The reason I listed him is because he's the most overlooked by people who say they love hip hop. It would be G Rap, but people endorse him pretty often as one of the most gifted men to ever hold a mic. On the other hand, 40 only really gets love from people on the west coast... But he has a crazy flow, has had a great range of sound in his career (unlike G Rap actually), and can write a good variety of songs, better than most people who get thrown up in top 10-30s. In fact he gets a strange amount of hate, mostly from people who are east coast type stans. fuck those people.

I think the first time I ever argued with someone about rap was about E-40. I was arguing he's a terrible rapper.

Opinion not much different today. The way he emphasizes lines does nothing for me really, and always came off as trying to make shit sound more impactful than it really is. There's a real transparency to that, and that always has overshadowed other aspects of what makes him unique/noteworthy in other respects.

Someone said it in here before best, he's a legend but not my legend.
