GAF, recommend me some Tv-Series

What are, in your opinion, the best new series (in the last 5 years or so) around?

I've been looking for something new to watch with my wife, but nothing seems to capture our interest... the last one we watched and both enjoyed was The Punisher (already watched all the Marvel Netflix ones), previous to that one was the latest from OitnB - this one not so much because we were liking it, it was more because we just wanted it to end.
We're watching This is Us on a weekly basis, but i'm looking for something that's out there that already has a couple of seasons, so we can watch 1 episode per night.

We started watching Black Mirror (talked about it in S4's thread), but after watching the first 2 episodes we both decided it wasn't for us. After that started The Leftovers, watched 4 episodes so far and even though we're enjoying it, and will probably continue watching it, it doesn't seem like the type of series to binge (if you can call it that, guess that's the "binge for couples with a little kid").

We already watched all GoT seasons and will have to wait till next year for the last one.
She's not into the DCTV Universe, and either way i'm not into watching it all over again to get her up to date, watching stuff like Arrow S4 once was more than enough.
I've been trying to start watching The Wire (yeah, probably the biggest series i've never seen) with her, but for some reason we never did. Will definitely try this one again soon, it has just been sitting there for months.

I think this gives you an idea about what we like, what would you recommend us?

Alright so in the category switch your brain off: Brooklyn 99, currently watching those with my gf. I find it's a good show to relax.
British drama: The Fall; Gillian Anderson chasing a serial killer in Belfast.
Luther; Luther is a brilliant but emotionally impulsive detective who is tormented by the dark side of humanity while hunting down murderers. Played by Idris Elba.

In more typical us show from the past few years: Blindspot, Lucifer, Bosch or the 100 were easy watch.

IMO, Breaking Bad is the greatest television show of all time. Consistently brilliant from beginning to end.

I agree with the poster above about Rome, though it does drop off in quality during the second season.

Stranger Things, Handmaid's Tale, The Borgias, and Outlander are also favorites for my wife and I.

My GF started watching Outlander and described to me what it was about after two or three episodes. I decided to join her half way through an episode. About ten mins in I realised I was watching girl porn.
Good show.

Stick with The Leftovers. Season 1 can be a slog as it's unrelentingly tough, but it's worth it in the end. However, season 2 is undoubtedly one of the greatest seasons of TV ever. 3 doesn't quite hit 2s height, but it's still a fantastic wrap-up.

Rectify. At least the first season. I honestly didn't go beyond that so I can't comment on how it played out, but my understanding is maintained its form.

Halt & Catch Fire. It starts off a little uneven, but it pulls itself together towards the latter half of the first season and is another excellent Drama series.

Southland. Never really got the recognition it deserved as far as cop drama go, but a decent series that had some great performances.

Ozark. Came out on Netflix last year. Was given some rather unfavourable comparisons by critics to breaking bad, but it's a different beast in its own way and worth the watch. Also greenlit for a second season.

Dark on Netflix is great and so is Mindhunters.

I've head good things about Dark (it's on my to watch next list), and Mindhunters is excellent, though it doesn't get fully rolling until after the first episode.

Those are some fantastic shows. I can’t believe I forgot Halt & Catch Fire—a perfect show. It’s easily one of my top 3 shows.

Give Rectify another chance. The latter seasons are better than the first in my opinion.

I didn't bounce off it, it's just too many things, not enough Kad (it's on the list). :(

Once I manage to get my clone factory and brain memorization lab going all my gaming, film and TV backlog needs will be solved.

Agents of Shield, Blindspot, and Blacklist, are all amazing shows to watch with her I'd only assume you'd like it.

AoS of shield consistently last season reimagined their show with each story arc it threw the ratings through the roof on how well it was done. Same thing with this season. It's just insane how well they can come in and change everything up. The 2nd season was eh tho.

Wow, tons of suggestions, thanks a lot! :)

I'll definitely check them out, some were on my mental "to watch list", others had no idea they existed. But since we're in the middle of Leftovers S1, i'll keep pushing for us to watch at least the next 5 episodes.

Ones not mentioned:

Justified
Heart of Dixie
VEEP
Episodes
Bloodlines(last couple episodes are WTH but it still has many some great stuff for 3 seasons)

Thanks again everyone! :)

After reading all the suggestions, in the OP i forgot to mention that we already watched both seasons of Stranger Things and the 1st of Mr. Robot. She lost interest in the 2nd season and i haven't touched it again either... from what i've read S2 is kinda bad but S3 is good again, i'll keep it in the backlog.

I believe all are on Amazon Prime.

There was a show, I saw the first episode then it just kinda disappeared. Not in my on demand, don't remember the name. Thought it might be interesting. It was about a guy who was wrongly convicted, returns to his home town and what he has to go through even though he was really innocent.

The Magicians has been good. It feels like there was some thought put into all the witchcraft. It might not be for everyone, but I got a kick out of it.

I don't know why but rarely anyone ever suggests Person of Interest which imo is one of the best TV shows of the decade. It starts off as kind of a procedural so it's easy to dismiss but it becomes something completely different that stays in you forever. It has some of the most memorable characters, amazing action and unlike many great shows the last season is fucking excellent, maybe the best one.

Southland was pretty great, one thing that I always thought the show excelled on was it's gun fights. The sound design was almost Michael Mann tier and they were portrayed in a more realistic manner.

I love Carnivale but it's hard to recommend with how S2 ended the show lol. God that pissed me off so freaking much. Also the resolution to some plot threads will make you bonkers.
So your saying her soul is eternally trapped in a mine to get repeatedly raped by miners forever??!?? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME

I like Vikings, in some ways more than game of thrones.

Have you seen Lost? Also the new comedy Ghosted is really funny.

Its all I got op. I too didn't like black mirror. The wire is okay, slowly got through season one. My buddy swears by entourage. It seems okay, half way through season 1.

Noone saying Mr Robot tells me why this forum is dieded.
The first season was great for the most part, but the second got quite muddled and albeit the third has course corrected to some degree, the plot armour is really beginning to show and that's a concern going forward. I watch it (same I as I watch a lot of other shows), I just don't put it up there as a top-tier TV drama, which is what I figured the OP was looking for.
On a personal level, I thought Twin Peaks: The return was probably the most profound TV experience of last year, however, I wouldn't necessarily say it's for everyone unless they're invested in both the original series and Lynch's film work.

How did nobody mention The Expanse yet? Fantastic show with interesting characters and story.

Narcos is excellent as well, and Mindhunters has a few pacing issues but is overall a great show as well.

I'd get behind this. It's a decent series, especially given it tries to hold to the hard sci-fi nature of the source material (though admittedly that's a little handwavy in places). I just wish it had a bit more budget thrown its way Netflix style.

The Tunnel - all three series. One of the best crime dramas ever to be aired. Based on the original Swedish series “The Bridge” this is a must-watch.
81otGeN9MLL._SL1500_.jpg

Broadchurch - another brilliant crime drama starring the excellent Olivia Colman, David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker. Ignoring the obvious Dr. Who connection, they all play their roles so well, but Olivia steals the show for me.
David-Tennant-and-Olivia-Coleman-in-Broadchurch.jpg

Fortitude - some stunning photography in an eerie Arctic setting. Knicker-gripping psychological thriller starring the brilliant Michael Gambon. The second series stars Dennis Quaid which, at first, seemed an odd choice for this British/Euro production, but he plays the part well.
b5e48d9a8addcfd143de7fae53e34a9c.jpg

The Missing - Another cast of fine actors star in this thriller about a child abduction case followed by detective Julien Baptiste (Tchéky Karyo). Two series to watch and there is the promise of a third, fingers crossed.
1200x630bb.jpg

Shetland - a crime drama set and filmed in the beautiful wilds of Scotland. Douglas Henshall owns the part in the three series that are currently available. The fourth series is due to be aired next month.

....and for something light hearted

Doc Martin - an extremely well crafted comedy drama set in Cornwall about a surgeon that leaves his London life to become the GP in the tiny fishing village of PortWenn (filmed in and around Port Isaac). The show is so well written and so popular that it is now in it’s eighth series, and is still as charming as ever.

while I fucking loved this series, I'm not sure if I would recommend it. Problem is it's uncomplete and I'm not sure but wasn't there a cliffhanger at the end of the last season? Otherwise it's really great. I'm like 50 / 50 on this one. Watch it but dont :(

The flair and everything was amazong. So sad it didn't get a third (?) season.

Stranger Things
Star Trek Discovery
The Orville, really enjoyed this show

I have just watched all these recently and really enjoyed them all.

Mr. Grumpy

Grumpy see, Grumpy do.
I don't like very much on TV and now that Hannibal has finished, all I really have interest in are these two.

Hinterland

Patriot

I absolutely love the music in it too.

It's easily the best thing on TV at the moment for me.

A big warning there though, don't expect decent answers about the mystery. Focus on the characters and their stories and you'll remain happy, focus on the mystery and a big fat disappointment is waiting you at the end.

I've only been watching Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon recently, so ... is there any new must-see series airing right now? Preferably something scifi. Something serious.

I've fallen completely out of following US-tv shows. Anything else outside of Game of Thrones? ;o

How has The Night Of not been mentioned yet.

Easily the best tv series I've seen in the past year. I have it on hbo through Amazon Prime
