Ok, here are my picks for the categories:
1. MOST LIKEABLE CHARACTER Tali: Mass Effect 1&2
Shes great, in a cute and awkward sort of way. Shes also pretty good in combat and provides some interesting dialogue. She seems like the most
alien character to me, and through her you sort get both etic and emic perspectives on humanity and relationships.
2. MOST OVERRATED CHARACTER Cloud: Final Fantasy VII
Cloud is so boring for a badass. He says some cryptic stuff and then is off brooding or something, and is credited as edgy and cool. I dunno, I liked him in FFVII but hes crammed in so many other games and shit that hes become overrated.
3. MOST WORTHLESS, ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, CHARACTER Edward(Gilbart): Final Fantasy IV
Ugh. Hes weak in combat, self-pitying, and he looks stupid too. One of his abilities is "Hide" where he hides from enemies; the ability also activates automatically when he's in low health which is often. He is the "Spoony Bard", eternalizing his lameness forever.
4. MOST COMBAT PROFICIENT, NOT NECESSARILY MOST POWERFUL, CHARACTER Geralt: The Witcher 1&2
Geralt of Rivia is a highly skilled killer of men and monsters alike. From stances to battle preparation through alchemy to magic to manipulative interaction with people with his silver tongue. The depth that this guy will go to defeating his target spans from detective skills to genetically augmenting himself. Geralt is definitely the most combat proficient character in any RPG.
5. MOST INTERESTING AND/OR BIZARRE CHARACTER Therese and Jeannette: Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
In a game full of interesting characters, this one takes the cake for me. Damn they are so cool. Jeanette and Therese being total opposites of each other and fooling everyone around them that they were physically two separate people was complete batshit to me. I went crazy at the point where Therese is trying to kill Jeanette and you have to save one of them in quite possibly one of the best dialogue trees in the entire RPG genre. Also, Thereses mission, the Oceanside Hotel one, was bizarre and scary as hell.
