Looking for impressions of the new D12, if anyone's heard it.
Only skimmed through it but I thought it was decent especially the first few tracks.

If you guys were to make a top 10 list of Eminem songs from Encore - present, what would your lists look like?

Shorter or blank lists are reasonable.

No order:

Deja Vu
Beautiful
Bad Guy
Headlines
Evil Twin
Guts Over Fear
Not Afraid
Rap God
Mockingbird
3 AM

Something tells me these Future and Thugga tapes are gonna be weak. Rushed projects with tons of filler.
Thugger / Migos sounds like it'll be a bunch of unreleased tracks from the label's vault like those Gucci Mane collabs they did last year. 😴 A good example of why quality control should matter.

Songs I liked or used to like from encore to present:
Encore - evil deeds, yellow brick road, toy soldiers
Relapse - 3 am, we made you
Recovery - on fire, no love, untitled
MMLP2 -

The only Eminem songs I genuinely think are great:

Infinite, Stan, Rock Bottom, Say Goodbye Hollywood, Lose Yourself, perhaps The Way I Am.

Stan being the best of course.

Rabbit Run is the GOAT Em track. The only post-Encore song of his that I enjoy is Underground.

I'm of two minds about Kendrick saying he won't be performing TPAB anymore. On one hand, it feels like an incredible cop out; dude makes one of the best and most culturally relevant mainstream albums in god knows how long and is basically throwing it under the bus rather than celebrating it because performing it won't pack stadiums. At the same time, K.Dot is an important artist to have in the mainstream since his style is pretty singular and forward-thinking. Obviously doing a ton of small venue shows is not conducive to maintaining a spotlight and in the end, I'd rather not see him transition to catering to a small, insular fanbase.

Either way, I'm just glad I got a ticket to the Oakland groove session.

Is Erick Sermon really up there with the goats (premier, Dre etc)? What albums should I be listening to?

on a semi related note, Redman is one of the most underrated producers ever. I always though that Erick Sermon did all of the beats, but I was shocked when I learned that a lot of the beats were done by Redman himself (at least starting from the 2nd album)

Infinite (the song) sounds more like this.

Yeah, you're right. You can imagine that Eminem listened to Nas (Illmatic) and AZ (Doe or Die) every single day while he was writing all the tracks on Infinite (album). Add in a bit of Kool G Rap (4, 5, 6).

EDIT: I just learned that Infinite album (1996) was produced by Mr. Porter (Kon Artist from D12). Nice.

Tried to take this seriously because why not. Used only tracks where he was main artist (no Bad Meets Evil, no Em features, no Slaughterhouse collabs, etc.)

1. Deja Vu
2. No Apologies
3. Baby
4. Music Box
5. Seduction
6. Untitled
7. Brainless
8. Love Game (feat. Kendrick)
9. Rhyme or Reason
10. Buffalo Bill
11. The Warning
12. My Darling
13. On Fire
14. Despicable Freestyle
15. Hello

I wouldn't say all the way up there but he's definitely got undeniable classics to his name and is definitely a legend.

EPMD should be mandatory listening and his solo albums fair well enough.

Nah, not really for me. Predictable. But if you like his style then you'll love everyone of his tunes. Much like Havoc of Mobb Deep's productions. Each very similar in style but if you love it then that's you.

Slime Season 2 is SENSATIONAL. Oh my fucking god how could this son a a bitch release an even better album? Like with Barter 6, it clicked on me instantly. Every single track bangs, even the one I hated on that Instagram snippet.

I will listen to it a few more times without the hype, but oh my god it's fucking good. Primetime Thugga going all in.

Hey, I'm new. I registered a while ago, but I think this is my first post.

Musical Tastes

1. Historically, beast coast, but now I don't commit.

2. Is high-pitched-soul-sample-rap a subgenre? If yes, that's it. If not, I don't really have one.

3. In no particular order: Biggie, Ghostface, Nas, LL Cool J, Jay-Z. Boring, I know. It's probably not entirely accurate anymore, but that's my default list from my youth.

4. That changes frequently. Right now, in no particular order: Transit, The Lawrence Arms, Tinashe, Spraynard, Texas Is The Reason.

5. AOTY 2014: YG-May Krazy Life, AOTY 2015: J. Cole - Forest Hills Drive or Fashawn - The Ecology.

6. The last Hip Hop album (unless you insist on calling him a singer) I listened to is Fetty Wap's album.

7. I've always liked Ja Rule. I don't really care what backpackers think though, a hot song is a hot song. As for the second question, Canibus always put me to sleep before I could really listen to anything he released.

8. Let's make this easy and pick Kanye: 1. Late Registration, 2. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, 3. College Dropout, 4. Graduation, 5. Yeezus, 6. 808s & Heartbreak.

GAF-Hop Discusses

1. I really like the diversity. When I was a teenager, distribution tools and promotional platforms were more limited, which meant only a certain type of artist was really successful (not saying the others weren't around if you looked for them). That has changed and I think that is a good thing. What I don't like is that, in some cases, the quality of "songwriting" (with that I don't mean the verses) and production, has gone down a bit.

2. Ghostface, because of his consistency. I also really like GZA and Inspectah Deck. But in the end I like them all.

3. Jay-Z (although Illmatic is better than any Jay Z album), Biggie, Young Thug

4. YG's next album.

5. Fresh Prince, Eminem (I guess).

6. Like groceries?

7. Both, with balsamico dressing.

8. No. I think most of his music has been horrible since the Eminem Show, and I wasn't a big fan at that time either. Not saying he's a bad rapper.

9. Right now, Lorde's probably my favorite. Finest? Now that you ask I realize that I only know how most current pop artists sound, not look.

10. It was all good just a week ago.

By the way, is there a thread to introduce yourself?

If Kendrick won't perform it live again he should assemble the whole production team for one night in la. Record that shit in 4k and put it out.
