Yea it'll be Ab Soul but I think Q won't be too far behind. Wouldn't be stunned if Kendrick and Jay Rock are the last of the original group left on TDE in the next few years.

This has really been a blueprint for how not to run a label/sign to a major. Kendrick is fine, Q is fine. But Ab Soul and especially Jay Rock should have had 2013 releases. Kendrick crushed the building, he had the spotlight on him for months. It made no sense to waste that shit by not getting two more artists out the gate too. You have to strike when the iron is hot. Especially Jay Rock, coming off a memorable appearance on the biggest album of 2012.

I'd be really curious to see what the overhead and budget looks like because it really seems like they don't have the money to operate like we expect them to operate. These dudes are in the studio all year yet don't release shit. That has to be expensive - at least for the non-Interscope members. Nor are they touring nonstop. Something is fishy.

It will forever be funny to me that Isaiah, of all people, got the best non-Kendrick TDE project.

He the only one out the crew I'm actually excited for their next move.

Sad really.

Q & Isaiah are the only ones I feel push their own weight outside of Kenny.

SZA is always around tho

still looking forward to 7/10 Jay Rock.

my problem with rodeo is none of it's catchy
none of it
the closest we get is "piss on your grave" and thats because it's stilly/stupid

wasted starts out great, even a great flow from travis but then he goes a fucking beat changes with a fucking interlude in the middle of it garbage

pray 4 love comes close but again its on some Thursday era Weeknd shit where it just kinda..meanders. Which works for abel because he's a god damn singer but Travis is boring piece of fake cardboard

nightcrawlers beat is shit but rae sremm try their hardest props to them

maria im drunk is great but still has this 100% unneccesary intro

These are some examples but this is how it is through the whole album. It's so far up it's own fucking ass. Even 3500, probably the most straight forward track on the album has beat changes (at least subtler drop outs).

Compare to even something like Days Before Rodeo and it feels like a step backward. I know some of y'all love this shit but there's a difference between making a dope instrumental, with highs lows etc (s/o to all the dope scs out there) and a difference between a great song. Travis seems to think if you stick a beat change 1:20 in it's now automatically great or interesting.

There's nothing on Rodeo that hits the same level as Mamacita, Drugs You Should Try It, Skyfall, Sloppy Toppy or even Don't Play.

I know Esch likes to take shots at Kanye for the same shit but there's a difference between song outros and a fucking beat change every 60-90 seconds which this ADD ass album is full of.

what? nightcrawlers is a damn catchy song. shit been stuck in my head since the leak. beat is on fire too. all 3 came through on that track.

you have a point with the rest but that track would look good on any pop-rap album. 3500 chorus is so hype but i don't like the constant beat switches on that especially. it should keep up with the energy that the chorus has. it goes from uptempo to super down tempo. future about to fall asleep on it and shit.

The intro on Maria I'm Drunk and Travis on general on Pray 4 Love (best song) are great.

But yeah, generally the album is overdone and the exaggerated critiques people usually have for Ye are actually valid here. Its not really comparable to DBR in vibe so I don't intend to compare it as such for every song. Inversely I can say DBR doesn't really touch the places Nightcrawler, 3500, etc. touch.

Can't argue with this. Sad thing is that Rashad's next project is gonna be held for more than a year, just watch. Q might not even get a 2015 release date, which will only delay Rashad more.

What's funny about TDE is how relatively little work they could have done to take the top spot again. Riding off the Kendrick Hype or just even releasing albums on time and properly promoting their artists.

It's like... almost more effort for them to find new ways to disappoint their fans.

TDE had nothing until Q and Kdot showed up. Black Hippy was all Q's vision back when they were making mixtapes the fell like pebbles in an ocean. Now that those two have blown up, they don't know how to marry their two styles anymore. They only push them as solo artists, leaving everyone else behind that was supposed to "make it" along with them. TDE let the whole team fall apart of early gains.

ehh i think a lot of it is catchy. travis just wont sit on any idea for more than about 2 minutes. so its like hes playing musical darts. i dig it but if he wants to get bigger he needs a "no" man.

whaaaaaaaaaat
no way, i still gotta hear it. too many legends.

Man they started off with this playful 10 minute freestyle between the three of them which was great... but since then Tip has just called D'Angelo and Andre 3000 on the phone to talk about Funk music :-/

Spinning some nice tunes in the background though still
