It's been a couple of years since I made a similar topic, so....what do you guys think? Lots of absurd and hilarious things have been happening in our gaming culture of late, from console wars, culture wars, Gamergate/2.0, tone deaf devs, lawsuits, fake games, etc.

So I ask GAF: What was the funniest car crash you've seen on the Gaming freeway in the last fifteen years?

Concord will get more votes but it's Marathon.

It looked boring and was due to release during the highest part of anti GAAS sentiment but then it turned out that it's one stand out feature was stolen.

Whatever this was I guess

To be fair, the only funny for real was Hogwarts Legacy since it was a meltdown for the game just because of the J.K. Rowling stuff, and it sold well, so it was probably the first of many "rare incel victory"

All others are just basically sad. Too much DEI and people didn't bought it. You can't get money if you don't appeal to your audience, duh

Fucking G4 getting back as a full tv channel was a dumb move from the start, and having a stupid arrogant girl in the front of the channel made more shitty. Sad since G4 was great as hell back in the day - Brazil got a very little version, and people still talks today, but the new versions just sucked

Concord was just way to fun for me not to vote for it.
Not even 2 weeks, 2 WEEKS.
It was like a wet dream of mine coming true, if only it happened to more GaaS.

Concord will probably win but honestly it's Marathon.

Sony overpaid for a publisher with a single IP that made money (Destiny) as that same IP was starting to lose steam. Then they started working on a dormant IP and watching Bungie struggling to keep its players on Destiny while not being able to make any positive noise with Marathon has to be really bad for the studio.

Then as if the beta hadn't been bad, the entire art style is a rip off from a designer. No...not just some assets...the entire look and feel of the game came from those designs.

I really can't imagine how they will turn that around, still release the game for like 40 bucks and have a hit. While this is happening Destiny keeps losing...which means Bungie won't have a single game out there that's relevant and Sony will have paid those billins for...nothing.

Yes they lost money with Concord...but Bungie is a big ass publisher. It was a much worse business. (unless somehow Destiny 2 alone was enough for Sony to have recovred those billions but i find that hard to believe).

Its easily Concord. We're talking a 400 MILLION dollar investment down the drain in 2 WEEKS. They saw that generic ass game, and said, "this looks amazing, we have to buy the studio, everyone will love this, this is what the PEOPLE WANT!".. and then they shut it down a week later. complete baboons making these decisions.

They could have spent 400 million on a serious military shooter like SOCOM but instead they decided to chase trends and give us another generic hero shooter.

its hilarious

Heavy recency bias, but Concord. I got hours of entertainment and didn't pay a dime. I even played the beta, and no the gameplay wasn't good either like the defense force tried to claim.

Good selection of notable moments.
Not listed here, since we know little of it, but I think Fairgame$ is going to join Concord & Suicide Squad in the pantheon of spectacular failures.

Concord... I think it is too soon to realize how big of a deal was that Sony spent all that money, they even have an episode of a TV show reserved to it, only for the game to die in like 2 weeks

Where is Carig?

Infinite is just sad... they had everything to change the FPS genre and stop the Call of Mobile Slop Duty games but 343 did what 343 does the best: Fuck everything up with their incompetence. And the worst is that they are not even done.

Definitely the absolute curb stomping Sony delivered to the Xbox One reveal at e3.

The memes, the unanimous approval for Sony's strategy, the unanimous derision and hatred for Xbox's strategy.

Not been anything like it since.

And this was really funny to me back in the day:

And how can we forget the birth of "green rats"

Frogware Games and Nacon's legal battle over the rights to The Sinkin City

That fight was more entertaining than all the games made by that company.

What about that douchebag that plagiarized that IGN review? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It's sad, but that sentence alone wasn't enough to narrow down the event you're talking about. To my mind, IGN is basically synonymous with bad journalism (i.e. plagiarizing, agenda driven reporting, docking games points for bullshit non-gameplay reasons - think RE3R and the pandemic)

Dustborn for me

Anti-woke people found it too woke, non-anti-woke people found it making too much fun of woke people cause it was overkill, so nobody bought it

Nothing can beat Wii Music showcase

Edit
I Forgot Kinect

I feel like I don't give peripheral showcases their fair due. I was never interested in any of it, so when the Little girl comes out to pet the digital tiger or whatever, I take it as an artsy way to tell the audience to go take a piss and refill their drinks or whatever. But there is some gold there, for sure.

I'm also tempted to mention Minecraft conventions, like the chick with a speech impediment promoting her server only for it to be revealed that the chick is like a dog fucker or whatever ended up happening. Or the knitting chick during that speed run charity thing. Basically any interaction between the unwashed masses and game devs has a +60% likelihood of being absolutely hilarious over any other interaction.
