I'm British/Australian/grumpy/a crab. I speak English/French/tiny bits of Greek/Latin/crab.

If I'm still alive, I most likely won't be around for NX day phase start. I know you guys like to construe that kind of shit as some suspicious activity, so I'm letting you know ahead of time.

I was thinking more of a Mafia Tavern we could stand up. You come in, order a drink, and everyone around you starts yelling at you and judging your entire life's choices based on the drink you ordered in addition to the harmless comment you made to the guy next to you about his alignment.

I'm a boring white American dude, but you probably already knew that.

I Wouldn't say boring ;)

So, this is probably the extension of my desire for playing a simpler setup, but what's the general consensus with the forum Mafia community on open setup games where all the potential roles are known from the start? Kind of interested in how a game would go where both sides start with a better understanding of what is going on.

John McClane

You are aligned with no one.

You are a 1-shot Vigilante. However, if you manage to take out a German with your shot, you receive a machine gun (HO HO HO) and become a 3-shot Vigilante.

zatraube is austrian????? thats like .... the evil twin ! :O

Evil?

Didn't Karkador already run such a game or at least planned to?

There's a mathematical point where an open game guarantees a town win because all roles can claim immediately, and you can just slowly lynch all duplicate claims.

I've considered having a list of roles that I've taken from, but players don't know how many or which roles from the list.

My werewolf game will probably just link to a specific wiki and every role will be from their list.

This was my plan with the semi-open cyberpunk concept. I'd like to see games explore design space that's not just more roles and unique mechanics.

Wow, you guys really know how to go to dark places with innocent comments.

It's alright, Palmer. I'll start that club with you. I'll think of a good name for it.

I'm in for Die Hard mafia. I'm John McClane, obviously. Palmer can be that annoying guy at the party that gets himself killed.

I've already seen that Ouro doesn't like RNG. What is the general thought about this? As I got it from this Wiki, 75% doctors and similar aren't that uncommon. My BSG setup might contain a central RNG element.

It's not that they are uncommon, I just prefer strategies that are based on definitive actions rather than luck.

Or claim a power role and then talk their way out of being counterclaimed.

IIRC roleblocker can block mafia NKs in this set-up. Also, confusion as to which set-up was picked.

Right, but why would a mafia roleblocker block another mafia? To gain cred?

EDIT: It looks like there's no town roleblocker in the setup, so I don't see the point.

Oh, good point. Haha. I guess so they could gambit that it's the other game with the town RB and that they are him? That seems incredibly risky, though.

EDIT: Nevermind the other one uses Mafia RB, too. Fuck I don't know.

I'll be the guy at the end of the bar yelling the loudest.

Nevermind, I'll be here for the day start.

#ScumMetaStrats

That's what I thought, I've got my eyes on you.

UNVOTE

Here are game ideas I've been mulling about-

1) Death Note (~9 players) - open roles, hidden names, one killer, programmable deaths, players vote to temporarily jail rather than kill. Everybody can potentially die in one sweep.

2) Hamelin (~13-15 players) - Pied Piper theme in a Werewolf-ish theme/setting, with rats instead of wolves. Pied Piper role would be an open Neutral role with secret motivations. A return to child-killing?

3) 2001 A Space Odyssey (no idea yet)- Players vs a HAL computer on a journey to Jupiter. Pushing buttons on large switchboard of shit that can go horribly wrong. Really weird, passive-aggressive mayhem

I've got a few ideas that I've been drawing up. Maybe I'll get a Season 4.5 game going or something later.

I'm having withdrawal now that all of my games are done
