Mecklemore Is My Favorite Wrapper
Same Love takes that shit to another level. Brings in a completely different crowd, or just expands the one he was starting to get.

I'm sure. But he was going platinum in an age where plat records don't fall off trees. It absolutely opened him up to the mommy demographic, but it's just factually incorrect to suggest his success is based of that track. In fact, there are plenty of people who were upset at him, so it probably lost some of the fans in the beltway who thought Thrift Shop was just a fun little song.

The new Rick Ross and Freddie Gibbs are fire.

Also finally got around to listening to both Flatbush Zombies mixtapes and Vic Mensa's Innanetape. Both are very, very good.

Hit the Jay-Z show in Houston last night. The amount of hits he has is really crazy. One thing I noticed is the audience was about as diverse as I have ever seen at a concert. Rich people, not as fortunate people, every race, young, old was in the house in a big way.

I had been to the WTT tour, but never a solo Jay-Z show. So I got that under my belt, and I think I am done with seeing him live. While the production was great, the stage was nice, the sound was awesome, it was just a cookie cutter show for the most part. No local guests coming out, not even Bun B for Big Pimpin'. I get it, with such a big show and timed visuals, you pretty much have to stay on script, but damn.

It was cool though, I had a great time. Just not something I need to see again.

Another Houstonian. Hit me up if you go to any other concerts. T-Guy and I went to a couple of concerts together.

Lol, I posted it, but I think people will notice you posting it more than mine.

I liked it. It reminds me how disappointed I was in Seventh Seal.

Rakim needs to make a solid album with quality producers.

My bad lol. And yea i liked it. Rakim needs to roll back the talking flow a little bit though; just feels like he's reading facts off a piece of paper now. No soul.

Saw Kanye at the Palace last night. Unreal show.

I realized he isn't just insane.

And he isn't just playing the game of pretending to be insane.

He's insane enough to play the game of being insane.

That's the best way I can describe Kanye atm.

Was the Palace sold out?

I like that Kendrick article. 2014 needs to be huge for him or else this year will be seen in a different light. He toured with Eminem and Kanye, controlled the hip hop narrative with one verse, and got 7 Grammy noms. Dude has the game wide open. I hope he doesn't fuck this up.

Then I realize that nearly every verse he has done this year has been stunning. That Fredo verse is insane, he crushed the building on Pusha T's album, killed Eminem on his own shit, etc. He sounds more confident and aggressive now, whereas much of GKMC was monotone. You can tell he's beginning to understand what works live, and it'll make his music better.

I'm a cynic though, so I'm still expecting a disappointing single that leads to an underperforming album. Still, he has the chance to do something crazy again. The question is whether he's going to be stuck in the hip hop diminishing returns spiral like everyone except Drake and Wayne, who constantly to platinum.

Of course he's not insane. He's just an asshole.

I'm gonna guess diminishing returns. Jermaine Cole 2.0.

Before GKMC came out I was expecting the same thing. A mediocre album showing no growthh. I hoped that wouldn't be the case, but I fully expected to be disappointed. Instead I got my AOTY and saw the exact growth I was hoping for. It he surpised me once im willing to put faith in him doing it again.

Also unless my numbers are wrong. Lil Wayne is on the downturn sales wise and popularity wise. His GOAT hype certianly isn't anywhere near the level it was a few years ago and I don't see nearly as much stannery for him as I used to. And I feel like carter 3 was fucking massive while carter 4 was significantly less of a deal.
I mean don't get me wrong he's still bigger than 99% of rappers out there but I definitely feel like he has peaked and is in the trail back down now.

??? Coles new shit did better than Kanye's and has had radio play all year.

Sold less than his first album though. Sideline Story is over 700k, Born Sinner is around 600k. Not bad obviously considering the album hasn't been out for a year, but it's a similar trend to every non Drake/Wayne rapper. Obviously Carter IV sold less than the previous but it still went plat.

Kendrick has an advantage by being from Cali, where he could probably sell 200-300k albums alone. Still, I expect a sales dip at which point Drake will start talking shit.

Interesting . still feels like Born Sleeper still has better and more successful singles though. Maybe J cole just has no promo.

As much as I believe trying to have a convo with kanye is probabably a bizarre nightmare of frustration and confusion, I've always imagined that diddy is hands down the worst person to try and have a conversation with. I imagine him completely ignoring everything you say, cutting you off and talking over you the whole time, and just basically having a long idiotic conversation with himself that you are expected to just be a spectator to.

Drunk random thoughts brought to you by siddx while sitting in a bar at 4:07am.

I mostly agree with your first point except that I actually liked Section.80. I was more surprised at GKMC being even better.

As for the bolded, I've seen you post that a couple times. Are you awarding it AOTY retroactively? Cuz uhh...

1. Killer Mike - RAP music 4 points
I've never been a huge fan of El-P's rapping but I loved his production, and I've never been a big fan of Killer Mike's beat selection but I love his voice and flow. So here we have the perfect example of two strengths cancelling out weaknesses. El-P really stepped it up too, giving us the kind of beats I would have never expected and yet sound distinctly "el-p". He took a southern feel and gave it an almost haunting vibe. I feel locked in to this album when I listen, for those 50 odd minutes, this album is all that exists. I love every single track on here, it's been a very long time since I could say that about an album.

2. Kendrick Lamar - GKMC
3 points
I didn't like section.80. I thought it was extremely mediocre and tedious, with only a handful of bright spots. So I had zero expectations for this one. More of the same shit I figured. Except Kendrick did exactly what I hoped he would do but never actually expected him to. He evolved his style and sound without simply trying to sound like whatever happened to be selling at the time. It’s a way more intelligent album than s.80 and more importantly it’s an album of such superior quality it’s remarkable. With only small missteps along the way (the complete shit hook on Real, not splitting up sing about me and dying of thirst, the fact that now or never even exists) Kendrick has me excited as hell for whatever’s next.

He's gonna have to make some "Dear Momma" "Keep Ya Head up" level shit to keep the numbers up.

what's up with plug tonight?
