THPS is much better than skate

You're convincing me, I might have to reconsider and get it. I got an old copy of 4 before the remake to see what the goal system was like, and it's cool, but I think I would enjoy the smoothness of the new product.
I don't want to mislead you with regards to your experience with THPS4. It does not have mission structure of 4 (you just tackle objectives on your own) and half of the goals unlock after you beat the game. Also, zoo and skatepark were turned into competition levels. Carnival and (Matt Hoffman's BMX) Chicago stage were ditched all together. The game is more of a reimagining of what would have been if THPS4 followed in the footsteps of the series. It is a perfect remake of THPS3 though.

P.S. The timer option is under mods in options menu.

I think you had to be there for the cultural phenomenon that was THPS when it came out. It was Wii like penetration. This was a time when gaming was still a hobby and not just an assumed default activity for every breathing person, but it brought over all the kids who didn't play video games. I was a senior in high school and it took over. Really hadn't seen that much penetration since Mortal Kombat. THPS 1-3 are really untouchable. The 3 after that were in the tier below. Anything after that is just cash in slop.

Skate was alright. It never hooked me though.
Tekken 3 had that effect as well.
