Its a more consistent album than Goblin. I also think Tyler has stepped his production game up with this album.
With Wolf I can listen to it from front to back without nary a track I want to skip, not the same with Goblin.
I also think his whole "horrorcore" (for lack of a better word) shtick was getting tired, and I'm glad he's toned it down for this album. He's still fuck the world and I do what I want, but without so many references to rape and killing babies or whatever. Not that I had a problem with it in the first place, but like I said, shit was getting tired.
Wolf shows his growth as an rapper and a producer. His songwriting has gotten much better.

I'm trying to decide currently if I like this better than Bastard. As it stands right now Bastard is still #1. That album fucking blew me away when I first heard it. Shit was so fresh and new and different at the time.

Edit: I'm also a sucker for Pharrel, hes one of my favorite producers of all time, and Tyler is really showing his Pharrell influence on Wolf.

That's what's important to me about Wolf is that it shows clear growth and a desire to improve. I think it bodes well for his future.

For the reviews I'm going to say

Somewhere in the 7s from PF, no lower than 6.5.
Christgau won't review it.
3 from Rolling Stone.
4 or 5 from the needle drop guy.

EDIT: B or B- from AV club.

Big names. But only 4 of those appeal to me. I'm sure there will be plenty of material though.

Yeah I think 8 is a good score for goblin, maybe 7. It definitely has its cringeworthy moments but it was a very hyped release and I'd say it delivered on that hype. Tons of people were discussing it and enjoying it when it released. Wolf, on the other hand, had little excitement. Look at all the people who were reluctant to even listen. There's a few solid tracks sure, but if it hadn't come out I don't think anybody would be complaining

Lost in kush clouds and obscure foreign vinyl.
He seemingly smoked his brains out. I wasn't feeling most of the stuff he released in 2011, when he did like 11 albums or whatever. I like loops but his stuff just got boring and lazy. When you're making literally 20 beats a day it's impossible to have quality control, especially when you're dusted all the time.

But the beats Gibbs has chosen are fire. I hope DOOM did the same for Madvillainy; some of the previews sounded kind of meh.
