G-Sync is the god-level gaming upgrade.

I have the Dell g-sync 27" 2716DG - 1440p 27" gSync - and I wouldn't recommend it. Its colors are a bit muted and dull compared to IPS panels, and you need to fiddle with its setting as out of the box its pretty awful color wise. I have a korean 27" IPS screen next to it and it blows it out of the water with color vibrancy and black reproduction.

I like the gSync part and the colors end up ok after you really sit and tweak the brightness/contrast/RGB and ICC settings but its still nowhere near as good as IPS screens.

No doubt it's going to look bad out of the box, it comes with 'gamer' calibration and 1.9 gamma default. I have mine calibrated to 100 cdm/2, D65, gamma 2.2 and it is nowhere near as bad as you describe it. I have mine sitting next to a va and an ips panel. It's 880:1 contrast ratio to ips 1000:1, there isn't much of a difference in black, the va blows both away.
 
alright, tax return came in. took the dive with the 2716DG. been running a 980ti on an old 60hz dell. hoping this will be a hell of an upgrade
 
Nvidia announced that G-sync will be available to notebook manufacturers and that in this case, it would not require a special module since the GPU is directly connected to the display without a scaler in between. According to Nvidia, fine tuning is still possible given the fact that all notebooks of the same model will have the same LCD panel, variable overdrive will be calculated by a shader running on the GPU, and a form of frames collision avoidance will also be implemented.[6]

No. The panels for G-Sync displays (even laptops) are specifically chosen for particular traits that allow them to perform well under variable refresh conditions.

It's true there's no module in the laptops, but that's because the GPU is directly connected to the display hardware using Embedded DisplayPort. eDP has abilities not present in standard DisplayPort at the time G-Sync was developed. In the laptops, this allows the GPU to calculate how and when to change the voltage to the panel pixels as refresh rate changes.

Anyone else having a problem where some games will only run at 20fps max when in windowed/borderless windowed mode? It happens in both Witcher and WoW for me.

It doesn't happen all the time, but when it's not happening the game is usually very stuttery. I've read online and lots of people seem to be having this issue, but an older driver update around Oct/Nov fixed it for them, but not me.

When I switch to fullscreen mode it's flawless.

Have you tried changing the gsynch options? Maybe it's still on Fullscreen mode only.

Well, biting the bullet - since I got a decent tax return, decided to buy a PG279Q from Micro Center. There's at least two MCs around me (and I even know the location of one of them), so if I end up having to play the panel lottery, at least I have a brick-and-mortar store to return it to.

This oughta be interesting.
 
Been running an XB271 for a few days now, definitely noticed some backlight bleeding but it's not severe enough for me to want to replace the unit, G-Sync and 144hz is beyond god-level gaming upgrade and has reignited my passion to play games on my PC.

Absolutely love that I no longer have to tweak games graphics settings for hours to try and hit a locked 60fps, just ballpark that and enjoy the game because dips are no longer that noticeable and tearing is gone completely.
 
I have the Dell 2716DG and every time I turn it off Windows makes a disconnect sound as if I unplugged a device. All the windows I had open on this one change to the second monitor. Dell is connected via DisplayPort and the second via DVI. This never happens with monitors connected with DVI. What can I do?

Edit: When I turn the Dell back on, all the windows go back to normal.

I got my icc profile from here http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/icc_profiles.htm and changed the rest to my liking.

EDIT: Could you please test the issue I described for me? I wonder if it is just an issue with upgrading from 8.1 to 10 compared to a clean install.

I think I read here somewhere that if the monitor goes into standby, this happens.

The monitor came with an HDMI cable and another one which I assume is the displayport cable (never used one before so it's new to me). Which one am I supposed to use?

Did nvidia resolve that issue of GPU power draw not scaling down if the monitor's running on 144hz? If not, what steps should I take to counter this issue?

My second monitor is a 40" 1080p Sony Bravia TV (which I mostly use for Steam big picture mode or to watch movies on). Will there be any issues of having one 1440p 144hz monitor and one 1080p 60hz TV?

Anyone have any guides/recommended settings for colors for this monitor? I heard that it's default color settings are really bad. Are there maybe any (free) calibration programs that I should use?

I just checked it and the same happens to me. I turn off the monitor and everything shifts to my second screen (the TV). I turn it back on and it goes back here. Weird.

Also, I seem to be stuck at a 24hz refresh rate and see no option to increase it in the nvidia settings. Am I missing something?
 
Anyone having the same problem with the window positions when turning off the Dell 2716DG, do the following!

  • Access to menu on the monitor
  • Go to Others
  • Disable Monitor Deep Sleep
  • ???

Are you sure it came with an HDMI cable? Mine came with a displayport cable and a USB cable, and you need to use both.

Nvidia supposedly fixed the 144hz power issue, but I've heard actual results were mixed. I'm still running mine at 120hz...

I'm running a 1080p/60hz monitor as my second screen and there are no issues, other than the fact it can be somewhat jarring jumping from one screen to another at times.

TFTCentral's profiles and settings are a pretty good starting point for fixing the colors.
 
Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I was mistaking my DP cable for an hdmi one, silly me. Anyway, my monitor turned out to be a bad unit with dead pixels galore. Sending it back to Dell Canada via my friend who is flying back in a week and getting a refund since I won't be able to get a replacement unit here for a while. Back to 1080p I go... :(
 
Really happy with my XB271HU. Coupled it with a QNIX and put them on a mount and god is it such an updgrade from 1080/60 and 900/60.

The Acer seems to have no issues, colors are great with TFT's icc profiles, and neither have any dead pixels.

Not even bothering to push it up to 165 even though I have a 980ti to push it, doesn't seem like big enough of a jump to force for.
 
Welp, PG279Q order was cancelled due to running out of stock before the order could be fulfilled. Guess I'm back to square one with figuring out what to buy.
 
I bought the Dell S2716DG and when I set it to 144hz I got monitor ghosting afterwards?? Uhh what..? I guess this one is defective..?

Edit: I believe the ghosting was caused from me putting it in fast mode for a 1ms response time? Did some research and that seems to be the problem.
 
Need a 1080p IPS Gsync monitor. Starting to get sick of games like GTA V and Witcher 3 frequently having dips to 56-57fps with vsync on, while turning it off results in 60fps or higher, but bad tearing (and borderless fullscreen tends to produce stutter in a number of games even with the framerate at 60).

It's still annoying and I would rather no ghosting. Gonna send it back and see about getting another because I've seen the reviews and most people say they don't get any ghosting..It's weird because the ghosting is worse the lower I put the hertz.

It literally doesn't exist. I want the same deal, I guess I'll just wait to OLED monitors.

I was in the same boat with the same games. I eventually gave up and just bought a 1440p G-Sync IPS and I'm really glad I did.
 
Guys, do I lose something by using G-sync Fullscreen + Windowed mode?

I've been using Gsync with Fullscreen only, but I rather have my instant alt-tabs back. I've heard there is reduced performance, but it seems anedoctal evidence at best...

I really disliked that input options were severely limited on G-Sync monitors, only this year did they start releasing them with and HDMI + display port (previously only display port).

So i went R9 390 with a Freesync monitor. I'm really pretty happy with it. I dont know how it compares to G-sync but its nice as shit.

I have the Dell one and it's amazing...worth every penny. Some people will complain that it's a TN panel but if you've only had crappy monitors before you'll never know.

The Philips is 1080p and at 27 inches it's a complete waste.
 
So I've been looking into G-Sync stuff and the Acer Predator is the one, I think.

Not sure if the extra cost of the XB271 is worth it over the XB270.
Anyone here that had both and can recommend them or convice me to get another brand?
