are streaming it on their website for NA region four days after the original air date, and France will be able to watch it streamed as well.

The animeanime.jp website reports that the North American anime distributor Funimation will begin distributing the 2009 Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood anime series on its own website on April 9 at 12:00 p.m. — four days after the Japanese television premiere. France will be able to see the same series on the YouTube video-streaming website. Funimation also holds the licenses for television broadcast and packaged video releases in North America.

FUCK YES!

Very nice! I don't suppose it'll be subbed on there, eh?
Everything else on Funimation's site is subbed too. Plus it would kinda defeat the purpose if it wasn't subbed.

It's really a rising precedent and I hope the trend continues to the point where licensees are given the opportunity to provide services like this for countless of shows. Yeah it might snuff out the fansub community but the anime production companies are the ones hiring them to do the translation work itself.

In essence it stops the grey area problems involved with licensed vs fansub debates and provides an opportunity for the audience to see the shows as soon as possible. I think the companies are slowly learning the fact that fansubs and/or streaming content doesn't necessarily mean zero DVD sales.

So with the series being legally available from April 9th/10th almost worldwide, I'm officially going to ban any fansub begging/whining on sight. Understood? :)

Sounds like a good plan. It's obviously available worldwide legally and the information is readily available in the OP on where to watch it.

Does Funimation even region lock their videos?

Yes, they do. Too bad if you live in one of the few places in the world that isn't getting this in April. The don't ask don't tell policy applies. :)

So... the ban is only if you complain about a fansub right? Or ask "When does it come out!!" Right? Don't wanna risk it =P

Edit: Also Duckroll I can see where he's coming from. GAF is a global community (that thread did really stick with me) so I guess we should be partial to everyone that visits the site. Of course the site is settled in the USA, but GAF also does receive a lot of visitors from outside. Funi does region lock, and it would be unfair to some users who want to watch the series and discuss it to be held back or under the fear of being banned. Just saying!

Right. Whining about fansubs not being available or asking about the availability of such, when there is a legal option available in English, is unacceptable in this thread. This is no different from pirating games just because it's not out in your region. That's a shit excuse. I'll be watching. :p

*suspenseful theme*

Nah its fine, just wanted to point that out. This airs on Gundam 00's slot right?

I'm not against the idea of banning for promoting fansubs (piracy) links. Only that I find it funny that its only bannable now that you in the US can view it for free via a legal stream, whilst we outside of the US can't.

It has always been bannable, I'm just making it clearer in THIS thread. :p

I'm not in the US. :p

You're still getting it from Animax. :/

Hey you can't fault us for having it, even AUSTRALIA is getting it streamed. Maybe you guys should bitch to the anime companies in Europe until they make a deal? It's not too late, there's still a whole week! :D

The question is, will the Funimation broadcast be at anything even remotely approximating HD? This brave new world of legal subs is pretty great, but when the fansub community provides the episodes in much higher quality it is still a very tempting prospect.

Oh, Singapore. So close yet so wildly different from its southern neighbor. Still getting it from Animax, though.

Is there any possibility that Funimation will post these in their Youtube channel? My computer is kinda borked at watching video streaming websites that are too packed with shit.

So is it just the first episode that Funimation is streaming on their website, or every episode? I like this news.

Really awesome news! It's really cool that Funimation is doing this and hope that this leads to more companies following this lead.
