Here's the one and only dog I've had in my life (currently in the process of shedding, lol):

She is 14 years old.

I will be moving out on my own for the first time next month, and I've been debating a lot about getting a pet. Either or a cat or a dog since I like both. How hard is it for a single person who works 40+ hours a week to have a pet? I just feel it would add a lot to my dull life, but I worry about leaving it alone for that long each week.

Get a fish tank and wait 6 months before doing anything as big as a cat or dog

Here is Luna on the right with her father at 7 weeks

Poor Luna had to go inside

Those are pretty. I wonder how you get the fluffy Husky's like yours.
Most of the ones I see have short fur and they look kinda funny :s

Probably because of the climate here or some nonsense?

My family adopted a poodle from a no-kill rescue last week.

Her name was listed as 'Unique' (literally, Unique), but she does not respond to it. She was renamed Katie by us, and is starting to recognize it. She's 5, so she's a bit on the older side. She was a surrender; her old family was unable to continue taking care of her.

She's quiet and mostly well-behaved, but super alert and smart as anything. Katie doesn't take well to my mother leaving; she howled the one day she caught my mother leaving for work in the morning. She also acts a bit silly, and likes to roll around on the floor while gripping and pulling at the carpet.

(Apologies for the potato cam there.)

We meant to get her groomed the day we adopted her, but she had Kennel Cough, so we had to wait for the medicine she was on to make it go away before the groomers accepted her. Now, the cough is gone, and she was groomed today.

Dat smile. :)

As much as I hate to get a bit preachy, please, PLEASE consider adopting a shelter dog rather than buying a puppy from a store. At the shelter, I saw so many dogs and cats that just needed a good home so badly. I would have taken ALL of them if I could have. And while I got Katie from a no-kill rescue, way too many shelter dogs and cats are euthanized every day. I'll get off my soap box now.

When i was a kid, i won a goldfish in some street fair, and so did my little bro. I named mine dorothy and watched it swim around inside the plastic bag that was its universe. At home we put them in glass bowls on a shelf and fed them and watched them dart about. The very next morning i looked at my bros fish and it was upside down in the center of its bowl. For some reason i took this to mean his fish had died and so i flushed it down the toilet. He then flushed mine too. I cried.

I don't have any pets to show off

Rescued a cockatiel from a lady who was neglecting her birds yesterday.
There were 8+ (cockatiels, Conures and African greys) of them in a tiny living room abd her house was really fucking filthy (poop, food and dust EVERYWHERE), some of the birds had signs of feather plucking all over their bodies and she even had her front door open while her birds were outside of their cages....
taking him to the vet later today for a check up and I called animal abuse services a couple of minutes ago.

He seems to be doing pretty well so far. He's been very chatty this morning and he's been drinking and eating already as well.

Seriously considered taking all of them home with me but I wouldn't be able to take care of that many birds in my apartment either so figured giving this one a better home and calling animal abuse services was the least I could do.
Seriously, some people... fuck.

My 7 year old Jack Russel/Beagle mix, Lenny, LOVES to wrap himself up. He always steals my quilt and blanket off me when I'm lay on the couch chilling-out, so that he can cocoon himself nice and warm as I freeze.

The only time he's not doing that, is when he is in his bed and I am on my beanbag next to him. I think he just wants to do what I'm doing.

Awww!

I wish I could take care of dogs because I love them, but I have a couple of health problems so I can't guarantee that I'm able to take them out for walks every day.
Plus I already have two birds so It's just not a very good idea I guess.

New Akita puppy! Woo!

We got him two weeks ago, right after he turned 7 weeks old. A bit early, but he's doing incredibly well.

His name is Koji. He's going to be one hell of a handful.

And Koji "helping" with his first bag of food:

I hope to give him an incredible life. Someone already offered us $3000 for him while we were walking him yesterday. No sale. Already in puppy love..

Goooorgeous pup! Reminds me of my Malamute at a similar age.

Whelp, it's official. This lil' lady coming home with me in two weeks. She's at 5 weeks right now.

Mom feeding, she can only last about 5 minutes now with how big the puppies are.

Smooth-haired Border Collie bred for cow work. Her full sister (2 year old) just sold for $15,500.

Absolutely gorgeous. I've always had a thing for Akitas (and Huskies). Good luck! I know they can be a lot of work.

Some folks may remember my wife's thread a while back about a stray cat we found outside a restaurant and subsequently adopted. Here's how she looked the night we found her, when she was skin and bones;

Here she is now after a year and a half of indoor living and kibble. She got fat;

She's the dumbest, happiest cat ever. She'll sometimes sit behind me and meow until I pick her up like a baby, at which point she stretches her feet out and starts to purr and drool.
(and yeah, for some reason she has just a little patch of white hair.. um... down there.)
