List will probably change by dinner. It's just shit I currently have in rotation.

Oh, it's that time again. Top 10, phew. Hard as hell. For every artist in the list I'd want to pick 2 albums, really. But I'll try anyway.

1. Slum Village - Fantastic Vol. 2
2. OutKast - Stankonia
3. Common - Be
4. The Roots - Do You Want More?!!!??!
5. Madvillain - Madvillainy
6. Jay-Z - The Black Album
7. Little Brother - The Minstrel Show
8. Nas - Illmatic
9. Kanye West - Late Registration
10. De La Soul - The Grind Date

This album's production is practically flawless. TBH I can't really make a top ten list there's way too many albums I fuck with heavily for me to narrow it down.

just tried to make a top 10 and I couldn't do it

shout out to De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising and Run-DMC's Raising Hell though

Okay, Cilvia Demo is really smooth. Strange that slept on it completely. I somehow always associated it with CyHi The Prynce (don't know why) and wasn't interested.

Yeah, agree. I mean, that would be like me putting Days Before Rodeo in my Top 10. I'm still bumping it a lot, but will it be relevant in a few years? Nah (probably). I doubt anybody will listen to DS2 much in 5 years either. Most of my Top 10 is pretty much still on regular rotation.

Trap classic gonna trap classic.

I'm sorry but this is an L.

I can't think of any artist who released a moderate to big major release without a tour this year (not counting irrelevant soundcloud rappers like Thugger). Big Sean toured, Travis toured, Joey Badass, Drake, Cole (technically 2014 release but still).

Kendrick started the spring/summer by doing festivals, which wasn't a bad idea. But the lack of a TPAB tour makes no sense. My only explanation is that TDE shot for larger venues and realized Kendrick couldn't sell them out. What other explanation is there? Maybe they stubbornly wanted him to only take TDE artists on tour, instead of going for a Kendrick+tier 2 artist+Vince Staples tour for instance.

They're fucking up, again.

damn, all this Death Certificate love almost makes up for MBDTF

invite pls

it's called Destiny, and for 59.99 USD plus tax, you too can join.

ya'll 2 were onna A list, check ya messages

Lately, my college campus has a bit of a problem with Xanax too. It's sad that people don't realize that mixing it with alcohol is asking for your heart to stop, apparently.

is this for real? totally know people who do this, fuck

You know...to think about it, GAFhop could have at least put the superior In My Lifetime Vol 1 album on the wall.

i mean, of course you'd ride for that over blueprint/reasonable/black album etc haha

10. Jedi Mind Tricks- Violent By Design

some really interesting picks, but ive yet to get through a whole JMT album
i feel like i would've in the early aughts/backpacker days but now i dunno, might feel forced...could be wrong here

10. De La Soul - The Grind Date

man, stankoania as your best outkast is one thing, but this is a really...interesting pick, over the rest of their discog and all

super safe list

yeah mine'd look a bit like this honestly

3. Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
4. Organized Konfusion - Stress: The Extinction Agenda

wasn't expecting these, nice man

8. Cudi - MOTM II

i mean...for real though

10. Big L - Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous

esh/PD comin for ya bruh

Tupac - Strictly for my N.I.G.G.A.Z.

damn, i used to play this tons in the day, but just kept going to keep ya head up, i get around, papaz song etc...lotta stuff i found skippable but its been forever

10. Nujabes - Metaphorical Music

just like that, esh fucked my whole shit up - i have to separate these in my mind, or i need like 3 spots for nuja, uyama hiroto & fat jon right off the bat, damn

also fam how do you feel about the shinobifist spin on these things - i.e., he argued Forever > 36 for refinement/etc, part of me feels that way with Black > Reasonable...thoughts?

This is an interesting choice. Pac has a lot of great songs scattered among shit albums (I just can't listen to any of them from start to finish) and this is by far ''his'' best project.

yeah, i think this is why most go with Me Against (versus say All Eyez which i think has higher highs but far too much padding/Outlawz overall)
but still, doesn't a greatest hits still feel kinda like cheating on a top 10 album list?

Agreed. It's probably one of the best "Greatest Hits" albums since the Earth Wind and Fire 3 disc compliation.

yeah, got that vinyl in poor condition from my boy but still love it

7. Fat Jon - Wave Motion

yooooooooooooo

if i had to go:

ATCQ - Midnight Marauders
Wu - Enter the 36
Nas - Illmatic
BIG - Ready to Die
GZA - Liquid Swords
Cube - Predator
Snoop - Doggystyle
Ghost - Supreme Clientele
goddamn i need an Eric B & Rakim greatest hits/combo of their first 2 albums
fuck this my list is too safe here's some other junk i like dammit whatever

Jay - Black Album
Blackstar
GKMC

Nibels' troll list is impressive for leaving off the obvious LASERS nod

Black Album instead of Reasonable Doubt Irish, whew

TBH I love RD but listened to the Black Album way more

exactly - RD has mad love & influence but i just revisit black album to this day. if i had a dollar fo reverytime i referenced PSA, i could pay these student loans

TBA has more duds than RD and Blueprint tbh (Moment of Clarity, Change Clothes, Allure, Justify My Thug).

higher highs, and i dont consider most of those (outside justify) dudes personally
if im really inclined to cheat, some of those tracks are fantastic on the many mix albums that resulted too

lmao

My most recent all time top 10 is from a GAF-Hop thread ~3 years ago. Most of it hasn't changed so I'll use that with some alterations

No order because it's hard enough to narrow down a top 10 much less rank these

Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
Organized Konfusion - Stress: The Extinction Agenda
Dr. Dre - 2001 (the first half is so gotdamn good the medeocre 2nd half doesn't matter)
Cunninlynguists - Oneirology
Ice Cube - Death Certificate
Method Man & Redman - Blackout!
Redman - Muddy Waters
Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle
Ghostface Killah - Supreme Clientele
Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx

ATLiens or Aquemini have always had a weird way of floating in and out of my top 10 depending on how much I like Cuban Linx at the moment as well.

I dig the Wu Tang Forever > 36 Chambers refinement argument tbh

its got its merits - like, i love the shit out of Ironman but I gotta go with Supreme personally. there's raw early works and there's sometimes masterclass later shit, you know?
as a biggie stan i think that's one of the big losses, looking at (for me) a top 5 album like ready to die and wondering what he might've put together on a later work

Method Man & Redman - Blackout!
Redman - Muddy Waters

fuuuuuck good picks

You think that until you remember Nas hasn't come close to his own '94 debut in over 20 years.

Sometimes, dead is better

I'm the dude who really likes Street's Disciple over other Nas albums. The only De La albums I've intensively listened to were the two Art Official Intelligence ones and Grind Date, that's why. The older albums are definitely good, but they are a bit too flowery. Stakes Is High is great, too, from what I remember (the Dilla-produced title-track is a classic).
