G-Sync is the god-level gaming upgrade.

So I've been looking into G-Sync stuff and the Acer Predator is the one, I think.

Not sure if the extra cost of the XB271 is worth it over the XB270.
Anyone here that had both and can recommend them or convice me to get another brand?
the XB271HU is what I'm gunning for within the next months. I decided for it over the XB270 because I want the HDMI input for my consoles.

That makes sense...
But the panel and picture quality are the same?

As far as I've heard they fixed a lot of the QC issues with the 271. Also depending on how new the 270 you buy is, you might get the older panels that can't OC to 165hz.

Besides all that, not much of a difference.

I do love my 271 and don't regret spending the extra.

the differences between the 270 and 271 are minimal. some 270's cant OC to 165Hz, the 271 has a few more display inputs and the frames are markedly different. there was some talk about the 271 having better QC, but I believe it's too early to tell. Anecdotally, they seem to have the same issues with dead pixels, ips glow and backlight bleed.

Sounds like it doesn't really matter which one you pick (HDMI and 165Hz don't interest me) as long as you get one without the issues.

A colleague wants to sell me his 2 weeks old 270 for 600 Euros.
He bought it refurbished for (slightly) less than that and claims that the are no dead pixels and 0 % backlight bleeding.

Will have a closer look this weekend and probably get it if he's telling the truth.

Is there a way to make gsync disengage when my fps goes above 144 fps and turn back on when its within the gsync range?
Right now I've got my my fps limited to 140 fps in all games with rtss, to avoid the input lag you get from hitting the gsync limit.
I want to play cs go at 300 fps, but gsync isn't letting it go past 144fps, there's no fps cap for cs go on rtss. I have to turn off gsync in the driver manually every time I want to play cs at 300 fps.

Yes, Nvidia added this feature some time ago. But, you will get tearing when the frame rate exceeds 144.

In the Nvidia Control Panel, set Monitor Technology to G-Sync and also set Vsync to off. With these settings, when the frame rate exceeds 144, all sync will disengage giving the lowest latency possible and allowing unlocked frame rate.

Thanks, that works.

Hmmm

Gsync is a god level gaming upgrade.

Windows 10 store games don't natively support gsync.

Microsoft is atheist, confirmed.

:p

What's the point of going above 144fps if the monitor can't refresh at that rate anyway? All you're seeing is a big number.

Started looking at some of these monitors and it seems all brands suffer from quality control. How can they be so expensive...

We are talking about cs here. 300 fps novsync has a bit less input lag than 140 fps + gsync, I've tried both for a week. It makes a noticable difference to my aim at the level I play (LEM), mouse feels way better. It's not about seeing.

In reality I doubt that they suffer from any worse quality control than any other monitor, it's just they're expensive so people are a lot more vocal about issues + the people buying them are almost exclusively the type to care about and notice things like light bleed or similar issues.

You can manually make it so that it uses a specific mode just for a specific game. It's found under the Nvidia Control Panel. Here's a picture of it:

Oh, yeah. Totally forgot about that, thanks.

On Friday I purchased a XB270HU and it has been a hell of an awesome pickup.

I've never gamed on a G-SYNC before. Or on 1440P. Or with anything higher then 60Hz before.

Most of my weekend has been playing RYSE Son of Rome / Street Fighter V / Alan Wake and boy, have I been missing out all this time.

My GeForce 780 can push some solid performance for each game and especially RYSE looks absolutely stunning at 1440p with FPS averaging 60-70. Game is glorious and gorgeous on this display.

Money wasn't really an issue for a monitor and it would have been pretty great to get a 21:9 Pred Z35, but I believe I would have had to upgrade to a Titan or something with that purchase.

I did have some problems enabling G-SYNC on the monitor (MODE was showing as NORMAL) and then losing it during the weekend. The issue: I run CITRIX RECEIVER for work purposes and when I remote into another computer thru CITRIX, it basically disables G-SYNC. You need to reboot to get it back. Troubleshooting!!!

Amazing monitor. No back light bleed, no dead pixels, just straight up stellar.

That's strange. I use Citrix Receiver quite a bit, and haven't had any issues with Gsync after using it. I usually close the background service after I'm done with a session though, since it used to minimize games randomly (don't know if they ever fixed that).

I use CITRIX RDP and I believe that is the main issue. It is very strange but I am going to test other things instead of rebooting to see if I can fix the issue in another way.

So I'm looking at getting the XB271HU soon and I was so wondering whether I should get a 980 ti to go with it or stick with my 970. Im just worried because I really do t want to buy a 980 ti only for Pascal to come out right after, and since Nvidia still hasn't said anything it's a massive gamble.

If I did I will most likely be using 1080p in a lot of games to keep framerates high, how bad does something like that look?

I personally detest sub-native gaming, so I can't say I recommend that. You could always use window mode.
The 970 is... alright for 1440p AAA gaming and will hopefully hold us over until Pascal. Let's hope the May rumor is true and Nvidia will offer attractive upgrades from the get-go. (Friendly reminder: Nvidia GPU conference from April 4th to April 7th)

Ah, OK. So I should definitely wait until the conference has finished to make a decision. I'm really hoping they at least announce their £500-tier card there, if not I'm just getting the 980ti instead.

I guess borderless windowed could work, but really I'm not going to bother getting the monitor at all until I know what GPU I'll be using with it. I'll just have to hang on a little longer.

Bought an Acer XB240H, but 3 of the 4 games I tried showed little difference in regards to stuttering.

Worked well: Wreckfest.

Did not work well: DOTA2, TF2, Borderlands 2. (I would still get stuttering in the 70-90 fps range).

Is this common? Has anyone tried these games on gsync? Are all games suppose to automatically work will with gsync?

Spec:
W10
i7 4790K
MSI GTX 970
16GB RAM
ASRock ATX Pro4 Motherboard

Thanks!

So after much deliberation and challenges I've decided to get myself a Dell S2716DG instead of one of the Acer XB series monitors. It has the HDMI I'm going to need for consoles when I go to uni, and from what I've read the only downside (TN Panel) is mitigated somewhat by some pretty good 8bit colour with the right config. I also don't want to play the lottery with back light bleed, dead pixels, etc.

Before I start saving up to buy it is there anything I should know? Impressions from anyone who owns it?

I am leaning towards this monitor myself. The HDMI for consoles works for me since I have it in my office and I life bringing a 360/xb1 in there sometimes. The ASUS/Acers sound nice, but also a bit of a lottery and I don't like that idea (despite having a good 278h for a number of years, I've also had some icky experiences with "RMA until it's good enough").

I look forward to seeing more peoples thoughts on your monitor choice :)

Hello GAF,

I need a new screen, and I was thinking of splurging for a g-sync. Any recommendation for something which has:
- g-sync
- good image quality (do I care if it has 4ms lag because of IPS? I don't think so, but I am not sure)
- No gaudy gamer design. If it has LED or a silly logo on the bezel, I am not sure I can handle it (I realize it sounds stupid, but I can't help it)
-higher than 1920 resolution

Should I go with the Dell? Seems some people are disappointed with the image quality in this thread? The Asus XB270 look pretty good (XB280HKb? XB270HU?). The Xb271 are even better it seems, but god the design went dumb.

I sorta regret owning my Dell 2716DG, I have a korean 27" IPS panel right next to it but NOT g-Sync and the cheaper Korean blows it out of the water color wise. Even with extensive tweaking and tuning its not close AT ALL, the IPS is bright and vibrant and pops whereas the Dell is duller and blacks don't look as good and colors are flat.

That said I went through TWO Acer XBs I bought locally and bought had horrendous bleed issues, after I traded in the second one I just said fuck it and went for the Dell, totally happy with gSync and no bleed issues.

Honestly if I were you I'd just wait for something better to come along, my Dell is going as a hand me down to a nephew later this year as soon as a better gSync IPS comes along. I won't be buying TN again. I don't really game at all on my PC except for plans with Oculus Rift, so its not really a huge issue for me right now. This is all off a nvidia 970.

The Acer XB270HU is a no brainer. I have one and I highly recommend

Literally the only things keeping me from buying an Acer or Asus IPS is those QC issues. My current monitor is dying fast (ghosting issues getting worse by the week) so waiting around isn't really worth it. I might just get a decent but cheap IPS as a stop gap whilst waiting for someone to make an IPS panel that isn't a £550 lottery ticket. Really big shame to hear about the bad colours, after thinking about it I don't want to spend masses on a monitor with mediocre colours.

The Adaptive Sync market has become one of the most frustrating tech markets to buy in right now. I'm fearing that it's going to stay this way for a while, there aren't any XB or ROG competitors coming out from what I've heard.

My xb270hu has been doing a weird flash of bright colors on the screen when I turn it on. Its used to just flash the acer boot screen but now it does that and then flashes like 7 different color screens and just keeps going till it gets a signal

Like of the computer is off and I just turn the screen on it will show the Acer logo for like 2 seconds and then just keep flashing test colors until I turn it off or turn the computer on.

Edit: figured it out held the two closest buttons to the power button and it stopped.

This will seem like a weird question but are there any issues setting a G-sync monitor at 60hz? I presume above 60fps the monitor just turns on v-sync?

I'm considering getting an AOC G2460PG. I'll be coming from an Asus VS248H-P. Can anyone comment on any image quality difference I might notice? Obviously I will fall in love with g-sync, but are the two comparable otherwise?

When the new GPUs hit I'm gonna be one and a way better monitor. I skimped on the monitor and GPU as placeholders for new stuff. Probably later this year when my bank account has recovered.

Bought an AOC G2460PG today. I'm mostly impressed with it, especially with newer games, but I have a couple of questions.

For older games where frame rates exceed 144Hz, is there anything I should be doing? Previous to owner this monitor, I would limit my fps to 60 in RTSS and have vsync on globally. Can I literally just set gsync on and turn off everything else?

I played Diablo III and Starcraft II with just gsync on and it looked awful. I was getting lots of stuttering.
