Let's be real, his first album did as well as it did for 2 reasons:
a) Poetic Justice - mainly due to Drake and the Janet Jackson sample
b) The community desperately wanting to get behind him; all the cosigns, the desire for "lyricism" to make it's way back into the mainstream, all hugely benefited Drick, and he rode that wave to become king of the new school.
I agree a lot with point b.
A lot of guys who focus on lyrics and writing decent songs but somehow it seemed like the industry itself chose Kendrick to push him to the big stage to be that next big guy.
Not that he fumbled it, in fact he excelled, but its funny.
And good lord you guys are obsessed with legacies. Almost write fan fictions about what will happen or might not happen. Just enjoy the music. Who cares about all the etc conversation? Seems like some people care more about everything about the artist besides the music.
I like alc, I do. But he's over hyped in here imo. Great producer no doubt.
I haven't listened to yeezus since it dropped, I really have nothing better to do so I'm gonna put the album on.
I keep thinking maybe I should listen to it again since all the music mags are ranking it #1 or #2 but I can never give it a full listen anymore.

kendrick has already written a ton for detox. A lot of people have.Considering that it sounds like kendrick wrote Dre's verse on swimming pool.... and Dre sounded good on it. I wouldn't be surprised if Dre might tap kendrick to co-star (write) detox ...... if it happens. It would be the ultimate Aftermath co-sign for an artist going forward and would get them a platinum Dre album as well.

I think Dre will continue to fuck with Kendrick. It's not a coincidence that Kendrick has started working out and getting in shape. It benefits his health, but I also think it was meant to get closer to Dre to a degree. Plus Kendrick went plat without a single Dre beat, unlike a lot of dudes he has worked with...

Swimming Pools was huge though, I don't think Drake carried Kendrick. With respect to your second point, he definitely had cosigns from the entire industry and Interscope's machine behind him. But it's also worth pointing out the album was really fucking good and garnered universal acclaim throughout the music world. Plus he had Cali behind him, which ensured big sales.
I concede your points on Swimming Pools. The issue I have with his rise is how reminiscent it is of 50's. People getting behind a dude just because of the vacancy of AAA artists in his lane. 50 was hyped to hell and back with the gunshot stories, the beef with Jay, and people were starving for a young NY street presence to get behind. 50 showed throughout the rest of his career that his number 1 priority was getting his, I'm pretty sure Kendrick gives more fucks about his music, but at this time, his direction is pretty ambiguous so *shrug*. It's an issue of, maybe we were too anxious to hand over the crown to someone.

I have seen it. I don't post that often but I always read the thread. Plus I have seen PD's sensational fan fic in the poli-gaf threads.
I just find it odd. I get that unlike any other genre, rap is very similar to sports but fans getting on teams and being so worried with legacies, charting, and all that other shit is just weird.

Not all the shit he says is stupid either. I think it's easy to play off how he's saying it as scatterbrain (or to mimic some stereotypical angry black guy reactions; which is half of what he's mad about in terms of perception) but there are real issues behind what he's saying, mixed with some that are unrelatable (money, status) as well.
