I watching the fight right now, and... I'm not seeing the originality. At least the opening portions rip a lot from the manga...

actually, I just finished watching it, and it was barely a fight. What the hell did I just see?

you guys know of any sites that are subbing this? I bet it will be all over the web, but I still like to support the people who make it.

what fight are you talking about?

The Ed vs. Greed fight? You're crazy. Not only was it fantastic, but it was pretty much animated entirely by one single person...

First of all, the EVA thing is a theatrical adaptation, so it's not another TV series.

Secondly, GAINAX is not animating the movies.

Also, (in reply to the "thread rules"), BONES is awesome, why would anyone want to talk shit about them?

BONES is indeed fucking awesome.

It wasn't original, which is what someone else mentioned earlier in the thread. The only original part occurred when Ed kicked and flipped off of Greed, then stabbed him. Everything else was taken from the manga.

And it wasn't visually impressive, one person or no. That's just my opinion, though, you may like that scene as much as you wish. Perhaps it's more impacting to someone who's watched the anime and takes into account its dramatic importance?

I'm just seeing it on "how well done is this fight?" and its... well, I thought I'd be treated to a totally new fight. As it is, the fight is better rendered in its original format.

Yeah, you are batshit ;P

Naw, I suspect that the payoff for that scene extended beyond the 3 seconds of kicks and flips. I watched a 9 minute clip on YouTube, so I may have missed something beyond that fight.

The fight itself, though?

Tame.

Its not really the same creative team

It may be by BONES, but the Director, writer, character designer, are all different
Plus it's a brand new studio within BONES handling it.

Also, the series is simulcast premiering in Australia at Supanova: Brisbane on Sunday at the same time as its Japanese premiere. In Japanese with English subs.

It will also be hosted with subs on Madman Australia's site a couple days after the Japanese premiere, with new episodes being added every week. My guess is that those will be region locked, but it's a step in the right direction.

Cool, adding that to the OP. :D

A reboot? Sweet. I've missed out on the original anime series and the manga so this makes me ecstatic to hear this is coming out. Fucking great! :D :D :D

Funi needs to work something out so they get to release the dub soon. I can't stand the japanese voices. I won't watch it until its dubbed in english.

I'm sure Funimation would be ecstatic if they could release it ASAP in the states, but dubbing takes time. Especially if you're having to round up the old voices. Plus, I think they're going to want to work with Adult Swim to find the best time to add it to the schedule(my guess is that it'll be after Code Geass stops airing)

So rockin'!

The
parallel universes
thing is exactly where the anime lost me, so this sounds perfect!

It's interesting how many anime series end up 'rebooting'.

p.s. ARMSTRONG!!! <3

But isn't Khara basically Gainax? I mean, they have same people and are even in the same building!

Been caught up with manga (up to vol. 21 & bought all of US vols. that have been released) and I can't wait to see this!

Love the anime and I think it stands on its own quite well, but the manga definitely blows it out of the water. So long as this series can match the strengths of both the manga and the anime, it should be a great ride. :D

Just read the Australia/Madman news. Contemplating on heading into Supernova on Sunday to go watch it but it's going to be a) packed, and b) a sausage fest. Great to hear that the website is streaming it a few days after initial airing in Japan though.

Off topic but excellent news about them snapping up 5cm and Gurren Lagann finally.

I think the anime series was a fine piece of work, but in all honesty in terms of the plotting and mythology, I've found it to be the equivalent of "FMA for dummies". The manga is just so much better in comparison.

Basically this. The manga just blows it out of the water in every way.

You know what rocks? Berserk anime and Manga.

I believe rocks would be an understatement.

the way I see it.

Berserk Manga > FMA Manga

FMA Anime > Berserk Anime

but Berserk's awesomeness is better discussed in the berserk thread.

Lets not get on the subject of Berserk actually ending...

:(

As far as FMA, I finished the anime a year or so ago and loved it but what's this about the manga still running? Wtf? So how the hell did the anime end that long ago? Did they really miss out on that much manga content and a possible alternate ending?

Either the producers or Arakawa (the author) decided against dragging out the series with filler, opting instead to branch from the manga. So Arakawa wrote an alternate storyline, which was used for the anime. I think the same thing is being done with this series except this time it's an alternate beginning?

They're not missing out on anything, the current plan os to have FMA: Brotherhood merge with the manga plotline at some point, most likely after
Hughes' Death ;_;
.

Somewhat glad I didn't bother watching the rest of the series a bit after Hughes had died, instead grabbed onto the manga for a little while but stopped that as well
. It's going to be nice to watch it relatively fresh.

I remember reading that she had nothing to do with the anime at all.

Ah, you're right, she didn't do any writing. Must've had her confused with someone else.

Really? Hm... I at least remember her saying something to the effect that she approved of what they had done.
I could also be mistaken, though!

Why is it that people hate on anything that's Anime Original? The anime is just as good as the manga. It's just that they have vastly different storylines.

Agreed. While I'd still say the manga's storyline overall is better, I think they did a great job on creating the 2nd half of the story in the anime as far as original content goes. Usually, this is were most studios fuck up completely (Naruto fillers anyone?), but I see this as a very rare case where they did excellent in having to create their own continuing story and ending. In fact, I watched entire anime series completely before I had even found out that the manga's story diverged about halfway... needless to say, it gave me a lot of respect for what the did in the anime, as we all know it could have been so much worse.

Approving of (in the liking sense) something is different from taking a part in it.

Not HD, and still poop, but at least it's not Nico!
thanks, I can't wait to see this!
I loved the first series and saw it all before I started reading the manga. I wasn't thrilled with the 'over' world idea, but aside from that I liked Dante and the other story explanations.
Of course it's harder to watch it now that I've see how much better the manga was IMO.
Huges dying still bothers me so much : ( The most likable character, and the only guy with his own family. It was a balsy choice but damn :'(
