G-Sync is the god-level gaming upgrade.

I just got an Acer XB271HU. Glorious display (slight backlight bleed but otherwise perfect. I don't notice it at all except with a camera). I have a weird problem though. With my 680 (which will be replaced soon) I can only activate 120Hz max. Is this because of my old card or is the monitor faulty?

Old card. 1440p144 is 586MHz dot clock and 680 is a 540MHz RAMDAC.

Finally upgraded my ancient Samsung to an Asus PG248Q. Loving the 144hz/G-Sync combination. Being able to lower settings to push framerates into the triple digits or max everything out and not be bothered as much by the occassional framerate drop is fantastic.

My only complaints are with the panel itself - the backlight uniformity is worse than I expected from a TN panel, much less one this expensive.

The photo exacerbates the effect somewhat. It's not really an issue in-game, but is quite noticeable while web browsing, watching wide aspect ratio video content, or in loading screens. Is this typical or should I be looking to return or exchange it?

I have same monitor and backlight looks pretty much the same as in your picture. Some youtube reviewer mentioned about this too. I guess it's a feature more than an issue.

Thanks for the reply. That's a shame, but I think I might be willing to put up with it for 144Hz/G-Sync at the price I paid.

Same as my old 760, noticed it when setting desktop Hz. After upgrading to a 970 the 144/165Hz were available.

So I found out that a local Costco was selling the Acer XB271HU for $599 so I dragged a friend out to pick one up today. All I've done is open the desktop and it's crazy. I tried telling my wife that even dragging windows looks so much better. She probably thinks I'm crazy. Now just need to upgrade the videocard and I'm all set.

I see a XB271HUC for $599 at my Costco. Is that the right one? How are your montiors doing? I might go impulse buy this if motivated.

Oh yes. I've spent the first few minutes when I got my monitor twirling my mouse over the screen. So goddamn smooth.

From the research I did the monitor is the same one and the letter is meaningless. From what I found it happens with some monitors where the box indicates extra letters not found in the product name. I didn't find why and maybe that is wrong information. If anyone has a better answer please feel free to inform us.

Either way, you recommend it? I'm about to go with my brother and use his Costco card to get one

I'm thinking about getting a G-Sync monitor but I'm conflicted on which one to get. I'm aiming for a 27-inch, 1440p IPS monitor.
So far I narrowed it down to these choices:
Acer Predator XB271HU
ASUS ROG PG279Q
AGON AG271QG
ViewSonic XG2703-GS

I also heard Samsung is releasing some G-Sync monitors later this year but I don't know when. Should I wait for those or just pick one the ones I listed?

Those are pretty much the only ones on the market too, lol.

You could hope that the new monitors this year will have fixed the issues that were seen across all those AUO panels.

I've been going deep down the rabbit hole on the same four for the last few weeks, and I've been starting to drive myself crazy. Knowing that there's a high likelihood that they all use the same panel, I've given up my comparison search. If there are issues, I'll address them if they are deal breakers, but after spending the last ~5 months with my PC hooked up to a 5 year old 55" 1080 TV, whatever I get is likely to look amazing.

Personally I'm planning on going with the Acer, but I do not believe you can make a wrong choice among that four. It sounds like they get slightly less complains on back light bleed, and I think the stand looks pretty cool. I like red. ;)

ETA: just got back from Costco. They had 4 in stock, now they have 3. Was curious if it was the TN or IPS, it's definitely IPS for $599. Couldn't stop myself.

So I finally jumped into getting a G-Sync monitor. NewEgg is having a daily deal today with the AGON AG271QG ($579.99) and I couldn't resist. It should be delivered by March 28th, I'm looking forward to experiencing G-Sync for the first time.

I already have a G-Sync monitor, but I'm curious about non-Acer and Asus models since they tend to be cheaper. I'd love to hear your impressions of that AOC AGON model.

I did some light research on this model and it seems to be a pretty solid choice, especially since it's on sale right now. I'll let you know how it goes! I'm upgrading from an 1080p HP Pavilion 25xw 25-in monitor so I'm really looking forward to this, hopefully everything goes well.

Sweet baby Jesus I finally felt the glory that is G-sync... I can never go back to anything less. I sadly could only afford a 1080p screen but that fact that it is G-sync more than makes up for it. Even just browsing the net with 144hz is amazing but to have the same smoothness in game is unreal. Why was I so cheap before and suffered through years of no G-sync.

Is anyone playing Andromeda with a G-Sync monitor ? I get well above 60fps with a GTX1080 but I still get some stutter. I think the games has some frame pacing issue.

Try turning off the Origin overlay. I had stutter on a 1080 like you describe, and disabling the overlay solved it for me.

My AGON AG271QG arrived today (wasn't expecting it till Monday) and I'm impressed with it. The monitor and the metal stand feel solid and there's no defects on the screen. I had to calibrate the colors a bit but other than that it's looking very nice.
As for the G-Sync, I tried out a few FPS games that I play often, such as BF1, Titanfall 2, Overwatch and others. I can definitely feel a difference, everything is silky smooth now. I'm looking forward to trying out more games and see how different they feel now.

Good to hear. It would have been nice if AOC and Viewsonic got into the 27"/G-Sync/144+hz/IPS train earlier to provided an alternative to the more expensive Asus/Acer branded monitors.

Either way, I've been incredibly happy with my XB270HU.

Anyone with the Asus ROG Swift PG278Q 27 inch having a random clicking noise come from their monitor occasionally? Experienced this with my Samsung TV and it was the transistors dying.

One question regarding Gsync. Currently I have a Gsync laptop (75 hz max) and am considering also to replace the desktop monitor as well with a Gsync one.

But I am confused. Eg on laptop I do not see many games going above 60 fps, even if I disable vsync in game.

Eg 2.5d fighting games like UMVC3 and GG Xrd Revelator, the in-game frame counter remains at 60. Turok 2 remaster as well.
Surprisingly only Sonic CD reaches 75fps.

Majority of games I play are capped at 60fps and below, including also emulation. Is it possible to disable that limit and will game work without issues?
Is there any benefit or am I better off with adaptive sync on desktop (1080gtx)?

As for the fighting games, those are pretty much always locked to 60fps. That's the framerate they were specifically designed for.

Hey GAF help me make a decision. I have about $100 saved up in gift certificate.

Right now I can get the Dell-S2716DGR for $399

Second choice would be the Acer Predator XB271HU which I can get for $499 right now. (This is the TN panel version not the IPS version despite what the name says)

Third choice would be the Acer Predator XB281HK which I can get for $600. (Also TN panel)

Im planning on getting a 1080TI down the line just for reference. Is the Dell S2716DGR worth getting over the Acer 1440p one? I know the only difference is TN vs IPS screen. Unless there's something else I'm missing.

IPS for just 100$ more? IPS over TN anyday.

Yes I also get some stuttering in Andromeda besides hovering at about 80 fps + G-sync.

I will try the origing overlay deactivation later.

I know, but the XB271HU comes in two different variants.

A TN and an IPS panel. That's $200 difference between them.

That's new, and actually confusing. It used to only be the XB270 was their TN equivalent to the XB271 IPS.

AFAIK, Asus is still doing it right with ther 278q being TN and 279q being IPS, exclusively.

Yeah, so Best Buy should fix the description on their website or they are going to have a lot of angry customers

Heads up to anybody who's looking for this monitor. At least at my Costco it was marked down to $499.97. We still had 5 in stock

What's the best way to lock framerate on PCs?
RTSS still the king, or is NVidia Inspector framelimiter V2 enough?
I'd like to have GSync enabled in game, but I'd much rather the game didn't exceed, say, 135 Hz at any time.

Waiting for my Acer XB270HA, should arrive any day.

My question, similar to what Iced asked, how does it work on multi-display setup? I'll have: G-Sync monitor, Standard 60hz monitor and a TV.
Can I play a game on g-sync monitor and browse web on the 60hz one, at the same time? How will it work on TV, since now I'm duplicating my output when comfy couch gaming.
Is it possible to duplicate only one monitor to TV while keeping other for different tasks? I'm on Windows btw.

I have a hori G-Sync monitor and a vert 60 Hz one.
No problems with browsing on the secondary display while playing, but you might need DisplayFusion so that clicking on secondary screen won't steal focus from your game window.
No idea bout TV output.

Best way if possible is ingame limiter, doesnt add inputlag.
RTSS is "best" from programs I guess but it adds input lag.

To those IPS people, I get it. However, the quality of TN panels have gotten way better. There are also shitty IPS panels. The Dell D2716DGR is a great value. It is often under $500 when on sale.

Say 1 so we can check.

I cant find any D2716DGR, do you mean D2716DG?
