G-Sync is the god-level gaming upgrade.

Any news on new g-sync monitors?

I've never seen an adaptive sync monitor in action, so can someone describe to me what it would be like to be playing at 60fps for example, only for the framerate to drop to 30 or something? Can you see the difference?

30 FPS is still 30 FPS so it would look the same with lower input latency. Framerates typically don't drop in half like that though, and G-Sync handles smaller framerate fluctuations incredibly well.

Sometimes, it does something weirder still. I'll power the monitor on and this is what I see.

Picture's worth a thousand words here. I couldn't explain it any other way. Basically, the display anomalies only factor into the what's displayed from my PC. Not the menu overlay. If I unplug the monitor and plug it back in (at the power source) everything comes back just fine.

So I guess I'm worried that something might be going bad. I've tried multiple (new) display port cables. Doesn't make a difference. What do you guys think?

Encountered this exact same problem when I first bought my Asus PG279Q (using a 980ti). But apart from the odd occasion, it stopped soon after. As you said, a quick power cycle seemed to fix it.

Is there any other difference between XB270HU and XB271HU than the HDMI port and 165Hz? I don't need 165 Hz but I do want a HDMI port so I can play PC and PS4 on the same monitor. But it's 100€ extra and I'm not really willing to pay that much more for a HDMI port, this stuff is really expensive already.

Also, does/did XB271HU have the same quality control issues as the XB270HU did?

Was just about to start raising the money to buy my new G-Sync monitor (the AOC G2460PG) and I noticed that my computer started idling at 60+ degrees. Turns out the pump on my H80i failed, so I've bought a Noctua NH-D15 to replace it.

The universe really doesn't want me to get that g-sync smoothness.

Has anyone on GAF owned or used the ASUS MG279Q? I've heard it has the same panel as the Acer (XB270HU) Predator.

Choosing a monitor is so frustrating. I despise that I'm forced to choose between Adaptive Sync a tech that should be inherent to any current high end display port compliant GPU and Gsync. I'm not a fan of being locked into a specific manufacturer because of a proprietary technology.

This might be the year I jump over to AMD after being an Nvidia user for nearly 15 years.

The 271 has speakers as well. I think they are 2W. But pretty much higher refresh speakers and a HDMI port. Not worth it if you don't use built in speakers and don't use your monitor as your console tv.

Weird, can't really explain this but...

BenQ XL2420G (G-Sync)
Steam Link

If I run Binding of Isaac @ 60hz, (Gsync on or off) there is substantial frameskip through Steam Link. Very distracting.

Switch to 144hz and there is no visible frameskip at all.

I have no idea why my monitor setting went down to 60hz, but hey, it's great that Steam Link works without having to turn down/off any settings...

Bought an Acer Predator at Fry's Electronics yesterday, took it home, and it had insane light bleed on the sides and a few dead pixels :( Returned it, tried the other one they had left in store and it was even worse - of course the sales guy told me they are just gonna sell them and most people aren't as picky as me :( made me mad/sad.

Anyways ordered a Dell 27" for $200 less on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0149QBOF0/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Hopefully it has less QC problems. I'd prefer an IPS to TN but I think for now I'll just play with this level of monitor and move to 4k OLED sometime in the next year or two.

This video of the Dell really convinced me to try out the Dell
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwIHIWyR_6M

Hopefully more of these gsync/freesync monitors make it out to stores this year. Fry's had only two g-Sync monitors and 0 freesync monitors for sale in store, and Best Buy was about the same (only one gSync i think).

Thanks for bringing the Dell to my attention. I'm slowly talking myself down from the $1k+ 21:9 models and looking into the 27" 1440s.

I'm lucky to have a Micro Center a couple miles away where they have pretty much everything in stock.

I'm with you, I'm seriously considering switching to AMD when Polaria drops because of GSYNC. Nvidia should support Active Sync.

Which one did you get? The new 27 inch (XB271HU) for me was flawless.

I'm still happy with my Asus PG279Q, although it's not flawless. There are a couple bright specs near the bottom of the screen, and a few visible specs of dust near the top.

Light bleed isn't bad at all on my unit, though. General IPS glow kinda sucks in dark scenes but the colors are so outstanding that it's worth it.

receipt says XB271HU bmiprz so sounds like its the same one. 27" 1440p g-sync model, they didn't have the freesync model.

I thought Acer did a recall on all Acer predators back in Nov of last year, but I guess cheap stores like Fry's didn't bother sending them back.

Any panel or build quality differences between the Acer XB270HU and XB271HU?

Guys?

Sorry, just might go pick one of the two up and not sure if the 1HU is really worth the extra dollars.

Cool, thanks. Will this introduce some input lag though?

So, I have a follow up question to this. According to what someone posted in this thread, turning on VSYNC in the NVIDIA control panel caps your FPS to your refresh rate which is what I want. However, what I need to know is if it will introduce any additional input lag like traditional VSYNC does or if NVIDIA is just screwy with their naming.

No additional input lag. When G-Sync is turnt on, it will use G-Sync only.

I have the Freesync version and it is a fantastic monitor, I can think of anything negative with it really.

I had a Digimate 27" 1440p IPS monitor before (and it died on me) got a replacement and then bought the ASUS monitor. Best I have ever owned.

Somewhat relevant. http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/35.htm#panels_jan
AU Optronics have some limited information available as well. There are 30” and 35” ultra-wide curved panels coming in Q3 and Q2 respectively. These will be VA panel technology with 3440 x 1440 resolution and 144Hz refresh rate which would be a first at that resolution. In fact, this would push things beyond DP 1.2 bandwidth limitations as we understand it, so this might require the forthcoming DP 1.3 interface to be practical. In other specs they panels also offer 3000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 172/178 viewing angles and 2000R curvature.
If that doesn't sound like they are made for the next gen of Gsync monitors... 30"/35" Ultra-wide curved 3440x1440 VA with 144Hz, DP1.3 :OO

So I've decided to cancel my Oculus Rift order and get a good G-SYNC monitor instead.

Has anyone got any experience with the AOC G2460PG? That seems to be the best for me, 144hz and G-Sync more than make up for the 1080p and TN panel.

I'm asking the same question. How's the monitor? Are the 200€+ worth for the PG278q?
I have one. I've had no problems, so I'd recommend it. If you can get something to run at locked 120, try ULMB too. The motion clarity is fantastic.

I will say that I think I saw a poster say he returned his G2460PG because he didn't like the dithering, but even after him saying that I haven't noticed anything. Trying to be picky here... The backlight can be slightly uneven at the edges, I guess that's backlight bleed. Doesn't bother me though and I only even see it during black loading screens.

Overall I'm very to own a G-Sync 144hz monitor, and the only downside is that my 970 ends up running at maximum fan speed with temps at 75°C trying to push 144fps. Still not as loud as a PS3 or Wii U, though. PC gaming ❤

Edit: early models had a feature that drew a crosshair on your screen, but they removed it in later ones. It took a lot of emails back and forth with AOC to finally get a tech side guy involved to tell me that. All I wanted to do was try it out.

Edit 2: While portrait mode is fantastic for browsing the net, the viewing angles mean you're better off not directly face on. The left side (normally bottom) becomes a tad dark if you do. That's not major, though.

What is the largest g-sync monitor available? I would love to replace my 40" TV in my living room with a g-sync monitor. yes I do PC gaming from the sofa. It works for me.

Nope :(

That's one of the reasons why I just moved from two 970 in SLI to one 980 Ti.

Now DSR and MFAA are back, better performance in non-SLI games and most SLI games as SLI is not perfect.

Yeah I have 2 980TIs and a 3440x1440 monitor. My problem is that in many games, dipping below my locked frame rate just feels super stuttery. Like in The Witcher 3. A Gsync monitor would fix that. But then I'd lose DSR. The lower resolution would mean my framerate wouldn't dip nearly as much, if at all. So I wouldn't really need gsync.

Recently picked up an Acer XB270HU BPRZ, upgrading from an ultra-wide that had built-in speakers. I have come to realize how convenient those built-in speakers were...I'm still using headphones for gaming, but for everything else I'd much prefer something else.

Anyone have any recommendations for small\stealth-like speakers that I could mount either underneath or even to the back of the monitor?

I dun goofed, and hoping someone knowledgeable can help me determine a solution.

I've just picked up an Acer XB270HU thinking that I could simply buy one of these and I'll be able to plug in my consoles to play. Having tried today I've only just discovered this assumption was wrong. :(

Initial research has me thinking that my only option is to either buy a HDMI to DisplayPort converter (like this) or potentially use a game capture card (like this).

I primary play PC but having the ability to play console games at my desk is critical, something which would have had me hold out for the XB271HU with HDMI if I had known. The game capture route might be a nice two-birds one-stone option to unlock game recording, but ideally someones aware of a far cheaper converter option.

As a last additional it'd be great if the output could achieve (/upscale) to 1440p/60hz+ though I've no idea if that's even possible coming from a PS4/Xbone. Assume I know little, and you'll be close to the mark.

In my experience, capture cards almost never have low enough latency to make actually playing your games through them a pleasant experience and tend to have a second or 2 or delay. Not sure about that Elgato card in particular, but the relatively low price makes me suspect it will have similar results.

They should, but that market share let's them do whatever the hell they want. It's sad it took something as niche (currently) aa Gsync to make wake up to the danger of Nvidias near monopoly.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm currently running a pair of just ok ACER K272HUL's that were on sale during the holidays. But I'm giving one to a family member so I'm looking to get a good gaming monitor as my primary. My only concern is my experience with the scaling on these monitors. With my current GPU I downscale to 1080p and because of the imperfect scaling there's a noticeable degredation in general screen image quality. Have you used the monitor in 1080p? In your experience how does the monitor handle the scaling?

Is the color reproduction for VA panels as good as IPS? That Lenovo G-SYNC is super tempting.

They generally are on par, but have have better contrast especially in regards to dark tones/blacks than IPS. The trade off us the viewing angles aren't quite as good. But let's be honest most people don't really need 178° viewing angles anyway.

Current IPS monitors are pretty fantastic though, so you really won't see to much difference.

This has probably been mentioned many times, but I need a TV with Gsync for my couch gaming!

I hope this isn't considered port begging.

I prefer how ULMB looks over Gsync but my single GTX970 cant do 100fps consistently so I stick with Gsync for now (Acer XB270HU)

I was playing XCOM with ULMB the other day and noticed a ghosting effect in areas with high contrast. Like, when I scrolled by areas lit with thin neon lights, the neon effect could be seen ghosting a centimeter behind.

I hope that makes sense!

Sadly it may be just that. It's possible we will see a TV with Freesync at some point, but Panasonic has been the only manufacturer to even put a Display Port on a TV AFAIK. I may eat crow but the chances of seeing a TV with Gsync is pretty much 0%. It would require putting a proprietary cost increase gaming hardware controller into a product not traditionally geared towards gamers.

I've been using the Dell for a couple months now, got the $550 MS store deal during Black Friday. I sent the first one back due to a dead pixel, but the new one is more or less perfect. Neither unit I had showed noticeable light bleed. The colors don't pop like a IPS and the viewing angles are not great, but I still find it more than acceptable for my usage, especially for the cost. I considered the more expensive IPS options, but the reviews on QA and build quality were all over the place. I'm pretty picky when it comes to panel imperfections so I didn't really want to open that can of worms. I also greatly prefer the clean design of the Dell to the more "gamer" oriented aesthetics of the Acer and Asus offerings.

Overall, I'm happy with the purchase. It's not the end all, be all of monitors, but it can definitely hold me over until the high end options are more reasonably priced.

Well I did it. Just as I was seriously considering it. Flash sale!

24-236-466-Z02

ASUS MG279Q for $469.99.

Fingers crossed I get a good one, I've heard it's a bit of a panel lottery and I hate sending these back.

Virtually all games support G-Sync. The developer doesn't have to do anything.

A few games support G-Sync but don't run properly with it enabled. The Deserts of Kharak electronic manual thing is one recent example I've seen. Games like this are very rare, thankfully.

Does your GPU have displayport? That is needed for the likes of Gsync/freesync. As far as I can tell if doesn't it will only do 60hz at 1080p, something worth looking into maybe. As for scaling I am not too sure i'm afraid, I think it won't look too bad, obviously not great but fine. As mentioned above my shitty DGM monitor did an alright job scaling PS4 games.

I'm really tempted to get one of those, I like everything about it: IPS, 4ms, WQHD... But I have a GTX 970, and this one has FreeSync...

Argh, seriously, I want FreeSync support on NVIDIA cards and not depend on overly priced G-Sync modules...

The fact is I want to make the jump from 60hz to 144hz. I guess a GTX 970 is nice for that. Is there something like that but without FreeSync not G-Sync? I like those specs.

Yeah, I saw that, really excited for it. The only question is how soon thereafter we'll see OLED monitors designed for gaming at decent prices.

Current IPS monitors are pretty fantastic though, so you really won't see to much difference.
Actually, current IPS monitors are exactly as shit when it comes to contrast as IPS monitors from 6 years ago. A complete standstill there :/

You mean with no Gysnc or Freesync?

You could always just buy the freesync one and not use it.

From what I can tell (from quick searching), the 1HU has supposedly a better panel, works over HDMI and has better speakers (you probably don't use them anyway). Of course its got a different design (if its better I don't know) and supposedly you can overclock it to 165hz.

Hope that helps somehow.
