I could always load up AnyTitleDeleter and see what I'm dealing with then.Starwolf_UK said:All Waninkoko's updater does is:
The 4.0 version: Download the system menu, Wii Shop channel, IOS60 and IOS61. It'll add the trucha bug to IOS60 and 61.
How that differs to an official update is the official update will run also through the IOS on the system and if there are newer versions of the IOS on Nintendo's Server it'll download and instal those (and there was a motherload for 4.0; pretty much every IOS released). This tends to cause a problem with some homebrew (Any title deleter comes to mind) due to a newer version of IOS36 being instaled which lacks trucha and ES_Identify bugs.
The 4.1 version: Download and instal the system menu...as that is the only thing that has been updated.
That's it. If you plan ahead there is no difference in either method. I'd go with the offical one though.
Due to how updates work if you really want/need/use the trucha bug just use WiiSCU, Dop-IOS or whatever before updating to system menus that use those IOS (why before? you don't play with the IOS used with the system menu* as without it the Wii is fairly dead). But still the classic advice stands, if you don't know why you're doing something; don't do it.
*-Currently (4.0,4.1) IOS60 (recent rule of thumb is x0 is System Menu and x1 is Wii shop)
As for channels. When you delete them through the Wii menu the ticket remains. You'ld have to use something like AnyTitle deleter to delete the ticket (but be extremely careful as the bold text says). You might have enough information to know what to delete though.
Feel the Swift said:I just wanted to make sure I wasn't breaking any rules. And I think I answered my own question. I've never actually used Waninkoko's uninstaller for WADs, I've only deleted them off my Wii. Anyways, I'm on 4.1 using Waninkoko's updater, which still has a trucha-signed bug if I am correct. And I never update directly through Nintendo so I can be sure I won't lose hombrew functionality. If there are still traces of those custom channels on my Wii I'll probably have to figure out how to remove those or hope Waninkoko knows what he's doing in future updates. D:
Well, since I already deleted them off my SD card I don't know if that would work now.Nabs said:i think it's best to use the manager to delete channels (same way you installed em). i haven't installed a channel forwarder in a really long time, i may start again once i install v14.
Homebrew does not work? Could you elaborate a bit? Does the HBC load at all? When you said downloaded games, did you mean from the Shop Channel or through backing up a Wii optical disc with the USB loader? No reason why updating once more to 4.0 should have done anything to your setup, assuming it is correct. The fact that shop channel games don't work makes no sense. Maybe your NAND is fucked?crazy monkey said:hello gaf, I am extreme noob at this. my cousin did some crazy shit on my wii. He did not use this guide, I don't know what he did.
It has backup luncher, usb loder, gc loder, on screen and home brew.Home brew is awesome I downloaded bunch of games there.
I updated to 4.0 i think again today. Home brew does not work , so what do I do?
Do I format the whole memory now and follow gaf home brew guide. Is there any way just to get my home brew back without doing crazy shit? Another thing does every save will transfer to my Sd card? thanks.

Thank goodness that guide seems to be one of the safer ones. It doesn't install cIOSCORP, so you should be fine to do the formatting thing. I suggest you upgrade to 4.1 online before you do it, but don't fret if you've already done it as you should still be safe.crazy monkey said:ok don't scare me. Download games from home brew, quake and hillium boy, free games are good.
Games from normal shop channel are working fine. Every thing else is perfect, accept home brew shows start and menu, I click on start it stops. I have to restart wii.
I don't have back up games yet so I don't know weather that works or not. I told him to do this so I can play ashes cricket 2009 from England. He said pal games you can run from this but I don't have the game yet.
If there is chance of serious side effect I am formatting memory, don't want to fuck up only console I have. :lol
edit2: what the fuck. Mario kart save you can not copy to sd card.
Edit: I asked him what method he used, he said wii soft modding for dummies.

I am reformatting memory don't want to take risk. I will again do it with Gaf method.

You can actually save off your 'untransferable' save games like MK Wii first. You need to use Savegame Manager. Either use the bannerbomb trick mentioned in the start of the HBC install in the GAF tutorial to load it, or reinstall HBC before formatting and run it that way.
Actually, the bannerbomb exploit can't be on your Wii. And what you need to do is reinstall the Homebrew Channel. The Homebrew Browser is a different tool. And yes, you don't need to format, but it would at least get rid of a lot of the useless stuff that's been installed on your Wii that you don't need.crazy monkey said:Hi,
Thanks for answering. I still have not done formatting. So from what I read , using that soft modding for dummies technique my wii is already moded. Everything else is working. I can run shop channel run games as usual. I deleted home brew channel before reading any thing else because I was too afraid of breaking my wii.
Now that I have little bit more knowledge,I only need to install home brew browser. So,I can follow gaf's home brew tutorial's first step? I already have banner bomb exploit on my wii. It is just home brew channel and browser i need to install.
Thanks.

You'll be fine. There are things you can do that would stop you from being able to buy VC games, but they are only going to happen if you install stupid stuff you clearly don't need (like System Menu skins). Just follow the tutorial and you won't have a problem.speedpop said:This has probably already been answered a billion times before, and I read through crazy monkey's posts and a hint was kinda there, but I'm still not sure and wondering one big thing.
Currently about to shove homebrew onto the Wii because I'm somewhat tired of having to wait for PAL games (never thought I'd catch myself saying that) and Nintendo of Australia are unreliable at best. Heck Punch Out just came out here, that's what we're talking about.
What I am concerned though is whether I can still access the VC channel or not so I can still buy old school games that come out now and then? i.e. I recently grabbed Majora's Mask and that came out a month or so ago. Last thing I want is have homebrew on the console but have to go through the trouble of removing it just so I can jump online to buy something silly like Mischief Makers.

I followed the NeoGAF tutorial with no issues and I only had one standard SD card. I just copied my NAND backup to my PC and then used the same SD card for all my homebrew. It is only 1 Gbyte too and everything fits with no issues.Ben2749 said:Also, how many SD cards will I need? It looks like I need to get an SDHC card, as I'm on one of the most recent firmware updates. I have a standard SD card as well. Will the two of those be enough?

HBC and be free!

The only thing that would affect your Wii at startup should be BootMii if you installed it as boot2. If you did install it, try renaming the bootmii directory on your SD card and see if that fixes your problem.Htown said:So I followed the guides on the Wiki, and everything seemed to install okay, but my Wii will not turn on if the SD card is inserted. It certainly is constantly updated. I updated it last night, for example! I would think the multiple references to 4.1 and the fact you can check the history to see when pages were last changed would be enoughBen2749 said:Forgive me for asking what might be an obvious question, but does this site, linked to in the OP, still have up-to-date installation instructions?
I once looked into installing Homebrew on my Wii elsewhere, but found that the old method that people used to use no longer worked.

Oh, and can I play US/Japanese Gamecube games on my PAL Wii using Homebrew?
Thanks.
crazy monkey said:This is correct. I spent horrifying two nights, thinking my wii would die any second. :lol
Now I enjoy quake and doom till my pal game comes.
edit: I as the other poster said was also worried about getting banned from downloading from shop channel in the future if I have HBC.
Easiest way to get it would be the Homebrew Browser, or install it from the Wiibrew page for it.Joey Fox said:Wait, you can play quake on wii? Where/How please.

Glad you worked it out (I was just about to reply when I saw the edit). Yeah, that was the wrong version of the installer.GameplayWhore said:[EDIT: I'm dumb. Okay my Wii does seem to boot after a minute, but it skips the bootmii screen, which actually came up the first time I used it. Now I just get a blank screen for a while and then the Wii starts up. (I'm not sure if it's just on a delay or if pressing reset does it, because it takes a while after the reset for the Wii menu to come up.) I am so totally confused.Clipper said:The only thing that would affect your Wii at startup should be BootMii if you installed it as boot2. It is strange that BootMii isn't running at startup, though. Perhaps it is working fine and your TV just can't handle the display picture. Before you change the BootMii folder, try pushing Reset after turning on the Wii and see if that makes your Wii boot.
A quick just for your info bit (you might be curious). Formatting the system memory deletes saves, channels, miis and the message board.GameplayWhore said:A web search suggests that the only way to fix this is to format the memory. I imagine that I'd lose my VC games, but I should be able to re-download them for free, right? I just converted my old "My Nintendo" account into a "Club Nintendo" account and registered my system (thought I did that a long time ago). Is there anything more that I need to do in order for me to get the VC titles back after wiping? (afterthought: duh, System Menu v4.1 will let me copy VC games to the SD card! Too bad it doesn't do the same for my Miis and Message Board entries!)
Simple solution: insert the disc forwards.the androgyne said:Can anyone help with this?
I'm on 4.1E and i have Preloader installed, with the Region Free Wii games hack enabled.
But, my JP Wii Sports Resort isn't recognized in disk channel - it comes up with that message as if the disc was inserted backwards.
Region free GCN games still work however..
Any ideas?

Seriously though, I don't know that much about Preloader. It might have something to do with the update on the disc, maybe. Not sure how you'd fix that, though. You could use Gecko OS to run the game.
Jocchan said:- install Wii Sports Resort as usual, no need for the alt dol method to play the game
Even if I play it from the disc the first time (forgot to mention that in my previous post)?Starchasing said:you only need the alt dol method the first time playing
I don't know how much this will help you, but it sounds similar to what I was going through. If you can ever get to the Wii menu again, try turning off the standby connection. If you've had your Wii hooked up with the standby connection on, the heat from the wifi/starlet chip is probably taking it's toll.Htown said:Okay my Wii does seem to boot after a minute, but it skips the bootmii screen, which actually came up the first time I used it. The LED flashes blue once, then nothing happens for like 30-60 seconds, then it comes on blue for a couple seconds longer and starts the Wii menu as normal. Removing the card makes it work normally, changing/removing the folder does nothing.Clipper said:What happens to the disc slot LED when you start the Wii? ...Anyone?Jocchan said:I have a HBC-equipped 3.2E console with cIOS rev9 (or rev10, can't remember, the one required to run USB Loader 1.1 back in April) and DVDX installed. No BootMii yet.
I think it's about time to catch up, so before I start I'd rather have confirmation if I'm going to do the right steps in the right order and I'm not missing anything (yup, I've read the wiki, I'd just want to be sure):
- install cIOS rev14 from the link in Clipper's wiki, no need to uninstall the version I currently have
- install BootMii on boot2 (by loading the HackMii installer via HBC), backup my NAND
- upgrade to firmware 4.1E via Nintendo's servers
- replace my old USB Loader with Configurable USB Loader
- install Wii Sports Resort (after playing it once from the disc to view the mandatory M+ movie) as usual, no need for the alt dol method to play the game
- enjoy!
Am I missing anything? Do I really need Hermes's stuff? Thanks in advance to whoever answers![]()
Were you replying to my post? Asking because my question had nothing to do with the movie in WSR, I was just asking confirmation about the steps to catch up with firmware/BootMii/cIOS/Configurable USB Loader/etc. being in the correct order and with nothing missing.Mejilan said:Why does it matter?
If watching the movie from the DVD didn't set the flag (and it should have), you can still watch the movie and set the flag by loading it once using the alt. .dol method.
No matter HOW you watch that silly movie and set the flag, you can proceed to play the game normally (sans alt. .dol method) without any issue.
Both ways of setting the flag work.

I haven't started yet, so I'm still in time to backup first and last. Thanks a lot for answeringClipper said:You managed to post about 5 minutes after I went to bed.
You've probably already gone through with it, but yes, your steps are good. Only thing I might consider doing differently is installing BootMii and making your backup first, and adding an extra step at the end to make another backup once you know everything's working.
You will only need Hermes' stuff if you want to play dual layer games (SSBB, MPT) or recent music games (GH5, etc.).
