GAF what are your thoughts about Capcom Arcade Stadium?

I started looking at this more recently since it will see release outside of Switch soon. 2 bucks per game, and they come with a bunch of extras, a cool UI that simulates old arcades, and I guess built-in cheats like 2x gameplay speed, invincibility, etc.

Then I watched this vid, and it looks like the extras cost....extra? So you buy a game for 2 bucks, then you pay extra for invincibility? Is that how this works?

Anyway, did anyone buy this on Switch? What are your experiences with it? Anybody going to be picking it up?

When you say "run like shit" do you mean framerate, load times, or some other metric?

Framerate was choppy, presumably due to the games being emulated in the RE Engine's front end, and certain games had sound issues. Real shame. What I said at the time of purchase:

Bad news guys. This is shit.

The games suffer randomly choppy performance, one instance of dropped frames cost me a life during the famous Strider mountain run. Also, the music channels are fucked on some games. I instantly noticed Bionic Commando's volume mix being incorrect resulting in the music being tuneless. I reset my Switch to make sure I wasn't having issues, and disabled data uploads within the game, but I got the same poor results.

On the plus side, the response time is excellent for retro games on modern platforms, the presentation is nice and all, and there's a great selection of games, but this is not a good way to play these classics.

Thanks for the info. I wonder how many of those problems are caused by Switch hardware. Sounds pretty bad honestly.

Got it on Switch and played a few games. Some great games on there but they can always dig deeper. Cyberbots was worth the purchase alone. Them Kinu Nishimura designs.

I'll get it when it comes to Steam (saw a listing for it there just yesterday).

Good selection of games (especially the CPS-2 ones), even if there are minor redundancies with existing packages; for example, the Street Fighter games are already in the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, Final Fight and several other beat em ups are already in the Beat Em Up Collection, etc.

I got it for Switch and enjoyed it so far. I've had zero issues with it. Im sure there are some performance issues but I honestly didn't even notice until reading about it online. The games are old and I guess I just didn't even notice some framerate or sound imperfections.

The main reason to get this is just for collectors in my opinion. The games are old and you won't be playing them countless hours. There are some great games in there, but also some not so great ones and some that feel like repeats. But I still get a kick out of backing out of a game, then browsing my 40 other arcade cabinets in the game. Its just a fun collection that I'm glad I got.

I'll probably get any new games they put out too. Its a large collection already.

Well there are oodles of old arcade games custom ported by M2, Hamster etc which run perfectly, which is what they should have done. I'm pretty sure it's a result of the RE Engine. I'd be surprised if Arcade Stadium performs better on other formats, but we'll see.

This is the only official way to buy Progear to my knowledge.
Its worth it for that 19xx and Gigawing alone imo.
Hopefully it runs better on stuff other than switch.

I think it was also part of that joystick-based monstrosity (Capcom Home Arcade, or whatever it was called...). Which may be out of stock, so you're still right that this collection is the only official way.

But yea, 19xx and Giga Wing are awesome. Especially the latter title, it'll be nice to get it for a fraction of the price that the Dreamcast version costs these days.

It is still incomplete. Capcom did say they were adding more games via DLC. Invincibility is separate dlc but i thought gaffers were game masters
and can finish any game with a no miss no damage 1cc clear :messenger_winking_tongue:
