to play devil's advocate: what about sports aren't a tangible product that can be used within one's home? some dudes put up banners/etc and their whole social life revolves around people banding together to watch a game

Yeah I'd go with that as being the only example off of the album really. But most of the features? Nah.
In retrospect, MNIMN has really come down a few rankings in my AotY list because of said features.

Its easier to talk about sports and get emotional than it is to talk about your life and get emotional. Also Its sort of a reality barometer in my opinion. The more somebody denies the reality of a game/team the more you can get a feel for their decision making ability.
Yeah Mos embarassed himself but it was a long time coming if you had saw mos before. I remember a show he was on there with Cornel West (who isn't above feeling himself intellectually way to much either) and cornel had to walk all of mos statements back to the point they made some sense. Hitchens who is a snob regardless of how smart he was just saw easy prey and tore him apart. Like Mos was talking from a POV that doesn't trust the government (especially republicans) but in the end of the day without evidence it was just as rational as birthers crying about Obama.

I really under-appreciated Shad's Flying Colours. Great album. He manages to be a conscious rapper without the corn. Plus hes got that flow/delivery like Eminem that is so listenable. It could get even hip hop's biggest hater to become a fan. Love flows like that. Progress is track of the year contender.
Starlito is the rapper that's pushing all the right buttons for me currently. Something like Gibbs when I first heard him.
Oh, and I was listening to midwestgangstaboxframecadillacmuzik the other day and I think it's still my favorite Gibbs project. I love almost everything he makes but he has yet to surpass that album for me.

The Big Sean and 2 Chainz features come to mind immediately as the bad ones wish it was Kanye on there like it was announced. Wonder how different his album will be I remember Push saying its not going to have any features.

Meh, Nas like Jay has had little ego driven spats/subliminal back and forths with plenty of emcees. Cam, 50, Pac, Prodigy, Mega, whatever man. I dont read a lot of stories about Nas doing lots face to face battling/old school freestyle type stuff. That's never been his wave. He's an observer and a writer when it comes down to it.

I was talking about Busta but I'll agree with what you said about Nas. It's probably due to the fact that Large Pro got him in the studio when he was still a kid. Nas skipped the battling grind phase people like say Jay and DMX went through.
