Classically trained pianist here, but I don't compose. I also consider it a completely separate thing from my furryism, other than playing Saint-Saens' Le Cygne once in a while.

I'm attracted to anthro art, some depictions of humanoid robots, honestly just the human form in general.
Applied to actual humans or anthro art. If I had access to the hdd with my drawrings on it I've got a blue tiger guy in a speedo somewhere. Also a cute butterfly girl.

there are just as many fetishes in the anime community (though they have more professional art to balance it out)

Yeah it's found everywhere, I know that.
What I'm saying is, anytime I even get close to a furry site or thread, I'll see at least three or four obscure or weird fetishes.
When it comes to "Animu" it takes a lot more effort to run into it in my own personal experience. (discounting some of the creepo stuff people post on deviantart.)
As far as I can tell, most people reacted badly to that tickle porn drawing.

Nah, any anime-centric thread pretty much has fetishes readily done. It's just that furries can actually do them without looking sexual.
I think the tickle image has "rape" implications in it (as in, unwilling victim), so I guess that's why it looks off.

I used to be vaguely into furry art. The weekend before last, I went to a furry christmas party with a couple of other vaguely-furry friends for the hell of it, and I swear they clawed me right back into the scene with their cute little fluffy paws. I can't deny it, I love them. :3
There's some great character design and art out there, and the fursuits at this christmas thing were awesome! (this is a pretty cute pic... the purple dog was adorable, and the suave-looking dingo(?) at the back is a really well made costume). The tourists and kids loved it too, so it's all good.
The furries I met were also considerably less wretched than, say, your average anime con-goer. They were quite witty and sociable, even...

I m not trying to sound like an ass, and Im just going to apologize in advance in case this is interpreted as a rather dickish thing to say, but it kills me that you have these really well thought out and interesting to read posts by people like Kaijima and Miktar followed by what is essentially fetish material.

Well, maybe it got here because there hasn't been any discussion from an alternative point of view for a while, and it's acting like an impromptu OT. Also, Kaijima tends to make posts that are well done, that tend to mostly answer questions fully.

Guess i'm the only one who likes romance pictures, not fetishes.

Sadness is pretty romantic.

I think it's due to furry being both bigger and smaller in certain ways. Because there's little professional content aimed at the fandom and the fans make most of their own content, the tastes of a few popular fandom celebrities can define a surprising amount of the fandom. Now couple that with the notion that furry, for various reasons, has an "anything goes" attitude, where people are encouraged to accept and display nearly anything.
So, for example, you have a few super star artists (by fandoms standards) who have a foot fetish and since they're actually pretty good in a technical sense (when most aren't) tickling fetish art has an exaggerated influence on the culture. Because more people are impressed by the quality of the art and it sticks. It just happens to be focused on promoting a particular kink.
Another factor is that a few of the fans who seem to have had a bundle of combination fetishes (another furry trademark) also got into positions of running major websites, archives, forums, or whatever, and helped promote what they were into.
It's really no different, I suppose, from any celebrity persona having a huge influence on a fandom. Except in many other fandoms, the celebs are professionals so their work tends to bow more to mainstream tastes, marketability, and yes, repression. When you have a fandom that largely produces its own content, with little regard for mainstream acceptance, well, there you go!
