Maybe if you and Captive spam it enough times a newbie poster just might pay attention to it.Again, there's a camera equipment thread that can better help you.

This is true. I only know there's separate threads for both cause I'm active in both of them.nobody reads OPs anymore.
I did some fucking around in Lightroom.

Trust me it was intentional. I'm not that bad at Lightroom. A photographer I know showed me how he tinkers around with his B&W's and I've been experimenting with it every once and a while. It does make for some interesting results.I feel like you're over doing it on the contrast bit. With black and white you *do* wanna have dark darks, and bright whites, but you don't really want a lot of the photo to be either over or under exposed. *In general*. Obviously if you're intentionally doing that, it does give it a look.![]()
The model I just finished shooting with said she has trouble getting photographers because they either want to do nude work or deal with younger people. God damn that's fucked up.
Did you crop out the top of that ear or was that how you shot it? I like the colour version better either way, the eyes are more engaging.---
Question - I started and finished two separate edits of this photo and I like both. I'm not sure which I should go with. Does anybody have suggestions/preferences?

Been a while since I've taken any photos, it's one of the things I want to stay consistent with in 2016. Some random shots I took today.
These all look great, really cool lighting on the figures. The dog is cute as a button.
I really like the last pic with the two cars and the city skyline, just a shame that concrete barrier isn't a little lower so you could see more of the buildings too.Went to help a friend who was taking car pictures for a client, so I took some few snaps myself, too.

Such a photogenic dog, that one looks great too. The lighting really adds to the figure shots too, I think it is a cool effect.Thank you! Been messing with some different lighting for inside shots, took a few more. Plan to do a self portrait with some unique lighting as soon as I get over this bug I have, I feel terrible right now, haha.
I am completely obsessed with dog photos. I take pictures of random peoples dogs all the time, they probably make up half of my flickr uploads.
I'm always tempted to do that in NYC, but I can't dive that fast (I'm not Solid Snake) and well I'd get stepped on I'm sure of it.Lol me too. I love all the strays wandering around China. I'm always crawling around on the dirty streets trying to get nice low angle pics of these mutts. Dogs are the best.

That is one of the reasons I love having a tilt/flip screen, makes composing low angle shots so much easier.

Fantastic pics man!
Random question, does your friend have a Miata with Renown/Mazda 787B livery?
I know the guy myself and I could swear he's been up on that rooftop doing a shoot before haha.
On that note, I really need to get access to a rooftop to do a proper shoot with my Miata. It's been a year since I did a shoot with it and it's about time to do another one since I've gotten so much better at this.
Actually, I just need to go out and shoot stuff... been working on other stuff the last few weeks my camera has been sitting inside the bag with a dead batteries lol.
Nope, not him. Are you in Houston? This was inside the loop, but it was a parking garage for an apartment, so we had to get access in there.
Shooting in monochrome (versus conversions) has completely changed the way I look at things. Without being able to color I have to focus on shape, texture, DOF, and gradients. I'm taking less photos of people and more of objects.
^ That guy with the stripe shirt... it's a setup isn't it?
Lol.
Yeah, having your viewfinder in BW can make a HUGE difference in the shots you take. It's pretty wild really.
Just being at the right place at the right time. "The more you're taking photos the luckier you get."

A lot of people that use that model mayhem site are creeps, it certainly has that reputation at least. If you ever look at the modelling section on craigslist it is the same thing, heaps of guys with super creepy requests.
Shit, hopefully I can make a name for myself as one of the only people on there that doesn't force or require nude work and then eventually just get off Model Mayhem, yeesh.Model Mayhem peaked a few years ago. Most of the decent people have moved over to other social media (FB, IG) to fill the purpose MM used to serve.
I could easily write a book on all the stories about creeps models have told me.

Cosplay stuff is definitely something I'm interested in doing. Good job.
This is amazing, Koriandrr! I don't know why, but it reminds me of Tilda Swinton, which is certainly a good thing!

Same. Will be going to C2E2 here in Chicago in 2 months with some Gaffers, plan to take lots of photos. And dress up myself, haha.
That's how I see it as well, it's just fashion stuff with a different theme to it, but I can't find models that are into cosplay.Thank you! I do see it more or less as fashion photography, as it's mostly about the clothes and hair/makeup rather than anything else. I do some fashion photography as well, this is kind of... expanding the same-ish horizon, in a way.
Judging by the focal lengths she shot wide and must've been practically standing on the subject. One suggestion would be to give your model more room in the frame. It feels very confined.
"Photo of the guy on the highway overpass holding a heart."
Yes.Was that in San Francisco? Whenever I carpool with my brother back from work, I always see a guy dancing around waving a heart.
Thank you! I actually think the cosplayer (Charlotron Cosplay) will be super flattered!![]()

One tip for going to cons with the intention of shooting: check their photography rules. I'm not sure about over there, but some major cons in the UK actually ban you from using external flashes and too much equipment, as it's too crowded as it is and it causes a lot of spaces where people can't move around much (or that's the official statement anyway).

I keep forgetting about the crop factor of your camera. At least you could zoom out, with me I would've been screwed until my new lens comes in. I couldn't imagine shooting that stuff at what is essentially 75mm.Well, keep in mind I also shot with a micro 4/3, but yes, this was shot in a tiny room. I'm not surprised it feels like it, but I'm sure I can 'fake' it better next time, thanks!

Yeah I'm starting to learn how important wider lenses are as well. My new lens is a 2.8 17-50 and I'm contemplating getting Sigma's 1.8 18-35 Art lens as my next lens as well instead of Nikon's 85, cause it'd be really narrow on my camera and I don't always have the space for that. The 1.8 85mm might be my third lens though. Depends on money of course.wide lens is up next on my list. It's the only thing I'm really missing and it's such a good thing to have, especially for conventions where you lack the space. But honestly, for portraits and 'beauty shots' I really prefer the 75-80mm range (dslr terms). And I absolutely LOVE the sharpness of my 40-150mm (micro terms). It's beautiful![]()
