"Based on the Danish/Swedish series Bron"

Why can't they come up with more original shows, why do we need American versions of existing shows (The Office comes to mind, I think AMC's awful The Killing was based on a European version as well)...

For a lead?

Sherlock, Bones, Hannibal, and The Big Bang Theory all have leads with Asperger's (all but in name).

There are still tons of original shows out there; the remakes make up only a portion of the US TV landscape.

She does, but it's mainly used for comic relief and to make the working relationship with her partner more interesting. She's portrayed as a good detective, but not as some kind of savant. Hope the remake follows along those lines.

I'll be interested to see how they handle it. Hopefully she isn't the typical socially awkward quirky genius type of asperger (since she's not like that in the original version, I have my fingers crossed), but at the same time "lolaspergers" could be problematic as well. I have faith that the writers will do a good job though.

If this is true that would mean august will have Dexter, Ray Donovan, Suits, Breaking Bad and this show for me to watch. What a joy.

Didn't know it starts in July already. Saw the original a while ago and would be skeptical of this but considering it is on FX it might turn out decent. Too bad Kruger can't act though.

I kinda have an unhealthy thing for Kruger.

Me too. They've been stingy with the promotional material so far.

I kept waiting for a more significant teaser but if there was one I missed it. I figured there'd be a bigger push with The Americans finale considering there isn't another drama for cross promotion over the next two months.

thanks for the laugh

no, that's hollywoodspergers. genius savants or zany goofs with only the most cinematically pleasing of autistic traits.

the bridge's co-lead (at least in the original) is a world apart from that and subsequently is one of the best female characters ever written in to a TV series. i'm sure she'll get gussied up for american audiences, though.

As far as I know FX hasn't released any teasers aside from the four quick ones they've been airing. I'm surprised they didn't put something up with The Americans finale. The critics saw a trailer (sizzle reel?) in late March at upfronts, I guess we're waiting a little longer on a trailer.

The original was really impressive stuff. The lead female is so weird, awkward and awesome.

Some of the plotting/themes were a bit on the nose, but the chemistry of the leads really drove home the story.

A few early comments from Jace Lacob:
Televisionary said:
FX's The Bridge: too early to tell how successful an adaptation it will be as it's closely echoing Broen in the pilot episode. Diane Kruger is good as Sonya, but so far lacks ephemeral spark that Sofia Helin brought to the role in Broen. Hoping plot diverges more.

There are some nice cultural divides being explored here, between El Paso and Juarez, between looking away and an acceptance of violence. I'm hoping (A) the US/Mexican conflicts play a strong role here and (B) that the killer/plot isn't the same as in Danish/Swedish original. I argued last June that Broen was ultimately about forging connections and I hope that's true of The Bridge as well.

If you don't come with knowledge of original, you may enjoy this significantly. Based on pilot alone, I can't critique overall.

The original is so damn good. Having the main character have aspberger syndrome was brilliant. This looks dumb.

The way Saga continually pronounces Martin's last name in Danish because she takes everything literally is one of the best running gags in a show ever.

They canceled Terriers.

I will forever be skeptical of FX because of that. Also, Lights Out. I really enjoyed that show :(

They're still a cable channel dependent on advertisers and beholden to nielsen ratings. Landgraf has explained that he loved Terriers, but the ratings were so low that they could not continue to finance or keep it on the air. It wasn't out of spite, it's a business afterall, and that show just wasn't performing well enough.

And?

FX isn't a charity. Virtually no one watched it. Maybe the marketing wasn't great and maybe the title everyone decided upon was misguided, but FX still funded and aired a brilliant season of television.

FX generally delivers and supports really great shows, but that only goes so far. It's up to the public to do the rest by watching.

Yup, aside from some misguided marketing, I can't blame them for how they handled the show. The ratings were bad.
Did the second half of The Americans turn out well?.
Yes, you should watch it.

Did the second half of The Americans turn out well? I didn't finish it, and I would like an excuse to.

Definitely. If you liked what you saw, the show certainly doesn't take a dive or anything like that. It keeps going strong/er.
