I'll post the same thing I posted in another thread a couple hours ago: I generally embrace weirdos and their weird hang-ups and obsessions. I do wonder what it is about furries that attracts so many people to such a...specific fetish.. I mean, that's a seriously huge community it seems like. Is it unique to our generation, or were there people in the Roman empire secretly drawing sketches of cat ladies and then rubbing one out? If the former, then why is that?
EDIT: It would be cool if in like 20 years, after everyone is basically cool with gay people, you guys would start a big brouhaha about furry rights. I want to watch the squares squirm.
DOUBLE EDIT: I guess something would have to be illegal first though. Maybe some net neutrality law will make amateur depictions of licensed characters illegal to even exist. So you couldn't have pony porn anymore. The internet would probably collapse from the mass exodus.

I just see the animal-people as people. Got a wolf head? Cognitive abilities of a human? Ok, I'll consider you as like a human. Some people actually have a furry "fetish" in that it references or enhances their sexuality in some way. Me, I just grew up on Looney Tunes and DuckTales, and so am used to talking animals. Like most of us, I should add. People have an idea of what a furry is, I suppose, something to do with fursuits and frottage, but they're so far off the mark as to almost not be worth correcting until they get annoying or offensive.

I also really like anthro art in general.. just not the erotica-level stuff.
EXAMPLE:
Obviously inspired by Star Fox! This picture is 3 years old though.. and I actually really miss drawing furries.
I just think animals are cool. Plus easier to make differentiated characters based on different animal species than it is with just humans.
The whole sexual gratification with animal-based things though.. not my cup of tea. Though I can obviously tell what is supposed to be a sexy/attractive/cute anthro character just through relating it with human body language and aesthetic preferences.

There seems to be some kind of conflict when people think "furry". Some people, be them "furry" or not, think the term means you adhere to the sexual side of the fandom as well. Some think it just means you "really like anthro characters". I have seen people who call themselves furries and are asexual.
I would be in the non-sexual camp. I love anthros and I love drawing them ... but I'm not sexually attracted to them.
I also draw them! My pics are always pretty damn huge but you can see them on my site :]
I also do commissions to anyone who likes what they see on my site!
Been a while since I did any commissions ... gotta start back looking for work.
Some of my best experiences are actually when I can ignore the fact that I have those cognitive abilities. I mean, I'm still using them, because I'm at a computer typing to someone else I know in the English language, but my character doesn't have to know or care about any of that.
Being a furry for me has nothing to do with the fetishising of cartoon characters. The fact is, furries take different forms. You'll never catch me wearing a dragon mask or tail. You will find me on IRC acting out what I will never experience in real life.

She started out as my "invent a race of alien creatures and given one member a story" project in one of my character design classes and I just kept going with her over the years until she just kinda became my main character.

Actually, I do think there's a difference. Like, I find the concept of human + furry interesting, but in the same way that I find, say, human + alien, or human + robot, or whatever interesting.
It's kind of like the unique storyline qualities that come up from interracial relationships, but on a much higher level.
