If it was only possible for Acer to release a tool that allows them unlock these new hidden upgrades in the monitor unless they're changing some internal hardware to make them work.

If it makes you feel better, my Asus PG279Q is not stable on 165hz (on certain games). It hasn't crashed on 144hz ever. I guess that's why they're calling overclock and not just run it at 165hz instead 144hz from the factory.

I recall going through a manual for the monitor that described how to flash the software. Required some external hardware and opening up the monitor, so maybe that's why they don't offer it?

Oh, I thought the Asus PG279Q was a native 165hz monitor but instead its just an overlock from 144hz. That's almost misleading marketing.

I had no clue about that, I barely read any manuals now a day. Also interesting to learn there's a way to upgrade the firmware but almost impossible unless you send it back to Acer.

Sometimes I try games without G-Sync. I haven't been able to get stutter-free performance in GTA5 since a post-launch patch introduced microstutter every ~1 second. Enable G-Sync and it's perfect.

Damnit, I'm getting weird errors these last 2 days where the screen (Asus PG279q) suddenly loses connection through the displayport. I'm getting a hold of a certified StarTech displayport cable to see if that fixes things, but it sure scares me.

Does it both in Win 10 and/or games. Not often and a hard reset fixes it, but it is still mighty annoying.

SO I'm right on the edge of upgrading to a freesync 21:9 upgrade and just want to pass it by people here to make sure my choice is good.

an alternative being the LG 34UM67 which has speakers that I dont need and is slightly brighter 300cd/m2 vs 250 cd/m2. I dont think its worth the extra ~£40

this cable should be fine right?

Do you guys think these are a good choice?

Yup, you can turn your monitor on/off without losing Gsync. It's entirely limited to sleeping so I've disabled it at an OS level and haven't seen any further issues since. I tend to leave my PC on for months without a reboot.

Are those 2 u2711s?

I bet you don't ever need a heater. I went from the u2711 to the same monitor and I was astonished that this thing produces pretty much zero heat.

FWIW I haven't gotten this behaviour. I do have issues though where sometimes my screen won't turn on, or I'll come back from sleep and the screen will be all pixelated and then I have to restart my computer (maybe that's on my GPU's end?). Sometimes G-Sync doesn't work at all and I have to replug in the displayport connector for it to detect the monitor's g-synciness (I think they fixed this with one of their current drivers, haven't had it happen in over a month now).

Yes it is, and 75hz also( remember to change that in video confg options).

I have the 29um67, and I love the aspect ratio.
The Freesync on the other hand is not so good, because it works only up to 48 FPS. So you have only 27fps of range for it to work.

II probably will change it to a Gsync/Freesync 21:9 with 144hz in a couple of years, but its a good monitor.

I'm looking into a 34" 21:9 monitor as an upgrade from my 27" 1440P display. Mostly for driving games. Seems like the price range goes from $400 to $1400. The cheaper ones are no good because I'd be downgrading from my current 90hz overclock and the expensive ones are perpetually out of stock and super expensive obviously. I guess I should use that in-stock checker site.

Yes, it is in G-Sync mode. I am using the BenqXL2420G. There are two options within its menu. Classic Mode, and G-Sync mode. I have it on the G-Sync mode atm. I tried switching it to Classic Mode to see whether switching the monitor modes would fix the issue, but it did not fix the problem (And when I switch back to G-Sync mode. Windows notifies me that I connected a G-Sync monitor). I did a bit of research about the problem as well, and there was one case in which a previous Nvidia drivers messed up, and many people with G-Sync monitors were getting stuttering problems, and Nvidia released a hotfix driver update to fix the issue.

Edit: I am going to try a couple of other methods to resolve my issue. I figured that I should post here because someone might have already come across the issue, and found a solution to the problem. I'll update this post if my issue is resolved.

I did the reverse and bought a 390 because of the monitor. Besides that issue, I really recommend it.

BTW, I trying to look if I can overclock it, but no luck so far.

I just tried it and it's smooth as butter for me with no screen tearing. I have vsync off in-game, vsync on in the NVCP. Also, make sure your preferred refresh rate is also set to highest available in your NVCP.

It's not necessary but from what I understand, by doing that, it caps your frame rate to your monitor's refresh rate. If you don't enable it, your frame rate becomes unlocked in-game, and if the frame rate exceeds your monitor's refresh rate, you then get screen tearing.

They changed the way Vsync in the control panel works with Gysnc on a few months ago. It's to allow you to disable it in case you have the rig to go above refresh rate and want the reduced input lag even if it means reintroducing screen tearing.

That isn't to say you need to enable it, it's just if you're running past the cap. It's adaptive, it's not in effect until the cap.

You're capped by your refresh rate.

If you're at 60 on 95 hz, don't worry about it.

What you MIGHT want to do is if you're running say, CSGO at 95 by default (this is the cap Gsync forces on you because of your monitor), you could try disabling VSYC for that game in the control panel because you have the rig to run it at 144 FPS and thus your input lag would descrease (but reintroduces screen tearing). It's an option meant for a very specific crowd.

TLDR for the most part, leave the default setting on.

Run this program, and it will ask you to boot into safe mode. Once you're in safe mode. It will open up automatically, and give you a few options. Choose the first option, and it'll do everything automatically. And that should fix the G-Sync stuttering issue.

Update: That ended up not working. It worked fine the first time, and everything was fine. I booted up Counter-Strike: Global Offensive just recently, and the same problem occurred. I noticed something interesting. The monitor displayed a distorted image of pixels (colored, and small white squares) before it began causing the symptoms. I think it is most likely due to the drivers, or Windows 10. I don't think it is the monitor because everything has worked fine while I was on Windows 7 (Three days ago). The solution that I have found is to go into Nvidia Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > And select the game that you want to have uncapped fps. Make a custom profile with Fixed Refresh as the Monitor Technology with V-Sync off. This is the best way to uncap fps of a game (In my case CS:GO) to reduce the input latency. But this method will not allow you to use G-Sync with V-Sync off. I hope this was helpful, and maybe Nvidia will fix this problem in the near future... Or not

There's not a lot to choose from currently. HDMI in has only been implemented in the latest revision of the Gsync module which is currently used in the following 27" screens: Acer XB271HU and Asus PG279Q. I'm not aware of any other 27" Gsync displays with HDMI input.

i have crossfire 290x and was looking for a good freesync monitor but they all seem to have major problems, at least the 1440p and up ones think ill just wait it out little longer

They're U2311H, but close. I've never noticed them heating up; just touching them after being on for a few hours and they're cool to the touch.

For those with a XB270HU, what configuration are you using? I've tried a few now and I can't quite get the brightness/saturation right;

Still a great monitor. Only thing is that it's a TN panel. I have a XL2411Z, which I'm pretty sure uses the same panel, and after tweaking it/ICC profile, it looks really good.

I have been using the Benq XL2420G for quite a while now. I think that it's a pretty good monitor, but there are better alternatives available. Especially with better screen technology like VA, or IPS.

I had this one and returned it for the XB270HU. It's pretty good, but you can tell it's a TN. Gaming looks good, IPS looks better.

Sadly the game isn't currently designed for that high of a refresh rate. =/ But updates are always possible!

I run on a dell 1440p 144hz , 5820 and 980ti as well, and can run heroes of the storm fine at 100fps+

Try turning g-sync on if ur monitor has it, and make sure the game is in full screen mode

I have the XB270HU, which is the previous model, and a 980 Ti. I absolutely get 100+ fps when playing Heroes of the Storm. Maybe double check your settings?
