Esad Ribic's art on Thor: God of Thunder is something else.

^^ That last picture is just. Wow. The feel of it. Hard to describe other than synesthetically, and even then, saying it feels "blue" won't describe a thing lol, since that parts kind of obvious anyway.

The important thing to remember is the #1 purpose of comic book art is to tell a story. So for that reason, not all of the best stuff would even make sense as great art if panels or pages were presented out of context.

David Mack's work on kabuki is phenomenal. A thrue blending of art and storytelling though unconventional means

Also I'd need to find more J.H. Williams III batwoman splash pages

And we need some Dave McKeen sandman covers

You know I said about the awful halo comics Chettlar? Well look at this by the same artist:

Just goes to show what effort matters. Oh, and it makes me wonder how much the halo comics guy was paid. Cause see effort, she likes money. The money, it makes her feel alive, see.

The lack of One-Punch Man truly disturbs me.

Hmm. It's good, and the guy's really got something there, I think.

But idk. Not doing it for me. Doesn't really strike me as uniquely talented. Not that you have to be unique to be talented, or that I could do anything remotely as good, but hmm. There's something I like about it despite that though.

Stjepan Šejić and Marc Silvestri
When I saw that first panel, it took my damn breath away. (Heaven doesn't like it when the weapons of heaven and hell hook up.)

Was waiting for Preacher. :)

It really isn't.

It wouldn't be called by a name if it wasn't one established style. There had to have been a number of characteristics for all manga to share in order to be manga.

I'm not trying to imply that "ALL MANGA IS THE SAME!!1!!" because I know it isn't. But I really don't want it to fill this thread any more than other styles, because it's so common.

Just remember, if you want to post it, it needs to help be good "art" and can't exceed the other kinds of styles. I'm sure lots of manga is fantastic art, which is why I'm not trying to disallow it.

"Manga" is just the Japanese word for "comics". Outside of Japan, it's used as a shorthand for "Japanese comics". That's just it, really. It's not a style.
Similarly, in France, US comics are often called "comics" (the English word, that is). That doesn't tell you what it looks like, just where it's from.

I recently read through the whole Grant Morrison run on Batman and there were a couple amazing artists on there, most notably:

JH Williams III

He had amazing layouts, and was a style chameleon, drawing each character in the comic-style they most reflect.

and, my personal favorite by far, Frazer Irving

So dark and off-kilter, but every panel is a stunning work of art.

Just like comics are all called "comics", right? "Manga" is as much a style as "comic" is. But I'll try to post different styles for you.
