GAF, is there anything better than replaying a GOAT on a different platform for this first time?

I'm playing Dark Souls Remastered on PS5

I've beaten it on PC and Switch. Maybe Xbox. Can't recall if I beat It on it.

Never on PlayStation

Also never beat NG+ on any platform

But something about a favorite game… starting a new… like it never gets old or boring

What are games you do the same with? Surely I'm not alone

What's a game you're happy to boot up on a different platform and somehow it feels fresh and unexplored?

I have it on XB360 and PC plus the remaster on PC.

Is it good on PS5?

Well. It's a 2018 remaster on current gen. Yeah. It's def good lol 😂 60fps and all if that's what ya mean. But shit I'm sure my steam deck runs this beauty at 60fps too.

It's a top 5 GOAT to me. My heart lives in Firelink and I'm using my topic as an excuse to talk about it

The good version...also, the remake isn't on Switch.
True 😎

Can't imagine why it wouldn't be. Unless it's capped and needs a patch.

This is what sucks on consoles. All consoles. Devs cap fps and when a new console comes along, it can't just brute force its power. Needs devs to do it.

I'm not sure I would but same game again unless there is significant change on different platform.

I if want replay it I just replay it same system that already own the game.

On SW1, it targeted 60 and hitched below it in busy scenes

I actually hope the Cube version gets added to NSO. So many Halloween opportunities there with RE:Remake, RE4, Eternal Darkness, Fatal Frame, and Luigi's Mansion.

But each system has its own Cheevos. No. I'm not a "hunter" of those by ANY means

But it's that hit of dopamine that on a new platform makes that game feel new and fresh and like it's the first time again

It's why I own

Dark Souls on

360
Prepare to die PC
Remastered on PC
Remastered on switch
Remastered on Xbox
Remastered on PlayStation

I'm obsessed

For me it's waste of money, only re-buy same games if there is actual change or I no longer have system to play it like (Muramasa).

I was jazzed about playing Mass Effect Legendary Edition on my Steam Deck after playing it at launch on console. I was more excited about it being portable than I was about it being a fresh playthrough on a different platform. Same for Detroit: Become Human.

I've played RE4 on Gamecube, Wii, and Switch now. Also Ocarina of Time on N64, Gamecube, and Switch. Metroid Prime on Gamecube, Wii, Switch. I can't help myself when it comes to some of my favorites.

How I feel

Only a very select few I'd do this for. I commonly see many say RE4

For me it's Dark Souls 1

Among others too. But yeah

Switch/2 don't.

Ninja Gaiden 2 and all its versions plus in the collections on multiple platforms.

Metal gear solid 2.

Resident evil 4.

Honestly it may be better to answer this per franchise for me. If it's god like with high replay value I've usually double dipped minimum. Franchises that come to mind:

Diablo
Path of exile
Resident Evil
Souls games both by FS and not
Doom games

Replaying games Ultrawide as well on full 4k+ with 120 hz g sync in full hdr bliss has been game changing for me if that can count. Has blown my mind when was replaying RE:4

  • Dark Souls
    • Assets were hamstrung by 720p
    • Framerate wasn't even a solid 30, so 60 on PC is glorious
  • Resident Evil 4
    • RE4HD on PC is definitive. Nothing else comes close.
I tried 4 on PS3 again a couple years back and the IQ and framerate were both awful. I'm sure the OG on a CRT would be fine though.

Remastered is the worst version of the game. They botched the lighting and atmosphere on many places.

Either play the Prepare to Die edition on PC with the Durante fix or the remaster on Switch (it's different from the remaster on other systems and way closer to the original game).

If you can't play any if those, there are mods that fix the remaster on PC.

Because your comment makes no sense in reference to what this thread is about.

Can you elaborate or explain since I must be retarded?
OP asks if there's anything better than replaying a [great] game on a different platform for the first time.
I say there's many things better [for me] and as such [replaying a [great] game on a different platform for the first time] doesn't register as a top moment for me, not even once.

FFXII was one of my favorite games ever. LOVED it originally on PS2. Went back and played it on Switch remastered. Even BETTER than I remembered. I've also had that feeling playing several other amazing games with much better performance. Most of the souls games.

I love Ivalice. I think the absolute best jrpgs ever made come from Ivalice. There is nothing like returning there. I can't fucking wait for FFTactics remaster but we NEED Vagrant Story. We need it like we need a Bloodborne or RDR2 patch on PS5.

Ah that makes sense. I am retarded.

My best gaming experiences mostly come from some hellish moments in life when all I needed was a bit of escapism to be able to deal/endure with the shit going on. No other medium has allowed me to completely immerse myself in another world like gaming. Of course, it's better to enjoy games together with a stable life, but some of the intensity is lost that way lol.

Whether I read, watch a movie or listen to music there's always that 25-30% of my brain that's active and needs stimulance. Which might be why I love snacking whilst watching movies. But with games nearly 100% is activated and stimulated. There's probably some diagnosis or word for this.

I think i played every version of MGS2/3. Had a blast replaying 2 on Vita.
I prefer it over 3 because top down camera works better and gameplay is more fluid, don't have to pause and manage things.

Streets of Rage 1/2 on 3DS awesome stuff.
I didn't care about 3D effect before but in the Sega ports was fantastic.

I'm playing Yakuza Kiwami on Steam Deck Probably do the Switch version on Switch 2 at some point. Some games, you just love the journey.
