.....so there's a rapper named Syph now lol
tl;dr - He's a garbage, metrosexual ass nigga lames on the internet feel peer pressured into liking but won't actually listen to, much less support outside of the forums they post on to feel like they're up to date with rap (remember drill rap?).
So many words saying nothing of value. #BlessYoungThugThere's some truth in this, but there's some space to explore.
Gotta give Young Thug some credit. He has a great ear for beats, is extremely productive and has a strong work ethic, and on a rapping level has established himself as the true evolution and heir to Lil Wayne style wise. He has some great singles, and overall I enjoy his projects. Whatever you say about him, nobody's really doing anything his way better (yet).
On the other hand, I find the aggrandizement of his artistic merit (like in that trash Des post) funny af . Why would anyone buy a Young Thug project or buy into him hardcore as an artist? His content is super super pedestrian and honestly bland. There's always this talk about him being a game-changer for rap gender norms wise, breaking all the boundaries etc. Even outside of the straight up gay/queer le1f and co scene there are mainstream rappers doing numbers above him dressing and acting effetely (ASAP, Kanye) . It's amazing how much pro-LGBT credit he's been given for a couple 'pause-worthy' punchlines and a couple gram videos with some ambiguous lines about dicks.
What content is he putting into his music that's so laudable from that perspective? Does he have any songs or projects specifically about struggling with perceptions of masculinity and/or homosexuality? Basically what I'm asking is, has Young Thug ever addressed any of this supposed gender convention smashing on any real, direct, meaningful level? The answer to that question is no. Does Young Thug's music have any content that addresses anything on any level? Personal? Societal/Cultural? No, not really. Musically doesn't really set himself apart on a from any of his trap peers aside from his flows.
I really shouldn't even be effort posting about this, because when you get down to it you can basically sum up his entire career in one sentence:
beats hot flow straight check out this bar with them dicks haha
Thugger the best in the game right now

you know Thug gonna be second rapper of the year after Future tho
You have to ask for them, that's why.can someone tell me why the fuck Dre dont supply KDot with any beats?
Even Game gets some and he aint on Aftermath no more, like wtf
you the famThugga GOAT
I enjoy listening to Thug here and there but I find him kinda bland too. Idk I feel like he has to keep his output up, cause unless you're hardcore into him, you just sorta forget about him. He has to stay in the public eye or fade.
That's not really an insult. Credit to him for being able to stay on the scene for so long, I thought he'd be a novelty that would wear off (he still might be *shrug* )
I don't get bland at all, like I don't even know where you're coming from with that
Meaningless Provocation isn't necessarily Art. Thug is playing around with ideas, fer sure. But he's not really saying anything other than "look how sexually ambiguous I am." You mentioned The Sex Pistols, well...they rose and fell pretty quickly and they had a bit more to say (not much more).
At this point, it's blandness in the sense that there is so much going on that it all fades. Young Thug's style is bland to me not because nothing's going on, but because there's quite a bit going on without anything actually happening or being said. That's bland to me.
How do you feel about future?

He's growing on me. I had the same feeling initially, so I mean this isn't a set in stone opinion on either.
That's fair enough. I'm starting to feel like future gets more of a pass for his nonsensical meaningless lyrics than thug for whatever reason which is the reason I ask.

Stick Talk tho. Otherwise I agree.March Madness > DS2
March Madness > DS2

It's hard to argue against DS2 as Future's best project of the year, but...
March Madness
Trap Niggas
56 Nights
Diamonds From Africa
...are all -tier Future. I feel like Beast Mode gets slept on a bit, it has the most distinct sound out of the four imo, but it doesn't really have any major stand outs like 56 Nights. It's crazy if M2 comes out this year since we'll have at least several more tracks in the mix.
