Funko |OT| Once you Pop, the fun don't stop

I started collecting about a year ago and I'm almost at 100 Pops. Considering I mostly only buy female Pops I like, I think I'm doing ok.

I have a problem LOL :(

I started a few years ago but just wasn't on GAF. Read the thread a lot though.

My collecting habit is basically: Pops, Dorbz and amiibo. I have a few other Funko products here and there like Mopeez, Rock Candy and I have the Groot Super Deluxe Vinyl. Recently started collecting the Spider-Man Pint Size Heroes as well.

I'll have to post some pictures once I reorganize my collection. It's a bit messy now.

I should be getting my Demogorgon and Eleven pops in this week, hoping I get lucky and get a chase.

Also, I don't even play Kingdom Hearts but those pops are awesome. I want the Mickey and Goofy ones!

Man, the KH Pops thread over on gaming side is terrible. What is it about Funko threads outside of here that attracts people who just want to say "Pops are so fucking ugly, how can anyone like these?"

... I mean, you just don't like the style. Why bother entering the thread just to be negative?

Yeah quite a few people on gaming side hate Funko pops for some reason. That's why I'm glad we have this thread lol.

I totally get that some characters don't look too great in the Pop style. South Park hasn't turned out too well and some classic Disney characters can look a bit off. The Family Guy Pops were bad too. I think the KH Pops look fine though.

And when someone suggests Play Arts or Nendoroids while saying how ugly Pops are, I roll my eyes. Come on, you really don't understand that there's a difference between collecting $10 toys and $60 toys?

I never got the "I dont' get it" stuff. Fine. You don't. There's shit I don't get either or not in to but I don't a) shit on the product and b) shit on people who collect the product.

Boils down to "make thing look bad so I look better" middle-school level of insecurity like when Sega fans would shit on Nintendo circa 1991.

I was pretty negative towards Pops for a good while. For me, at least, it was a long list of being frustrated that they keep getting licenses I want figures of (like Firefly) but their actual figures being trash, and the way they've just dominated retail- my local comic shop is more of a Funko store than a comics store anymore, and half of every Gamestop I walk into belongs to Pops; I can see where people might be really down on them. Especially when you factor how much figure collecting gets shit on in Gaf anyway. Remember every early Amiibo thread? It seems like every gaming figure thread has people rushing to tell everyone how dumb they think owning plastic crap is, and how wasteful it is, or whatever.

I've really come around on them though; I've always wanted a nice Gaming figures shelf, but very few lines for franchises I like have looked good next to each other; Funko scratches that itch perfectly, and it's a hobby I've been able to share with my Mother; she thought they were cute, so I picked her up a Wonder Woman and a Godzilla, and now she's totally obsessed, and it's fun to share the hobby with her.

I wasn't really into Pops either until they came out with a Captain Marvel and then I felt obligated. I've gotten 7 more and a couple Mystery Minis since then. They've grown on me.

Well, the KH thread now has someone wishing that Funko would go out of business and people would lose their jobs because he doesn't like seeing Pops at stores.

Jesus.

I bought my first one on a whim about three years ago. Now I have just over 50 of 'em. I like them for the wide variety of licenses and that they're cheap. I buy them when I see one I like, I haven't really gotten into hunting them or anything. My WWE ones are the only ones I've bought outside of an impluse thing at a store. I'll probably get the rest of the Power Rangers ones as well through that since it's silly only having half the team together.

To me, they're harmless, and so are most things on this forum. I mean, if the worst things you do are play video games and buy the occasional toy, you're doing alright IMO.

I wouldn't get them if they were over 10 bucks (even though I've gotten a couple that were more...oops).

My only complaint is that there are so many properties being covered now it's really difficult to find particular ones that I want. I don't really want to spend 30 minutes at Hot Topic searching through all of the boxes to find the one I want.

The fact that I only collect Marvel hurts this too. I've cooled on them a bit because I'm running out of space to display them so for the most part I just stick with my Collector Corps box and grab the heroes that I really like.

I also always laugh at the people who come into those threads and talk about Nendoroids. My wife would think I was crazy if I spent 100 bucks on a piece of plastic. She already gives me some healthy side eye at the Funko POPs but they're like 9 dollars so who cares?

The bolded is definitely annoying to me too. I don't know if you've ever been to a FYE store, but they have like hundreds of pops stacked up and you could literally spend an hour in there looking through them all. Part of me loves it because it's fun to look through them and see what all they have, but there was one time I went there looking for a Tracer pop that the employee said they had in stock and we both went through the pops for like 20 minutes and never found it.

I see so much pop hate lately and I feel most of it is completely unwarranted, especially that situation.

FYE is like the death's row of retail stores. The one time I went there to grab a record they literally asked me five "would you like to sign up for..." questions in a row. Protection plan, mailing list, magazine subscriptions, etc. You know you're circling the drain when you do that.

The fact that FYE is still open is astonishing to me, especially with their embarrassingly bad subscription they try to force on you.

An employee there was basically harassing my fiancee once to sign up.

If you're on GAF, you don't talk about POP! outside of the OT. It's the same way with amiibo. I run both OTs, so I've seen the same overlapping negative people in other threads that act like these small inoffensive figures are the bane of their existence.

Stick to the OTs and be among friends!

Haha, I've followed your amiibo threads for a while. Good job with those.

I really need to update the OT with the billions of new lines Funko started in the last few months, especially the Funko-Shop stuff.

...And update everything in general because I spend most of my time updating AmiiboGAF.

Haha, I've followed your amiibo threads for a while. Good job with those.

Definitely don't go to /v/ or /toy/ and talk about pops either. People on there complain about them because they want Nendoroids to be appreciated more. That's pretty much it.

Well, Nendos are higher quality (so is just about anything else :3), so I can see where the sentiment comes from.

I can't remember exactly when I bought my first Pops, it was during the Borders closings because I got them really cheap and wikipedia tells me that was in 2010. They were Green Lantern and Batman.

Now I've got around 50. Picked up the whole Cowboy Bebop line a week or two ago. That's the only "complete" line that I own, until they decide to release Ein... *GrumbleGrumble*

But yeah, it's amazing how upset people get over what others choose to spend their money on. Especially on a video game forum where people talk about how big their backlogs are.

Don't go to /toy/ to talk about toys is pretty good advice in general, to be fair. It's really gone down the hole in the last four years or so. Feels like there's more shitposting than actual posting at this point.

I have pre order the overwatch wave 2 pop and guardian of the galaxy , im a big fan of gear of war so that where i started collecting them i was reading the kh funko pop , i understand that some people dont like them etc but saying that ppl should not buy them or why ppl buy them etc is childish. I will post a pic of my collection later on and will only post here about funko pop lol

New to this thread because I didn't even know it existed till some one was hating about it in the main game forum for KH. I love pops. Anyone know of a place taking pre-orders for overwatch series 2. Thank you. Also, would love to get reaper

Picked up a Nemesis and Blisk, and my local Gamestop was clearancing out some Pops for $3, so I grabbed a dirt cheap Elizabeth and Doomguy too. Took my Mom out hunting with me, and she picked up a Pooh Bear, Piglett, Roo and Eeyore from the new Winnie the Pooh series.

Pretty good hauls; I can already tell this is going to spiral out of control for both of us :lol

Anyone know if there's little tricks to find out what Mystery Mini is in a box?

I'm trying(in vain thus far) to get the Pinky Demon from the Best of Bethesda set, exclusive to Gamestop stores.

But it's tough trying to get it, especially when you buy two, and they're both the same fig of one you didn't want.

I know with Lego, its easy since you feel for it, and Minecraft have serial codes on the bottom that align to specific figures.

So, is there some kind of trick to snag a Pinky Demon Mystery Mini?

The secret is to just buy a loose one on eBay. You won't be able to tell unless it's a set like the Sci-Fi Mystery Minis Wave 2 where the super obvious heavy ones were Godzilla or Alien Queen. I have noticed that some of my GS have been selling loose Mystery Minis for MSRP, not sure if that's just a local thing or not.

my girlfriend is thinking about getting into collecting funko pop figurines, is there anything we should know before buying any? are there rarities to different figurines? are they worth leaving in their packaging?

Once you start, there's no turning back, there are exclusives and limited launch ones that are fairly rare/expensive, and they're probably worth more in their packaging but I like to take the ones that I plan on keeping out of their boxes.

If you care about resale at all you should never remove from packaging (this is true of just about everything). I keep them in the box because I like the logo designs and more importantly it lets you stack them.

The best advice I could give is to stick to one or two themes that you like at first. It gets overwhelming if you try to collect everything that you might even be remotely interested in. I've found that I've gotten more selective now that my collection fills a couple of shelves and did I REALLY need that shower cap wearing Deadpool?

I take them out of the box for display purposes, but I keep the boxes and packaging in case I want to sell any later.
