G-Sync is the god-level gaming upgrade.

It sounds like that really scarred you, but I have a G2460PG too and I have had no problems like that at all. There was one issue where for some reason G-Sync turned itself off, but that was a GPU problem, not a monitor one. The reason I bring that up is that I loaded GTAV, and I noticed the tearing immediately. For me, it's massive. I'll only ever not use G-Sync if I'm using ULMB for games I can run at a constant 120fps. I think my point is that I don't know how you can give it up!

Full frame-by-frame clarity is a huge plus and why I jumped on Gsync, but tearing isn't that much of an issue for me. I mean, it is, but I can tolerate it. I think years of cranking games at absurd settings on mixed hardware has conditioned me to tolerate unstable and tearing frames. That and a lot of console gaming. I mean, ideally I want 60fps locked with no tearing, but not having this doesn't bother me. My main interest with Gsync was eliminating tearing and avoiding the input lag from standard vsync.

I started Morrowind on a TNT2.

Anyone tried G-sync with emus? Or to be exact with pcsx2? It cuts my FPS in half, no matter if windowed or fullscreen and I have to turn it off for it to work. Can I just have G-Sync enabled per app basis like the other settings (AA, AF and such)?

Not sure if it works with PCSX2, but you should be able to do that in the Nvidia CP.

I just tried PCSX2 (and NullDC), and if you enable Windowed G-Sync it works :)

Screen's refresh rate is perfectly matching the 50 FPS of a PAL game in PCSX2 for example.

So I joined the new g-sync age and bought the Acer XB270HA screen, but now there's a weird problem with it.

When I activate 144Hz refresh rate, an 8 pixel long horizontal line where the backlight seems dimmer appears on the lowes pixel row. It doesn't appear at all on 120Hz and lower refresh rates.

Here's a pic of it:

Anyone ever seen similar problem?

If I had to choose what would you guys recommend. Upgrade my 780ti to a 980ti now and get the G-Sync monitor this fall, or do the monitor first and gpu this fall? I just cant swing both right now.

Monitor first. It's more useful for those times when your GPU can't keep up at 100%. You'd notice it more with a 780ti than with a 980ti, but it'll be nice with the 980ti for when games go wonky and drop frames.

So I bit the bullet and bought a 144hz 27" G Sync monitor and it's fantastic.

One issue though: I have a dual monitor setup and while I'm playing a game on my 144hz monitor, if there's a visible program window (lets say, teamspeak) in the other monitor I get constant framerate drops and stuttering.

I have an i5 4690k, 16GB RAM, and a GeForce GTX 770. As soon as I minimize the program off the other screen it stops stuttering.

Is this a driver issue or something? I'm up to date on everything.

Does anybody know if I could hook up a ps4 to my 1080p g-sync display and play at 60hz (without g-sync, obviously) using a DP to HDMI adapter, while possibly also utilizing ULMB?

I would want to do this because the monitor is my only 1080p display and I couldn't afford to go for the benq XL2420G with the multiple inputs. I'd be doing this on an Acer XB240H btw.

so does this mean the console gaming manufacturers were stupid to go with AMD? Because doesn't Gsync only work with nvidia graphic cards?

In theory I think you could, but my AOC monitor (G2460PG) only lets me turn on G-Sync in 80/100/120hz modes. So if your monitor let you turn on ULMB, then it could work as it's just backlight strobing that doesn't involve the input image.

Freesync monitors exist too! But it all depends on whether these GPUs would have been compatible.

Well there's more to it. First of all, the consoles only have an HDMI output and currently neither Freesync or Gsync work over HDMI, though I believe there is hope that Freesync may be possible over HDMI at some point. Potentially the bigger issue is how vsync is handled. To use Gsync properly in game vsync would need to be disabled but those options are things you'd typically not see in a console game. The developers would need to recognize that the user's console is connected to a freesync/gsync display and disable vsync in those cases (or give the user the option but those settings are rarely exposed on console games to avoid confusion.)

Guess I'm gonna have to get an adapter and test it out. :P

Please report back here. I certainly doubt it will work (are there even HDMI>DP adapters/converters that don't cost a fortune?) but I haven't spent more than 15min looking around since I don't have any consoles around right now.

I tried using dp to hdmi adapter with my pc and acer xb270ha monitor and it didn't work (no signal). Of course it could be different with ps4 but it doesn't seem very promising :/

Edit: OR wait, did I use Hdmi to dp adapter..Too drunk, error

What's the word on the Asus PG279Q release date? I'm seriously thinking about getting the Acer XB270HU for $720 at Amazon. Any reason I should hold off any longer? I believe the specs are similar (27" 144hz 1440p IPS panel). I'm just worried about the price of the Asus monitor. Will it cost more or less? Will it have more bells and whistles over the Acer monitor, and will it be worth the wait?

Release date info, por favor.

Specs will probably be the same, only another stand which most people prefer. I think the price will be higher tough.

Acer Predator X34 (21:9 Curved 3440x1440 AH-IPS) will do 100Hz, stock ETA early October

Sounds so beautiful. I wish I could justify throwing 1300 or whatever this costs at a monitor, but that's more than my PC components cost me lol

Been waiting on this monitor before witcher 3. Going to be awesome and by that time witcher 3 should have enough patches to make it fun througout! win-win

Will probably be more expensive and offer official support for 3D Vision. Uses the same panel as the acer though. Eventually more important: it will offer an additional HDMI-in if you need it for a console or sth.

I doubt I will be moving/adjusting my monitor much once I have it setup, so I don't think the stand would be an issue for me. Damn, really considering getting the Acer monitor now.

It's only $720 for Prime members. It's on the right side of the page.

Hmmm, an HDMI port would be nice.

I guess I should mention I've never owned an Acer monitor before. I usually go with Asus (owned a Dell monitor once), so that's probably why I'm a bit hesitant to buy the XB270HU.

Are people expecting anything different/better with the ASUS one, or is it just because it's ASUS that they're waiting?

That's precisely the reason why I said I'm waiting above lol. I don't really know why though. I guess I'm just scared of dropping 700 bones on a monitor and having it crap out on me. Asus monitors have been reliable.

doesn't use HDMI? then what does it use lol

After extensive testing they concluded my g-sync monitor wasn't faulty, but I got a refund anyway and decided to put it towards a 1440p 60Hz monitor and 980 Ti.

I'll be back on the g-sync band wagon one day because I love what it does, but yeah. Either when prices drop, or I can afford paying the higher entry price for a decent monitor alone.

Anyone having issues with gsync on W10? I find performance is all over the place. If I use windowed gsync, some games have horrible frame rates (probably based on my browser or something) and if I use full screen other games will stutter. Diablo 3 just straight ignores vsync setting for some reason. Restarting usually brings it back to normal until it breaks again, but I'm not used to restarting my computer every day (or week or month).

Hm, only tested it in GTAV so far and it worked as usual. I recall knitoe saying he had issues with Diablos 3 + Gsync as well in the Windows 10 thread though.

Are you sure it's gsync related? Sleeping Dogs, for example, performs horribly in Windows 10 for me, gsync or non gsync. It doesn't matter for me.

In one scene, I used to get around 100 fps in Windows 8.1. Now, with Windows 10, gsync or non gsync, I get around somewhere in the neighborhood of 60.

I'm not talking about frame rate performance but more like random stutters and frame rates locked at incorrect values. I suspect it being a gsync thing, both because gsync has never worked flawless in windowed mode and because the problems often end up fixed if I switch between windows gsync and fullscreen gsync in the control panel (and the fact that diablo isn't adhearing to gsync specific options while otherwise working perfectly)

Will the 24" monitors ever drop in price or will we be playing the waiting game?

crap I wish I had snagged that $350 AOC on newegg last week

Yes, I've noticed issues. Let me preface by saying that I have 3 monitors connected to my 980 Ti. One being for gaming @ 144hz g-sync. I've noticed some stuttering with other windows open. World of Warcraft will perform like borderless windowed mode when in fullscreen mode. I restarted WOW and the issue was fixed. Even a fairly low resource game like Rogue Knight was stuttering when having my chrome browser open and other windows open. I think there is definitely driver issues, possible related to multi monitors and or g-sync as well.

I've tried G-Sync on a 28" from Acer at my cousin and wasn't too impressed though.
But I had the impression that the lights were washed out because it was a TN panel.
I'm currently holding out for ...well depends how good they actually become head mounted display in which I loose myself or the real dream is a

21:9, IPS, 3440x1440 34 inch GSync screen. Oh and 120 or 144hz.

I currently have the LG34UM95 and 65 one above another and it's a fantastic display. It's only 60hz but my graphic cards can't push Witcher 3 above 50 FPS anyway so it's not that much of a game changer I believe.

I have the exact same problem and I'm also a g-sync + dual monitor user.

Me too. Dual monitor, SLI and G-Sync. It seems having anyone of those 3 with these new Nvidia drivers and it fucks up your experience in several games. Fuck, even just watching Heroes in HOTS It becomes all stuttery. BF4 & BFH crash every 10mn for fucks sake.

Yeah, I forgot to say that I have a SLI setup as well.

Have you guys tried disabling shadowplay? With Win 10 I had some flickering in Starcraft 2 but it goes away when shadowplay is off, hopefully something that'll get sorted in future nvidia drivers.

SLI definitely the culprit. BF4 runs fine on just one card and it is still smooth at 1440p thanks to G-Sync. Also I guess Guild Wars 2 SLI is totally broken, it was stuttering so goddamn much, running on one card I get the same amount of frames and no stutter at all.

Thinking about dumping my cards for one GTX 980ti but cars still too pricy here.

But glad G-Sync is finally kicking in, shame I had to disable SLI to appreciate it. Really hope Nvidia will come with some killer Windows 10 drivers in the near future...

I never have Shadowplay enabled pretty much. I should also add that I use a single gpu configuration.

Received a BenQ XL2420G this week. Is there some kind of voodoo needed to press the menu buttons? Pressing them with my palm always seem to work. But my fingers are not recognized by all the buttons. Some work, some don't. Had another person try it with the same results.

The On/Off-button for example only works with my palm. But I can open the menu with my thumb. Am I just a complete idiot or are the buttons broken? Confuses me that they always work when I use my palm to push them.

You will have to make an ugly compromise since Acer X34 will support only 100 Hz at 3440x1440 ;)

Same thing here. Saw the Predator Z35 specs, figured hey, VA, lower resolution, and there are VA curved displays around $600 right now. Can't be that bad...

NCIX Preorder price: $1,164.50

*chokes*

Nothing left to do but hope one of the existing 24" panels goes on sale someday.
