HP Mafia would be cool, I've been playing lot of those in the past, the setting of the books work really well in mafia games imo.

I've been wondering of the setting for a mafia game, still not 100% sure if I'll try to mod something in season 4. One theme I have in mind is JRPG's. Not just any jrpg, but all of them in general. The story-texts etc would be making fun on the JRPG cliches, same with the roles.

Please do, I'm sure themed games are fun if you know the source material but they cause a lot of pointless speculatory talk as well. Some of the PRs get a bit overbearing to fit the theme as well. (Plus I've never heard of... most of the suggested themes)

I mean the game still works and is great, I don't want to seem ungrateful to the game runners. I just personally feel that less specific themes work better.

Even though I don't have any interest in hosting a game, I had nothing to do so I tried writing some fluff. This is what I managed to come up with in about 20 minutes:

It is new years eve 1958, it was supposed to be a great party, one that could get your mind away from the unstable situation in Rapture. You had the time of your life, great drinks, great music, great women, everything was amazing............ until the screaming started. Splicers, armed to the teeth and looking more like zombies than human beings, began to storm the party scene. By some kind of miracle, you and 19 other party guests managed to flee into a nearby restaurant, locking yourself in. Looking around, a sense of relief washes over you. There is plenty of food and drinks to sustain the 20 of you for months, and there is only one entrance that is now sealed off, the only other way in is a bathysphere dock, but the service has long been stopped. But then it happened, suddenly it became pitch black, the splicers have cut the power. And a voice, more animal than human, speaks: "hahahaha, you think you are safe in there? Oh nonono! You really think we didn't have some of our people already present during the party? Yeeees, they are now there with you, indistinguishable from real guests. And after they slit your rich throats, we will feast on your delicious ADAM. See you soon! Well, you won't see me because you will be dead! hahahaha" Terrified, you take a look around the room, when your eyes are drawn to the bathysphere dock. Maybe.....no, that would be a horrible death, crushed by the pressure of the outside water, and how do we know who are the splicers? But, if you do nothing, you will die for certain! One by one you look at your companions...........................

Would you kindly vote on who dies and who lives?

My Gravity Falls game would be a form of Role Madness where everyone is Ordinary Town, and there is no Win condition

Rapture would be an interesting setting. You could probably have a pretty tame ruleset as well without resorting to role madness.

I've actually been giving a bit more thought about your write-up and about a Bioshock theme in general.

You could take another interesting spin on it, and reverse the story; the Town are actually all ADAM-addicted splicers, and the Mafia are a handful of regular, unaugmented, hardened survivors waging a guerrilla war against them, emerging out of hiding to try to get to a functional bathysphere in a last-ditch attempt to escape the city after the civil war. Lore-wise, the Mafia/guerrillas hide in plain sight during the Day by wearing costumes and masks like the splicers do, trying to scout the best way to approach the bathysphere terminal and eliminate all the guards.

There could be a Plasmid mechanic in the game; the Splicer Town could have a handful of unique power roles who can choose to change their power depending on the Plasmid they choose to inject during the Night and use, with the rest of the splicers just being unarmed, Ordinary Splicers relying on these few combat splicers to protect and provide ADAM for them. Each Day, the group chooses someone among them to lynch; lore-wise, sacrifice for ADAM because it's in short supply and the splicers aren't afraid to cannibalize their own for it.

The Win condition for Town splicers is to kill all the Mafia human survivor guerrillas; however, the Win condition for the Mafia is unique: assassinate all the Town Power roles and Mafia/humans instantly win once these are dead, as lore-wise, since the combat splicers are dead the ordinary, weak splicers have no one to harvest ADAM for them, and they die off.

Therefore, it would actually then benefit the Town splicers for everyone to claim to be a power role in public during the Day to help mask the identities of the combat splicers, thus making it actually beneficial to Town if you role-claim as a power role out loud; fitting in with the theme of the Mafia humans being guerrillas amongst the openly-roaming Town splicers.

Thus, everyone role-claiming out loud would actually be a help to Town :D

Interesting idea, like I said I don't want to host a game yet, so there is plenty of time to come up with fun things. For example, an Atlas role that instead of killing people at night himself can enslave another player to do the kill for him, and that player would not know it, and the "slave" name/kill action will show up when investigated, not atlas himself. Could lead to some fun situations.

It was harmless! If someone asked me where to learn about Mafia I'd link them to the wiki, my game or not my game.

I want to do a hong kong action cops and robbers mafia. I was thinking of Sleeping Dogs and Infernal Affairs and it gave me some fun role ideas.

I'd be up for hosting a Doctor Who mafia, but I'll save that for season 5 since Night Vale mafia is too perfect for me not to participate in it.
