Death was the best thing to happen to Pac/Biggie. Now they can be idolized instead of getting flabby and sick on some Jay-Z shit. "He had a spark when he started..."

TBA has more duds than RD and Blueprint tbh (Moment of Clarity, Change Clothes, Allure, Justify My Thug).

Biggie's music would have aged terribly. He'd be making AWFUL music if he were still alive, rip.

You got cats in the underground all the way to Rick Ross trying to emulate the boy's swag. Big would still bless us with untouchable songs to this day.

Second time this is mentioned. I might give it a try. The only Cudi album I listened to was the first one. Was the soundtrack of my final school trip after high school. His recent stuff was wack from what I heard.

You think that until you remember Nas hasn't come close to his own '94 debut in over 20 years.

Sometimes, dead is better

...well, shit
he's had some great albums, though. better alive & at that than not right?
wait, ya'll are serious tho

I'm the dude who really likes Street's Disciple over other Nas albums. The only De La albums I've intensively listened to were the two Art Official Intelligence ones and Grind Date, that's why. The older albums are definitely good, but they are a bit too flowery. Stakes Is High is great, too, from what I remember (the Dilla-produced title-track is a classic).

even as a native tongue head i didn't fully appreciate de la for years, and that's just one i didn't spend much time with...might revisit, despite t he streets disciple nod

Biggie's music would have aged terribly. He'd be making AWFUL music if he were still alive, rip.

how exactly? what we do have from dude (non-posthumous releases) bang to this very day. granted, he prolly would've teamed up with a quarter of the wack MC's busta has over time & i'd rather he'dve slid back than either try to match trends (crunk, ringtone, trap etc) if they didn't fit his style but past the obligatory roast-a-sacred-cow shit outchea i don't know where this comes from.

dude's flow/charisma/storytelling alone would've carried him past jay's current struggle-rap era, long as he had something to say and didn't limit his production. granted idve hoped he woudl've mostly retired by now but still

Kid Cudi - MOTM II

there it is again

I'm surprised that three people picked Cilvia Demo for their top 10s.

me too - great album for sure, but it feels like a weird pick to see in so many top 10's here
then again some are calling future's work a 5-peat so stranger things have happened

Yo if I'm being honest though, I'm about to knock off one of these traditional top 10 albums for Covert Coup

im okay with this, and so is CRS

Pete Rock & CL Smooth - Mecca and the Soul Brother

this one literally crossed my mind, yeah
wanted to give this and return of the boom bap nods at least

How the fuck is Moment of Clarity a dud, this is ridiculous. The second verse is straight up the realest verse ever written and justified every time a new cat get famous.

Edit: frontin on Cilvia Demo too, I just can't.

Much appreciated brehs
& PBY, if Isaiah blows up and keeps his consistency your posts in this thread will be considered sacrilege. Repent & Relisten

MOTM II is very polarising to be honest. It has some outright awful and embarrassing songs, but it also has most of his greatest work imo. He also has a couple songs I listen to from his post MOTM catalogue (The Dream Time Machine, The Resurrection of Scott Mescudi, To Bad I Have To Destroy You Now)

from what i remember the best track was the dilla produced one that i cant barely recall and i refer to the first three albums as "flowery", because i think one of the albums had a flower or something like that on the cover, my deep rap thoughts dont come cheap though, so this ones free.

Change Clothes is that shit he's sprinklin to keep the registers ringing

it's so obligatory and non-offensive (now that we're a decade + past hearing it on 3 stations) i can't see raising it as a point of contention

Allure sounds like a nursery rhyme played on a Fisher Price keyboard, with some weird ass bomb sounds thrown in.

Change Clothes...scust. At least tell me yall aren't cosigning the idea that the song changed fashion trends...

wait covert coup was good but i was thinking of russian roulette, my bad

I'm about to put that one in as well. It has turned into one of my favorite listening experiences in hip-hop. Amazing samples and sequencing.

OK fine, what's the point of making new top 10 lists every few years if not to be as in the moment as possible. More changes for future reference.

Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
Organized Konfusion - Stress: The Extinction Agenda
The Alchemist - Russian Roulette
Cunninlynguists - Oneirology
Ice Cube - Death Certificate
Method Man & Redman - Blackout!
Redman - Muddy Waters
Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle
Ghostface Killah - Supreme Clientele
Currensy - Covert Coup

Can't wait to come back to this in a few years months days and change it again :D

This is good.

You did good.

Oh and the only version of Allure that matters is the Kno remix from The White Albulum. Turns it from one of the worst tracks on The Black Album to one of my favorite Jay-Z tracks.
